La sua esegesi allegorica non si applica quindi direttamente ai testi poetici, che, sebbene non possano essere ignorati come testimoni, hanno corrotto l’antica tradizione sapienziale con aggiunte e cambiamenti arbitrari. La sua interpretazione del mito delle Charites (capp. 15-16) ha un corrispondente in Seneca, Ben., I, 3, 2 - 4, 6. Quest’ultimo polemizza con l’interpretazione data da Crisippo e in parte ripresa da Ecatone. I contatti con Cornuto dimostrano che quest’ultimo si rifaceva proprio a Crisippo. Ma mentre per Cornuto la poesia, pur avendo alterato arbitrariamente il mito, conteneva ancora qualche traccia della verita primigenia, Seneca, pur non escludendo che contenuti di verita si trovassero nel mito originario, rifiuta totalmente questo approccio ermeneutico, perche i poeti e gli artisti si preoccupano esclusivamente delle loro finalita estetiche.","PeriodicalId":40285,"journal":{"name":"Aitia-Regards sur la Culture Hellenistique au XXIe Siecle","volume":"354 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73958518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lightfoot","doi":"10.4000/AITIA.2156","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4000/AITIA.2156","url":null,"abstract":"The essay considers the affiliations of Callimachus’ second Hymn with the paean. Formal features are important in the reworking of the genre, as is to be expected from a composition by a Hellenistic poet, but Callimachus has also remained faithful to what we can discern of its wider associations, broad as these were. This can be seen in the concern with the identities of deity (Carneian Apollo), worshippers (a group of young men on the verge of maturity), and community (the historical foundation of Cyrene). But while Hymn 2 seems to retain much of the sensibility of the paean (as evidenced by Pindar, Pythian 5 as well as the paeans proper), it is hard to find any such fidelity to a recognisable archaic genre in either of the other so-called “mimetic” hymns; the use of a single label diverts attention from the very different ways in which Callimachean “mimesis” works. Given these differences, it is worth enquiring further into the, presumably authorial, arrangement of the collection as a whole.","PeriodicalId":40285,"journal":{"name":"Aitia-Regards sur la Culture Hellenistique au XXIe Siecle","volume":"104 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76126668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sbardella","doi":"10.4000/AITIA.2247","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4000/AITIA.2247","url":null,"abstract":"The present discussion reconsiders Hermesianax Leontion fr. 7.35–46 Powell (3.35–46 Lightfoot) as offering a synthesis and aesthetic evaluation of the tradition of Colophonian elegy from the archaic to the Hellenistic period. It is argued that the terminology employed in this passage makes a clear distinction between Hermesianax’ two great predecessors, Mimnermus and Antimachus, by implying that the former composed elegy for sung execution with the accompaniment of the aulos, whereas the latter probably intended his poetry either for chanting recitative performance with accompaniment (parakataloge) or for purely recitative performance without accompaniment. In the early Hellenistic age, Hermesianax, with his Leontion, made an effort to revive sympotic elegy in its original aulodic form, as practised by Mimnermus, and to reconcile it with the rhapsodic form of an extended, thematically coherent elegiac composition modelled on Antimachus’ Lyde. A similar attempt to recreate sympotic elegy was made by Hermesianax’ contemporary and acquaintance Philitas of Cos in the Paignia, as can be inferred from a short fragment of Philitas (fr. 15 Lightfoot = 18 Sbardella = 20 Spanoudakis) and from a new reading of the passage of Hermesianax devoted to him.","PeriodicalId":40285,"journal":{"name":"Aitia-Regards sur la Culture Hellenistique au XXIe Siecle","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79315682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hutchinson","doi":"10.4000/AITIA.2002","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4000/AITIA.2002","url":null,"abstract":"Lyric after Pindar should be seen not as declining and petering out, but as developing in ways which radically question or play with the fundamentals of the genre (or “super-genre”). The stanza is a crucial feature of lyric up to Pindar, especially when seen textually; “modernist” expansion into huge astrophic entities (Timotheus, etc.) and “postmodern” reduction into stichic lines (Callimachus, etc.) both involve radical rethinking of the super-genre, and one is a reaction to the other. However, the most innovative postmodernists are the poets somewhat earlier than Callimachus and Theocritus (Simmias, Philicus, etc.); Callimachus and Theocritus continue their ideas with new twists and new point. And the stanza is not really dead: within Timotheus’ and Callimachus’ poems stanza-like structures are built up. The late-classical and Hellenistic development of lyric is as dynamic and thought-provoking as that of sculpture.","PeriodicalId":40285,"journal":{"name":"Aitia-Regards sur la Culture Hellenistique au XXIe Siecle","volume":"64 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75327907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
