In as much as the act meant to streamline the practice of Traditional Medicine in Ghana, it further inadvertently created a lacuna in the profession of complementary and alternative medicine. Due to this, policymakers found the need to repeal Act 575 to pave way for new legislation. This led to the drafting of the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Bill 2014 in Ghana. The bill has however been left hanging with no direction, to the best of the authors’ knowledge. It is currently unclear, whether policymakers or political actors are with or against the Complementary and Alternative Medicine fraternity in Ghana. In this regard, this paper presents a critical appraisal and document analysis of this important Bill drafted in 2014, in a bid to highlight the need for Ghanaian policymakers to pass this bill into fruition, to advance the course of complementary and alternative Medicine in Ghana.","PeriodicalId":404560,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asian Journal of Health Professional","volume":"32 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121012183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, lot of remedies are tried to colour the affected part of scalp. Use of measures to colour hair or use of medications to change the grey hair to black is only a temporary phenomenon which may not last long as the melanin a pigment which imparts colour to hair is gradually decreased. Men have greying much faster than women. Thyroid hormones [triiodothyronine (T3) and tetraiodothyronine (T4)] and the central neuroendocrine regulator of the hypothalamic–pituitary–thyroid (HPT) axis, thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), which is produced within human scalp stimulate melanin production. Thus, both in hypo and hyperthyroid state greying can occur. This is also altered in Postmenopausal changes include decreased anagen hairs in the frontal scalp, lower growth rates. The preferred action is to have balanced diet, adequate vitamins, avoiding excessive exposure to sun and lubrication of hair regularly with any oil.","PeriodicalId":404560,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asian Journal of Health Professional","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126957636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, Dental professionals act as the first line of defence towards finding the right solution. A clear understanding of the prevalence of smoking among dental students is necessary in order to understand the attitudes and perspective of such a young adult studying in a dental college. The aim of this study is to analyse the smoking habits among students of dental colleges and try to gauge a deeper knowledge about their outlook. The present study was conducted through a survey-based questionnaire prepares on Google Forms to assess the prevalence of smoking, knowledge and attitudes about the habit of a group of 150 dental college students ranging from first year to internship. Survey data was first collated in Microsoft Excel, and thereafter analysed using statistical methods such as Pivot Table Technique, Subtotal Formula, Ratio Analysis, averages, weighted percentages and mean calculations. It was concluded that a need for a smoke- free campus, stricter restrictions against smoking in campus and counselling for the users of cigarettes is necessitated.","PeriodicalId":404560,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asian Journal of Health Professional","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124435922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ovarian torsion during pregnancy carries significant risk to pregnant woman and intrauterine fetus. Diagnosing ovarian torsion during pregnancy can be challenging as most frequently ,patients present with abdominal pain and non specific symptoms. If the diagnosis of ovarian torsion is missed, it can lead to ovarian necrosis and sepsis with subsequent loss of ovarian and tubal function. This condition not only threatens the pregnancy but also has great implications for future fertility. A 26year-old G2P1L1 at 5 weeks gestational age presented to us with right sided lower abdominal abdominal pain radiating to back, burning micturation, and low grade fever. Ultrasound showed an enlarged edematous enlarged right ovary with two hemorrhagic cysts with absent flow on color Doppler. The patient underwent emergency laparoscopic surgery, during which the necrotic adnexa was removed. She was placed on progesterone therapy postoperatively and eventually delivered a healthy baby at term. Ovarian torsion though is extremely rare problem in pregnancy, it should be taken into consideration in differential diagnosis of abdominal pain.","PeriodicalId":404560,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asian Journal of Health Professional","volume":"10073 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121096634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This in turn reduces cost of care, increased availability of beds for sick patients, lower risk of resistant bacterial strain transmission and faster return to work and social activities., This study was aimed to find out the effective low dose of 1% chloroprocaine for lower limb ambulatory surgeries performed as day care procedures. 93 consented patients were randomized to three groups of 31 each to receive 20 mg, 25 mg and 30mg of 1%chloroprocineintrathecally. Sensory and motor block was assessed.: The collected data was analysed using IBM.SPSS statistics23.0 Version.The demographic data in all three groups were comparable. The onset of motor blockade was profound in patients receiving 30 mg of chloroprocaine compared to 20 or 25 mg. The blook persisted for longer duration with delayed voiding of urine, delay in unassisted ambulation inpatients receiving 30 mg of 1% chloroprocaine.","PeriodicalId":404560,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asian Journal of Health Professional","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128959156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Trigeminal nerve possesses both the components i.e. mixed components as well as sensitive components that’s why trigeminal nerve is known as a mixed nerve. The sensitive component of the trigeminal nerve takes up the sensation from most of the part of the face and the mucous membrane to the central nervous system and that’s why it is responsible for the disease which is known as trigeminal neuralgia. The characteristic feature of the trigeminal neuralgia is the sudden onset of pain which is sharp and lacerating, and that may last from few of the seconds to few minutes. Trigeminal neuralgia more frequently affects the female as compared to the male.","PeriodicalId":404560,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asian Journal of Health Professional","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116772167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Asia accounts for nearly half of global green house gas emissions (GHGEs). It is predicted that by 2050, a large number of regions in Asia will be exposed to deadly levels of GHGEs. It is now time that we recognize the environmental impacts of type and amount of food we eat considering the planet and our health. It is crucial to address these issues because a growing body of scientific evidence suggests that our dietary habits are putting a lot of strain on the environment. Encountering the recent trends of overconsumption of discretionary foods (foods and beverages not required to provide nutrients the body needs) is key to aligning human and planetary health. Although the undesirable health effects of discretionary foods are an increased risk of obesity and chronic diseases, the environmental and broader sustainability impacts of these food products requires more attention, especially since their dietary consumption has been increasing greatly in recent decades, particularly amongst low income groups.Therefore, transition to more sustainable food choices, dietary patterns, and sustainable diets is required to strengthen global efforts to save and decarbonise our planet earth. Adapting to dietary change would require a combination of factors together with nutritional assistance and expertise of the dietetic professionals and lowering the cost price of climate friendly foods through policies with government and local authorities to enable their affordability and accessibility to the people.","PeriodicalId":404560,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asian Journal of Health Professional","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121984994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
