Their biographies have been taken into account, regarding their specific social and historical contexts, with the objective of demonstrating these intellectuals’ intervention on behalf of Brazilian literature and culture. A brief survey of relevant texts regarding these Portuguese intellectuals’ contribution to the local culture was also conducted. Adolfo Casais Monteiro paved the way for the comparative work concerning Brazilian Modernism and Portuguese Modernism, which was further explored by Arnaldo Saraiva, with the objective of highlighting the dialogue between Brazilian and Portuguese modernist authors. This reception rarely presents the poet’s texts to the public and is characterized especially by critical essays that assume the Brazilian readers’ knowledge on the work of the Portuguese writer. During his lifetime (1888-1935), publications of Pessoa’s texts in Brazilian newspapers are even scarcer and still demand a concentrated effort from researchers given the difficulty of locating archives not available in digital media. Here we present the rediscovery of three texts by the poet, published during his lifetime, in the Carioca newspapers: Leitura para todos (1926), O Tico-tico: Jornal das criancas (1931), and Diario de Noticias (1935). Although in the past this main role was more timid, especially when it comes to black women, this presence today is quite expressive. Carolina Maria de Jesus, despite of prejudice and discrimination, is one of the many Afro-descendant writers who had achieved prominence in the literary medium. Through her writing, she showed the situation of poverty, misery and exclusion she suffered during her life. Thus, this article aims to analyze the work Diário de Bitita (Bitita’s Diary, 1986), focusing on aspects such as blackness and belonging. More specifically, we sought to understand how the racial issue and the idea of belonging are addressed in the referred work, in addition to discussing how the author dealt with these issues in her childhood and adolescence. Therefore, support was sought in the theoretical contributions of Cixous (2017), Fanon (2008), Hall (2005), among others. It was observed that Carolina Maria de Jesus uses her writing as an instrument to denounce the situation of poor and, especially of black people, in the face of a society dominated by an Eurocentric conception that privileges whites over blacks. Facing the prejudice, discrimination and exclusion experienced by Bitita, she often wished to have white skin to enjoy the same rights as white people.","PeriodicalId":40902,"journal":{"name":"Eixo e a Roda-Revista de Literatura Brasileira","volume":"29 1","pages":"244"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41899484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A partir da análise dessas traduções, comparadas a alguns poemas de ambas as poetas, pretende-se desenvolver a afirmação de Giorgio Agamben (2007) de que o poeta moderno elabora sua subjetividade sem deixar que esta fique marcada por um “lugar” ao qual ela devesse “retornar” em nome de uma originalidade primordial de sua palavra lírica. O sujeito decorrente desse processo está livre para viver esse momento presente no qual ele se encontra com sua incompletude e compreende que é feito de uma angústia analisável. Contemplar a linguagem é o modo de produzir subjetividades não essenciais. A tradução é um dos modos mais eficientes de se pensar a palavra. Sendo operada por deslocamentos incessantes, a prática da tradução é um interrogar-se sem cessar – e angustiadamente – pelo sentido da materialidade mesma da estrutura da palavra sem alcançar o sentido pleno do que é traduzido. A tradução faz surgir de um ato objetivo uma potência subjetiva, pois de seu vazio de conteúdo pode ser dito algo de novo.Palavras-chave: Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen; Cecília Meireles; poesia brasileira; poesia portuguesa; tradução.Abstract: The purpose of this reflection is to compare the writing practices of the two poets, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen and Cecília Meireles, with the translations they made of Hamlet, Shakespeare, Breyner in 1987, and Orlando, Virginia Woolf, by Meireles in 1948. From the analysis of these translations, compared to some poems of both poets, it is intended to develop Giorgio Agamben’s (2007) claim that the modern poets elaborate their subjectivity without allowing it to be marked by a “place” to which they owe “return” in the name of a primordial originality of their lyrical word. The subject resulting from this process is free to live in this present moment in which they find themselves with their incompleteness and understand that they are made of an analyzable anguish. Contemplating language is the way to produce non-essential subjectivities. Translation is one of the most efficient ways of thinking about the word. Being operated by incessant displacements, translating is to constantly interrogate and distress oneself for the meaning of the very materiality of the word structure without reaching the full meaning of what is translated. Nesse processo, de início, procura-se recuperar as correspondências inéditas enviadas ao poeta mineiro por José Osório de Oliveira, secretário da publicação e reconhecido homem de letras português dedicado à literatura brasileira. Em seguida, apresentam-se a estrutura, as particularidades e as diretrizes da política editorial do periódico, uma espécie de álbum luxuoso considerado o mais importante elo editorial do intercâmbio literário e intelectual pactuado pelas ditaduras de Salazar e Vargas a partir do Acordo Cultural de 1941. Por fim, examina-se o direcionamento interpretativo de ambos os poemas operado pelo suporte, quer no sentido de valorizar uma figura mítica da dita “civilização lusíada”, algo caro à proposta de recuperação interessada do passado efetuada pela revista, quer de circunscrever e atenuar o lirismo crítico do autor de Sentimento do mundo.Palavras-chave: Carlos Drummond de Andrade; José Osório de Oliveira; Atlântico: Revista Luso-Brasileira; Estado Novo brasileiro e português.Abstract: Considering two poems published by Carlos Drummond de Andrade in the Portuguese-Brazilian magazine Atlântico (“O voo sobre as igrejas” e “Versos à boca da noite”), this article aims to present the results of an investigation into the effects of meaning produced by such collaboration, considering the materiality of the publication in question and the discursive ambience impacting on those texts. Firstly, we seek to recover the unpublished letters sent to Drummond by José Osório de Oliveira, secretary of the publication and recognized Portuguese intellectual devoted to the Brazilian literature. Then, the structure and guidelines of the journal’s editorial policy are presented. More specifically, Atlântico was a kind of luxurious album which was considered the most important editorial link in the literary and intellectual exchange agreed upon by the Salazar and Vargas dictatorships since the signing of the Cultural Agreement in 1941. Finally, we examine the interpretative framework of both poems operated by the support, which, in the first text, values a mythical figure of the so-called “Portuguese civilization”, something dear to the magazine’s interested proposal to recover the past, and in the second it intends to circumscribe and attenuate the critical lyricism of the author of Sentimento do mundo.Keywords: Carlos Drummond de Andrade; José Osório de Oliveira; Atlântico: Revista Luso-Brasileira; Brazilian and Portuguese Estado Novo.","PeriodicalId":40902,"journal":{"name":"Eixo e a Roda-Revista de Literatura Brasileira","volume":"29 1","pages":"111"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44279467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Abstract: We aim, in this article, to demonstrate that the nostalgic affect is fundamental on the form/content construction of Graciliano Ramos’ novel called Anguish . In order to examine the edification of this feeling on this book, we have investigated how the form/content of Anguish constructs ontological tensions originated from the affects of deep sadness. In order to achieve this objective, we have used critical essays about this narrative, such as the ones written by Luis Bueno (2015), Rui Mourao (1971), Lucia Helena Carvalho (1983) etc, and studies that lay the historical foundation on the nostalgic affect, and its relations with the melancholy, via, especially, A tinta da melancholia (2015), by Jean Starobinski, A politica da nostalgia , by Marcos Piason Natali (2006) and “A potencia estetica da nostalgia”, by Andre Antonio Barbosa (2019). Our exegesis has showed that the figuration Luis da Silva’s sense of unbelonging, constructed through an incessant temporal movement of the speech, is not only the outcome of historical conflicts; it also derives from the representation of psychological conflicts, highly subjectives, powered by a major nostalgic feeling, building the tragical malaise of the protagonist.
