The physical model tests have been performed at the Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI) offshore wave basin. The general aim of this work is to form an accurate set of data, basically consisting in incident waves, 3D wave oscillation and mooring loads that may be used as a possible term of reference for numerical models. The paper provides a thorough description of the geometrical and dynamic characteristics of the floating body, and the results in terms of the incident waves interpreted on the basis of an array of resistive wave gauges, the displacements as observed by a tracking camera system (surge, sway, heave and roll, pitch, yaw), and the loads measured by a load cell located at the fairlead of the anchoring lines, simulating in the physical model scale the tendons characteristics in full scale. Experimental results are given in graphical form for the case of regular wave conditions. Corresponding numerical results that have been obtained using home developed software for the hydrodynamic- and the static- and dynamic-analysis of the mooring lines (HAMVAB [1] and STATMOOR [2], respectively) compare well with the experimental data. STATMOOR [2] is capable to handle the static analysis of extensible mooring lines made of several segments each of them with different geometrical properties and with attached submerged buoys along them.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123168382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim is to demonstrate that the adoption of slightly unsymmetrical windings does not significantly affect the performances of the machines, both in terms of cogging torque and torque/load angle characteristics, providing also the advantage of a higher possibility of choice in terms of slot number/poles ratio. More in particular, an IPMSM model (named IPMSM-1) derived from a commercial geometry equipped with a symmetrical winding is analyzed by using a Finite Element Method (FEM) approach. The simulation results regarding the cogging torque trend, the static characteristics and the related harmonic analysis are shown and discussed. Afterwards, two other IPMSM models with unsymmetrical windings are obtained by modifying the IPMSM-1 stator structure, but maintaining the same rotor configuration. FEM analysis are carried out also for these geometries and the related simulation results are compared with those obtained for the IPMSM-1 model. From this comparison it can be stated that the equipment of slightly unsymmetrical windings can be a viable choice during the design process of rotating electrical machines.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115487063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One major advantage of SRMs is that they have the lowest material costs. On the other hand, they suffer from relatively high torque ripples, which can make the motor noisy and less efficient. In this paper, the design and optimization of a 12/8 toothed SRM is presented. The goal of the optimization was to analyze and modify the motor geometry in order to optimize the average torque while trying to minimize the torque ripples at the same time. The first step of the optimization consisted in finding the optimum number of winding turns: 7, which was lower than that of the initial design and allowed the rotor diameter to be increased by 24.9%. This resulted in an increase in average torque of 38.3 % and a decrease in torque ripples of 17.3 %. The next steps consisted in changing the shape of the winding slots by varying other geometrical dimensions and the rotor tooth width. It resulted in a non-negligible additional reduction in torque ripples of 10.2 % and in an average torque further improved by only 2.4 %. This shows that increasing the rotor diameter is the most effective way to increase the torque from the initial design considered, while the other parameters were already quite well dimensioned in this initial design.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114623330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent studies report driving range reductions up to 33 % in extreme heat and up to 60 % in extreme cold conditions. Furthermore, long recharging times of the battery limit the convenient operating range of EVs. Using a holistic energy management approach for electric vehicles, the EU-funded Horizon 2020 project “OPTEMUS” is aiming to develop battery modules that fit smoothly into the build-in volume of a state-of-the-art A-segment electric vehicle and addresses the target of counterbalancing ambient influences in order to increase driving range in extreme weather conditions and enhance battery lifetime. By using Phase Change Materials (PCM) in the battery, the amount of latent heat that can be stored in the battery is increased in order to increase the thermal stability of the battery. Advanced thermal management functions enable thermal charging and discharging of the battery as well as intelligent routing of thermal energy and usage of the stored thermal energy for passenger comfort.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129089351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Then, the radial magnetic forces applied to the mover are formulated and their variation with respect to the eccentricity is investigated. The study is achieved by the formulation of the synchronising component of the electromagnetic force in terms of eccentricity. 3D finite element analysis is carried out and enables the validation of the analytically-predicted results.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128313353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The invention in this sensorless control scheme combines the PLL methodology with a modified PMSM mathematical model expressed in the arbitrary rotating frame. Only stator voltages and currents are required in the algorithm estimating modified stator and rotor magnetic flux. The control strategy principle is based on the advantage of PLL-type structure to successfully track rotor flux with the required stability and accuracy. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and performance analysis of the proposed position and speed estimation method.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124621582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this article, the battery's discharge behaviour at various discharge rates is studied and surface monitor, discharge curve, volume monitor plot of maximum temperature in the domain and maximum temperature in the area are illustrated. Additionally, an external and internal short-circuit treatment for three cases have been studied. The Dual-Potential Multi-Scale Multi-Dimensional (MSMD) Battery Model (BM) was used by ANSYS FLUENT software to analysis the discharge behaviour of lithium-ion batteries. The results show that surface monitor plot of discharge curve at 1 C has a decreasing trend and volume monitor plot of maximum temperature in the domain has slightly increasing pattern over the simulation time. For the curves of discharge and maximum temperature in the domain, lowest and the highest rate of changes were seen for 0.5C and 5C respectively.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126901629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system consists of a Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery and an ultracapacitor. The scenario is a challenging use-case in public-transport in a large megacity - Istanbul, Turkey. Mobility data was recorded onsite and used for a holistic vehicle model in order to carry out long-term aging simulations. The goal was to find out if and to what extent aging can be reduced by adding an ultracapacitor unit. It was analyzed if this measure would economically be better than reducing the battery aging impact by oversizing the battery. Results show that a HESS can increase a battery unit's lifespan more cost effectively than the oversizing of the battery-only-storage, but not by a significant amount. The magnitude of the economic impact strongly depends on external factors, such as price fluctuations. Ultimately, it was found that the concept is not economically efficient, given the current technical and financial situation.","PeriodicalId":395329,"journal":{"name":"2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130372632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
