Su resistencia al cine, vinculada a su escritura autobiográfica, se revela como la imposibilidad de fetichizar la imagen en movimiento, que debe entonces ser reducida a lo fotográfico, definiendo así un sentido obtuso que opone lo fílmico al cine. Sin embargo, a través de la concepción del sentido suspendido, Barthes detectó el surgimiento de una modernidad cinematográfica que era capaz, precisamente, de superar ese límite; a saber, destruir la imagen-acción y su temporalidad sin detener el movimiento. La elección de obras de Buñuel, Bergman, Resnais, Pasolini y Antonioni configura una concepción del sentido suspendido vinculada a la suspensión de la temporalidad y el extrañamiento que prefiguran la imagen-tiempo deleuziana. Se trata de La barca (E.J. Huarag, 2007), La hora azul (A. Cueto, 2005) y Rosa Cuchillo (O. Colchado, 1997). Lejos de las pretensiones científicas de la historia, la literatura pone el foco en hechos en los que se manifiestan afectos. En el caso que nos ocupa, la cuestión de la violencia, tal y como es tratada en esas novelas, permite que se haga presente lo que está ausente a través de la figura del desaparecido. ¿Es posible hacer una novela de aquellos que no están? En este artículo se intenta pensar el acontecimiento de la desaparición y sus relaciones tanto con la violencia como con la producción de la subjetividad. Partearroyo","doi":"10.5209/esim.73025","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5209/esim.73025","url":null,"abstract":"This paper would like to analyse two films, The Elephant Man (David Lynch, 1981) and Blow up (Michelangelo Antonioni, 1966) and one classic myth, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, through the very poignant figure of the voyeur. We will investigate this observer of the unnamable focusing on two characters, two eyewitnesses: the scientist who discovers John Merrick and the photographer who becomes obsessed with finding a corpse in an amplified picture. Both these voyeurs seem to be in search of the bewitching and sublime darkness that lies within, a search that in a way is inaugurated by the Promethean doctor at the break of Modernity. The corporeal distance between monster and voyeur creates the unbearable morbidity that devours our gaze. And at that exact point, the figures are reversed and the voyeur becomes the actual monster. Soon enough, we discover that their perspective as voyeurs becomes ours, because through the cinematic experience the spectator becomes witness of the crime, part of the freak show, morbid viewer of the abject. Proposing to stay with the crisis, this essay starts from the centrality of care under the pandemic conditions. Radical despair and radical hope are the entry points for analyzing the terms orienting the response to the crisis. War and care have emerged as key terms mobilizing powerful imaginaries. The efficacy of martial propaganda based on war-talk with its ideology of death poses a threat. Care, in particular care feminism, rooted in the ontological vulnerability of life and the recognition of the interconnectedness of the ties that bind us, inspires possibilities to imagining care taking and healing as a way of continued living with an infected planet. The infected planet refers to the current pandemic and to the much older disease of colonial racist patriarchy. Care feminism counteracts capitalist destruction and toxic human exceptionalism.
