The emphasis is on the texts published in a section of the magazine entitled \"Confluencias\", in which a set of texts on the Cuban literary canon was published. The objective is to analyze the writing strategies, the intertextual relationships, and the areas of confluence, thus outlining his politics of writing in the magazine. In this sense, we propose the idea of \"deviation\" to understand an important strategy and outline of his writing in the magazine and, in general, of an important area (and less studied) of his work: the literary criticism.","PeriodicalId":40660,"journal":{"name":"Catedral Tomada-Revista de Critica Literaria Latinoamericana-Journal of Latin American Literary Criticism","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88277396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our hypothesis is that the prolific series that makes up the urban cycle in Aira’s work, identified almost exclusively with the Flores cycle, is actually inaugurated with this novel. Although La luz argentina tells a story of interiors in which the city appears mostly indirectly, the characters’ refuge of intimacy does not constitute a hermetic and impermeable space but, on the contrary, is haunted by the outside. Thus, the city imposes its ghostly presence even in domestic life and not only through the nocturnal excursions of the characters.","PeriodicalId":40660,"journal":{"name":"Catedral Tomada-Revista de Critica Literaria Latinoamericana-Journal of Latin American Literary Criticism","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85697741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These novels start from the premise that print has been profoundly affected by the digital revolution. In the first part of the article, I develop a theoretical model to understand the effect of digital on print based on the concepts of remediation, materiality, and practices of print culture. I propose that the digital revolution produced a liberation and tension in the printed culture that the four novels I study reflect, and they do so from the questioning of the functions that print has historically had. Facsímil (2014), El sistema del tacto (2018), Scout and Leñador, are novels aware of their status as a physical object, and therefore use their materiality to reflect, intervene and comment on the role printed book plays in the contemporary world. The article seeks to show that printed culture in Chile is in a moment of paradigmatic change and that literature is an exceptional starting point to understand it.","PeriodicalId":40660,"journal":{"name":"Catedral Tomada-Revista de Critica Literaria Latinoamericana-Journal of Latin American Literary Criticism","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76688113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The notion of martyrdom is assimilated in the literary works as a sign and a myth to depict the disproportion of violence under the frame of the bipartisan conflict. In the fictions martyrdom is implemented as a narrative device and an artefact to revisit the past and reflect on the nation. By adopting postmodernist readings in fields such as ‘biopolitics’, cultural sociology, and concepts like ‘culture hybridity’ proposed by Homi Bhabha, we find that disfigurations of original Christian myths take place in the fictions with a subversive purpose. Although modern martyrdom is rooted in Christianity, the phenomenon erases the borders between politics and religion, given that its secularization is manifested through social movements and the cultural construction that rises around the martyr. Nowadays, ‘el 9 de abril’ not only commemorates the magnicide, but it has established itself as a National Civic Day to pay homage to all the victims of the armed conflict. While literary criticism has focused on anthropocentric aspects of these novels, a geological analysis considers other factors within their narratives (non-human agency, materiality of bodies, and accumulation processes). I argue that reading these novels from this materialist perspective enables us to highlight substantial narrative elements in oil fiction that other readings have not adequately addressed, which has led to the literary devaluation of these petrofictions.","PeriodicalId":40660,"journal":{"name":"Catedral Tomada-Revista de Critica Literaria Latinoamericana-Journal of Latin American Literary Criticism","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82178268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The text seems representative of the author’s meta-literary concerns, among which stands out the conflict between the language as a tool and the non-communicable nature of the reality. The psychoanalytic analysis of the discourse given by the subject of the statement reveals, as Kristeva argues, a desire to transcend the narrow limits of the symbolic sphere and to open an alternative literary space closer to the embodiment and its drives.","PeriodicalId":40660,"journal":{"name":"Catedral Tomada-Revista de Critica Literaria Latinoamericana-Journal of Latin American Literary Criticism","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82322757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
