From a corpus of representative works, we analyzed, with an integrative \u0000method, the writer’s essays in order to search in Nord perdu specially (one of her more \u0000autobiographical essays) the traces of the above-mentioned hyperawareness, often accompanied \u0000by literary multilingualism. The results of the study pointed out the existence of linguistic and \u0000cultural (strangeness) hyperawareness in Huston, and especially in the essay analyzed.

The symbolic interaction between the Client and the Dealer is analysed as a form of performative ritual deployed in the liminal non-place of supermodernity, where two strangers engage in a contest of characters with fatal consequences. Since neither of them can withdraw from the confrontation without suffering a slur to the sacredness of the face, a utilitarian compromise cannot be achieved. The struggle, carried out in a highly ritualized manner, leads to the breakdown of social ties and moral obligations.

In all kinds of writings, the forms of the old spelling coexisted with those of the new one; hence the orthographic variation inherent in the French of the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It can be seen, however, that, in printed texts, many authors opted for one rather than the other of the two graphic models. Starting from these premises, I analyse in this article the predominant orthographic uses in the main French-Spanish dictionaries published at the time.

Following a cognitive approach to metaphor, the present article seeks to analyze the conceptualization of COVID-19 disease in the speeches made by Emmanuel Macron, the French president, and Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish prime minister, between March and June 2020. The analysis reveals a network of conceptual metaphors which describe the virus as an animate being or a natural disaster, and action to stop its spread as a war. This metaphorical network has a threefold purpose : (1) to highlight the devastating effects of COVID-19 ; (2) to instil courage and hope ; and (3) to make appeals for union in order to contain the pandemic.
