In turn, this produces two types of mismatches: some departments/colleges have faculty they do not want; and some faculty would much prefer to relocate to another department/college. These mismatches are not without costs for professors and departments/colleges. Without abolishing or diluting tenure, colleges can alleviate these inefficiencies by initiating reforms to recreate markets for tenured faculty. This can be accomplished by establishing computerized job ex-changes that allow departments/colleges to engage in mutually beneficial trades – within and across disciplines and across colleges – of tenured professors who are currently mismatched.","PeriodicalId":398942,"journal":{"name":"Social Sciences eJournal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125894469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Secondary data was collected from the Budget Office of the Federation, Office of the Accountant- General of the Federation, National Bureau of Statistic and United Nation Development Programme and analyzed with the use of statistical package for social science (SPSS) and t-test to test the significant difference in independent and dependent variables. The empirical findings revealed among other things, that GIFMIS have impacted positively on Nigeria’s economic development. It was concluded from the study that GIFMIS adopted by Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has impacted positively on its economic development through the budgeting and budgetary system, payroll management system, cash management reforms, expenditure ceiling for MDA’s in Nigeria within the time under review. The study recommends, among others, that the government should strengthen GIFMIS module and cover other area of interest in the national budget to achieve more on human capital development, investment in critical infrastructures, gross domestic product, and per capita income. The savings of over N126 billion from the implementation of GIFMIS could be channeled to human capital development like education, health etc or investment in critical infrastructure like roads, port etc or diversify the economy. Therefore GIFMIS is a good platform and effective and efficient strategy in the management of government finances. It reduces incidences of government borrowing, provides holistic financial information and minimizes fraud in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":398942,"journal":{"name":"Social Sciences eJournal","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124771396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Individual firms, industries and nations began to assess their global competitiveness as a strategy for survival and growth. Competitiveness at the level of the firm may be defined as the ability of a firm to survive and grow, in the light of competition from other firms. Companies all over the world seek to gain advantage over their competitors because of pressure and challenge. The presence of strong domestic rivals, aggressive local suppliers and demanding customers foster competitive advantage on those companies that meet the challenges through innovation. In this paper, the emphasis is on the competitiveness of national industries with the aluminium industry in Ghana as the focus. Using the “diamond of national advantage” established by Porter (1990), it is found that Ghana’s aluminium industry has a competitive advantage in the aluminium processing sector but has only limited competitive advantage in the bauxite mining and primary aluminium sectors of the industry. It is recommended that the full integration of the aluminium industry through the construction of an alumina refinery be made. The aluminium industry in Ghana holds a considerable potential in contributing to the transformation of the basically agrarian economy into an industrial one. This will enhance the achievement of Ghana’s goal of becoming a middle income country by the year 2015.<br>","PeriodicalId":398942,"journal":{"name":"Social Sciences eJournal","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129008919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
