Esta contribucion analiza primero los distintos problemas que presenta la edicion de Lang, caracterizada sobre todo por las abundantes interpolaciones que el editor detecto a partir de criterios discutibles. Tras discutir la viabilidad de rescatar, como pretendia Lang, las ipsissima verba de Cornuto, se presentan los materiales en los que se ha de basar cualquier nueva edicion critica del Compendio. En este punto se asume la estematica de los manuscritos propuesta por Krafft en 1975. Despues se proponen ciertas decisiones criticas que el nuevo editor de Cornuto debera adoptar en relacion con la forma linguistica del texto transmitido. Asimismo se explica la politica de conjeturas que se seguira al objeto de enmendar aquellos lugares en los que la literalidad de la paradosis parece corrupta.","PeriodicalId":40285,"journal":{"name":"Aitia-Regards sur la Culture Hellenistique au XXIe Siecle","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80966385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This representation included clearly distinct and separated categories of workers and a specific status of the worker in the oikos and in society. However, as this epigrammatist reshapes literary traditions by representing humble characters as a class of individuals, he creates a new representation of a community of workers. This paper will focus on two aspects of this representation, which are distinct from their Homeric model but allow the epigrammatist to allude to it: the presence in Leonidas of allusions to networks of persons who practise the same profession and the fact these networks are part of a larger community of workers, which transcends traditional, professional and/or gender boundaries.","PeriodicalId":40285,"journal":{"name":"Aitia-Regards sur la Culture Hellenistique au XXIe Siecle","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84682660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ramelli","doi":"10.4000/AITIA.2882","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4000/AITIA.2882","url":null,"abstract":"The Roman Stoic Cornutus, who lived in the age of Nero, is the heir of an ancient and rich Stoic allegorical tradition applied to all aspects of traditional religion: literary myths, cultic epithets and attributes, and even iconographical representations of deities. Allegoresis (allegorical exegesis) was applied in antiquity to culturally and religiously authoritative texts. It was mainly practiced by “pagan” philosophers like Stoics and Middle and Neoplatonists and by philosophically minded Hellenistic Jewish and Christian exegetes, who read Scripture allegorically.Cornutus offers an excellent example of mythological allegoresis in his handbook of Greek theology. For each divinity, from Ouranos to Hades, Cornutus provides an allegorico-etymological interpretation of its names and epithets, its attributes, aspects of its myths and rituals, etc. Physical allegory (Zeus represents the ether, Hera the air, etc.) is prevalent, although there are also examples of ethical and historical exegeses. Special attention is demanded by Cornutus’ programmatic assertion—analysed below—that “The ancients were not people of no account, but they were also able to understand the nature of the cosmos and had the ability to philosophise on it by means of symbols and enigmata” (35). The ancient were nothing less than philosophers, since they were endowed with the understanding of the cosmos, of what exists. What they expressed allegorically are philosophical truths. Philosophical allegoresis interprets their expressions and finds philosophical tenets therein. Cornutus was strongly influenced by Chrysippus, Apollodorus of Athens, and Crates of Mallus, while Seneca, who was a Stoic but no allegorist, probably polemicised with Cornutus.Stoic allegoresis, as practiced by the Stoics Cornutus and Chaeremon roughly at the same time, later influenced not only the so-called Middle Platonists, but also the Christian Platonist Origen. Origen seems to have applied allegoresis not only to the Bible, like Philo and Clement before him, but also to Plato’s dialogues and myths. All these allegorisers aimed at finding deeper meanings and philosophical truths in traditional accounts, thereby rescuing them from accusations of superficiality or impiety. The goal was to find in ancient poets and other expressions of traditional religion, as well as in Scripture, meanings “worthy of the divine.” Remarkable structural similarities between the Stoic allegorical tradition inherited by Cornutus and Origen’s allegoresis will be pointed out.","PeriodicalId":40285,"journal":{"name":"Aitia-Regards sur la Culture Hellenistique au XXIe Siecle","volume":"53 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73420960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Questa impresa e stata affrontata, in modo parziale, da K. Reinhardt e, in forma completa, da B. Schmidt, con i mezzi dell’epoca. Il risultato era che il Πeρὶ θeῶν di Apollodoro di Atene doveva essere la fonte principale – anche se non unica.Oggi possiamo fare un nuovo tentativo, anche per verificare il ruolo di Apollodoro, grazie a una migliore conoscenza della tradizione filologica alessandrina, in particolare del metodo di Aristarco e dello stesso Apollodoro nella esegesi e interpretazione dei testi letterari. Questo permette di andare oltre il semplice confronto di Cornuto con i frammenti apollodorei, peraltro gia fatto da Reinhardt e Schmidt. Altri criteri utilizzabili sono la coerenza interna della trattazione cornutea e la presenza di Omero, autore-guida di Apollodoro. Un confronto sui contenuti tra la struttura del Πeρὶ θeῶν di Apollodoro e il manuale cornuteo e utile alla comprensione di entrambi : il trattato del grammatico vuole descrivere il cosmo di Zeus ; non viene data una particolare attenzione ne a una dottrina cosmogonica o a quella sugli elementi. I capitoli della Epidrome che sono confrontabili con l’opera apollodorea vanno dal 9 al 35 – da cui pero devono essere tolti quelli provenienti dalle altre fonti.Altri stimoli possono venire confrontando Cornuto con un testo bizantino, gia notato da Reinhardt, che sono le Allegorie alla Teogonia di Esiodo di Giovanni Galeno. Questo testo merita di essere rivalutato : a prescindere da alcune aggiunte cristiane (dello stesso Galeno) e neoplatoniche, e ovviamente una generale riscrittura, esso preserva molto bene un dotto commentario ellenistico al poema di Esiodo, di tendenza stoica, che per lo piu interpreta la Teogonia in modo fisico, in particolare meteorologico ; termini post quem sono Apollodoro e Posidonio. Dal momento che questo testo non e molto conosciuto, viene data una descrizione.Nella Epidrome percepiamo la autorita del Πeρὶ θeῶν di Apollodoro e della Μeτeωρολογικὴ στοιχeίωσις di Posidonio, sia in forma diretta sia in forma indiretta : Apollodoro nel commentario stoico a Esiodo, in Cornuto e nel trattato ps.aristotelico De mundo ; Posidonio nel commentario stoico e sia nel De mundo che in Cornuto (gli epiteti di Zeus). Cio si accorda molto bene con lo sfondo culturale del I sec. d.C.","PeriodicalId":40285,"journal":{"name":"Aitia-Regards sur la Culture Hellenistique au XXIe Siecle","volume":"6 3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78490183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some fragments of these work(s) are still accessible today. Thus some scholars based their attempts to give a general evaluation of Cornutus as a philologist on them. As it is obvious that the late ancient commentaries saved more fragments written by Cornutus without mentioning his name, in this study I am trying to associate a greater number of the fragments to Cornutus’ lost work(s) on Vergil, and to re-evaluate the Stoic philosopher as a literary critic.","PeriodicalId":40285,"journal":{"name":"Aitia-Regards sur la Culture Hellenistique au XXIe Siecle","volume":"2009 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82601976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
