During this period, there emerged outstanding translators represented by Gladys Yang and others. More specifically, it examines how the mixing of Arabic and English as codes, and the use of visuals and colors, are techniques that aim to enhance the sales market. The theory of Multimodality [1], as well as Linguistic Landscape [2] are used to analyze a number of real estate double billboards that are displayed in two Egyptian main routes, namely Cairo Ring Road and the Egyptian North Coast highway. Results of this research would add to the body of research in the area of multimodality and linguistic landscape. {"title":"An Interdisciplinary Study of Different Pragmatic “We” in Academic Discourse: A Case Study of Linguistics and Economics","authors":"Ya-mei Zhou, Yi Zhang","doi":"10.18178/ijlll.2022.8.4.360","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18178/ijlll.2022.8.4.360","url":null,"abstract":"Based on Systematic Functional Grammar and Hyland’s pragmatic classification of “we”, with the help of AntConc and Log-likelihood and Chi-square Calculator 1.0, the present study combines qualitative and quantitative research designs to compare and analyze the similarities and differences of different pragmatic functions of “we” in Linguistic and Economic academic discourse. The result shows that there are significant differences in the use of “we” between the academic discourse of the two disciplines (P < 0.001). In addition to the most frequently used pragmatic function of “we,” the other four functions are more frequently used in the academic discourse of Linguistics. {"title":"Using Gamification to Support Learning Chinese as A Foreign Language: A Systematic Review","authors":"Yuetong Yu","doi":"10.18178/ijlll.2022.8.4.371","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18178/ijlll.2022.8.4.371","url":null,"abstract":"Gamification has been proposed as a pleasant and entertaining way to encourage students to acquire Chinese as a foreign language (CFL) and to bridge the gap between their learning and teaching practice. This systematic review provides a summary of the current state of the art in CFL gamification. Furthermore, when learners cope with CFL through gamification, this review study maps their learning process and results. 11 publications from 2016 to 2021 were analyzed for this systematic review. Even though these studies found that gamification had a favorable impact on learners' learning experiences and achievements, none of the studies identified gamification elements linked with the learning experiences and outcomes. Gamified CFL offers good learning experiences by being engaging, fun, motivating, engaging, and interesting. Gamified CFL learning results included content language acquisition, beliefs, motivation, satisfaction, and confidence. This study conducts a translation criticism on English Translation of TCM terms selected from Classified Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine from the perspective of China English under the guidance of Coordination Theory of Translation, that is, translators are required to coordinate all aspects and relationships in translation to the greatest extent. The key issues to be resolved in this study are as follows: 1) What are the word-formation methods of China English in the translation of TCM terms? 2) How should English translations of TCM terms in Classified Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine be evaluated? 3) What strategies, methods, and techniques should be adopted in English translation of TCM terms? Through the translation criticism of typical cases, conclusions are made as follows: firstly, domestication and foreignization strategies should be used together in a coordinated way on translation of TCM terms; secondly, as for terms whose corresponding expressions cannot be found in Western medicine, the translator should coordinate the use of various translation methods and techniques, such as literal translation plus free translation, transliteration with annotation, and literal translation with annotation. The author of the comic uses a modernist writer's imagery to create – both in the graphics and the text – a platform for communication with her own father, Bruce. Thus, the mediated language of metonymy, the figures of Thanatos, Eros, floral motifs, become one of the ways of representing homosexual love. The paper reviews the history of the translation on Chinese culture by reviewing the Chinese and western translators’ C-E translation which is mainly on classical books. It also overviews the status quo of CCT by analyzing its development, achievements, and national policies since the reform and opening up policy (ROP). The paper explores five potential directions for TCC: classical books, world-class and regional intangible cultural heritage, communist party culture and education.
