Then, how can imagetext works be studied, formed by photography and word? This article argues that fictional texts expose the semiotic nature of photographs, showing that photographs are signs, different from their referents. The fictional, intermedial texts studied here are John Heartfield’s, Bertolt Brecht’s, and W.G. Sebald’s: three authors linked by German history. Para esto, tomamos como guía de análisis la génesis y constitución de una estética del espectáculo que despliega y significa el mundo como mera representación de lo real. En un segundo momento, y con el concurso de Benjamin, Agamben y Heidegger, se hará patente la latencia del capitalismo como religión, dentro de la constelación de un capitalismo omniabarcante y tecnificado. Finalmente, mostraremos la modalidad en que la metafísica de la imagen, administrada por una técnica de operatividad determinada, deviene en un orden fundamental, representativo y estático de sentido. In this way, programmes and manifestos have reinforced the character of organisations and movements through their fundamental ideas. The artistic Avantgardes have thus used this literary resource to lay the theoretical foundations for their future artistic contributions, being able to justify without any qualifications their most extravagant occurrences. The Avant-garde manifesto shall therefore be considered a literary contribution written in the first place for the subsequent development of the artistic and creative activity of the group or school. The Surrealist Movement generated a lot of written work because the founders, André Breton, Louis Aragon, and Philippe Soupault, were writers. Some of these texts included the Movement’s two manifestos, periodicals such as Le Surréalisme au service de la révolution, Littérature, or Minotaure, and individual writings that were penned by Breton and Aragon. Nuestro punto de partida consiste en examinar el signo, en sus diferentes manifestaciones (concretamente, palabras e imágenes y sus combinaciones) y dimensiones (signo, significante, significado, referente), en sus relaciones con lo real, i.e., como apariencia y/o aparición de lo real, tal y como aparece en los textos de Barthes. En nuestra opinión, en su obra, es posible señalar cuatro líneas de trabajo (la crítica, la ciencia, la estética, la ética), vinculadas por el común denominador de la filosofía. Para ello, el presente ensayo se ha dividido en dos partes diferenciadas.
