Understanding and experimenting on how technology fits into the complex realities of classrooms has resulted in significant shifts in learning trends towards a more web based environment as opposed to the previous general teacher-student environment. The education sector in Saudi Arabia has seen massive progress in the past decades with specific efforts put into educating the female population to empower women. Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (PMU), a newly established not-for-profit university licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education, having a campus specifically dedicated to female students has been chosen for case study. This research is an attempt to understand the benefits and challenges of implementing hybrid e-learning and web 2.0 application based environment to educate female students. Results of the investigation prove that introducing such learning environments can have significant impacts on improvement of students' evaluation process, research capabilities, and communication skills. Finally, we show how this technology can also yield similar successful results in other countries and other institutes.","PeriodicalId":398065,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Education and e-Learning Innovations","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121755416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The extensive use of technology in learning makes its use inevitable in the assessment process. Although, a lot of software packages exist in the market, it is difficult to adapt them according to a certain educational system. In this paper we present the characteristics of the new model of e-testing system that we have designed and developed. This system is implemented and is used for testing by several schools of our country. Before applying the new system, students were tested in a classical way. We have gathered and compared the classical testing results and those from using e-testing tool for assessment of student knowledge. As a conclusion, the success of the students tested electronically is much higher comparing with the success of students tested classically.","PeriodicalId":398065,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Education and e-Learning Innovations","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126264177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The course is dedicated to advanced undergraduate control engineering students. Only two experimental platforms, among twenty projects, developed by the students as part of the course are exposed. The two projects use LabVIEW programming environment, its data acquisition platform and a wide-ranging set of tools for analyzing, displaying and storing data. The main objective of such education approach is to produce qualified engineers who are ready for innovation in research and industry careers, able to share results and collaborate with international projects. Recruitment results have shown that employers have more confidence in the technical abilities of our students for creating new business opportunities which could enhance their recruitment criteria.","PeriodicalId":398065,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Education and e-Learning Innovations","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116032497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An increasing number of students and reorganized curricula require innovative approaches to laboratory experiments. Four laboratory exercises have been defined and added into the syllabus of the course, “Models in Biomedical Engineering”. They include system identification on example of mechanical ventilation, feedback control in biological systems, signal models on example of blood pressure and flow velocity for assessment of cerebral autoregulation, and process models on example of pacemaker therapy. These complex topics were implemented to an e-learning project in order to enhance and simplify learning. Using the authoring tool IDEA an e-learning tutorial could achieve this goal. Online tutorials composed of structured theory explanation, interactive exercises and tests allowed students to learn according to their pace and time. So the tutor could concentrate on those topics, which were problematic for the students, comprehensive user tracking was successfully utilized.","PeriodicalId":398065,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Education and e-Learning Innovations","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133265421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The CDMA is uniquely featured by its spread spectrum (a random) process employing a pseudo random noise (PN) sequence, thus it is called the spread spectrum multiple access (SSMA). The CDMA can eliminate the data transfer latency variations by sharing the data communication media among multiple users concurrently. In this proposed work, we simulate the functionality of CDMA system on Xilinx ISE platform. Here, we use Manchester encode/decode technique for encryption and decryption. The development of e-learning models is not only addressing the concerns of the learner but also a technological challenge. There must be a business collaborating mechanism in learning process to ensure efficient and effective accomplishment of the learning activities. This paper presents a novel approach to map the collaborating mechanism into an e-learning application which uses the web services technology with a timing constraints specification. Our efforts concentrate on proposing a conceptual framework to conspicuously help designer in the optimizing the e-learning process through a robust comprehension of collaboration relationship between learning objects. Thanks to the transformation of framework to Hierarchical Timed Predicate Petri-Nets model, desirable properties such as deadlock free and safe as well as timing constraints satisfiability can be easily checked by designer.","PeriodicalId":398065,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Education and e-Learning Innovations","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114977114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, learner-centered approaches were developed and special attention was given to sociological dimensions of second language learning. Due to these shifts of focus, concept of learner identity came to attract the attention of language teachers and scholars. Therefore, second language scholars tried to investigate the possible relationship between the language learner and the larger social world. In the same line, the present article attempts to represent a description of the main variables in relation to learner identity aimed at shedding light on comprehending the theoretical points significant in the field. Then, the article goes on to discuss the role of identity and its possible influences in the field of second language teaching and learning. Interest in nanostructures based on II-VI semiconductor narrow gap containing mercury (such as superlattices HgTe / CdTe) was due to their advantages over alloys with cadmium telluride Mercury (MCT: HgCdTe). The ternary alloy Hg1−xCdxTe is a semiconductor band-gap direct, In our work we are interested in the ternary compound Hg07Cd03Te. The results obtained are very satisfactory; they are compared with experimental results, and are in good agreement. These results are very promising and open new perspectives for the realization of solar cells and applications in the field of sensors. WSNs are distributed in nature and preparing centralized security solutions cannot be a suitable for WSNs. There are various sensor holes that may be formed in WSNs and create variations in network topologies and also threaten the upper layer applications such as sinkhole, black holes, wormholes and Sybil attack. Wormhole attack occur when two or more malicious nodes receive packets at one point of the network and transmit them to another malicious node by a wired or wireless tunnel; wormhole is carried out easily without requiring compromising sensor nodes in the network. Also, the wormhole attack may cause other type of attacks like DoS or Sybil attack. Using a cryptographic technique is not enough to prevent wormhole attack. In this study, a new scheme is proposed based on modifying the forwarding packet process, selecting the best neighbour and using hop count technique in order to prevent and detect wormhole and thus, reduce the number of untrusted packets in geographic routing protocols. Performance evaluation of the proposed scheme is done using mathematical modelling and simulation. The results are compared with some related works such as Authentication of Nodes Scheme (ANS) and Reverse Routing Scheme (RRS).","PeriodicalId":398065,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Education and e-Learning Innovations","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125070309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most of these systems tailor presentation content and navigational support solely according to students' prior knowledge. On the other hand, previous research suggested that learning styles significantly affect student learning because they refer to how learners process and organize information. To this end, this paper presents an approach to integrate learning styles into adaptive e-learning hypermedia. The main objectives were to develop a Learning Style based Adaptive E-learning Hypermedia System (LS-AEHS) and assess the effect of adapting educational materials individualized to the student's learning style. In this work, our main goal aims to adopting the theory of experiential learning in the context of the DAVID KOLB's model to pass of this learning style model to define the adaptation rules in order to adapt the learning content and the navigation to each learning style in KOLB model. To achieve the main objectives, a case study was developed. An experimental evaluation was designed to evaluate the new approach of matching learning materials with learning styles and their influence on student's learning achievement. The findings support the use of learning styles as guideline for adaptation into the adaptive e-learning hypermedia systems.","PeriodicalId":398065,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Education and e-Learning Innovations","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128354709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
