In the OPF, the goal is to plan the production and distribution of electrical power flows to cover, at minimal fuel cost, the consumption at various points in the network. Three variants of the OPF problem are studied in this manuscript. The first one, OPF corresponds to the case where power production costs in the network are modeled with a quadratic cost. In the second variant, OPF with outages of some lines, we clarify the extent to which power flow is affected by the outages and the increasing number of overloaded lines. Finally, the last variant, secured OPF corresponds to the case where the management of production units can respect the power limit of each line by rescheduling power production units. The study focuses on congestion management in the IEEE 30 bus system by applying a model for OPF, incorporating data from both transmission lines and generators. The research proposes a Hunting Optimization Technique which is named “Multi-Objective Ant Lion Optimizer (MOALO)” to solve single and multi-objective optimization problems to find a solution for management pricing, comparing results with other research methods to show the effectiveness of the applied approach and the mathematical model representing congestion management.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140376299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system is based on a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) and a low-speed flywheel that are coupled by an electric variable transmission (EVT). The EVT performs a dual function by simultaneously injecting power to the grid and regulating the power flow to the flywheel to smooth the power fluctuation caused by wind turbulences. The main advantages of the presented generation/smoothing topology are integrating two machines (generator and motor) in the same physical structure and the reduced power demanded by the converter that feeds the flywheel’s rotor. A theoretical analysis is carried out to determine an appropriate control law and flywheel sizing to satisfy a desired attenuation of the power fluctuation. Simulation results show an effective smoothing action, as the power fluctuation is reduced to an adequate level. In addition, the validity of the flywheel sizing procedure is verified.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140374993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The conventional tools for resolving such challenges include programming techniques and heuristic approaches, both contingent upon a precisely articulated target function for optimization. Traditional optimization tools rely on precisely defined target functions, but the evolving landscape of power systems introduces complexity, especially with unpredictable behaviors of renewable sources. The research specifically quantifies penalty costs associated with photovoltaic (PV) generators, employing probabilistic methods for a robust mathematical analysis. The developed analytical model enhances adaptability in economic dispatch problems, considering uncertainty in decision-making. Validation using Monte Carlo simulation emphasizes uncertainty in PV generation and highlights the advantages of the proposed analytic model. The quadratic form of the model aligns coherently with simulation outcomes, contributing significantly to understanding uncertainty quantification in solar power modeling. The research aims to refine controllable solar power models, establish robust uncertainty cost functions, and improve the accuracy of economic dispatch strategies. Ultimately, this work promotes the seamless integration of solar energy into diverse and dynamic energy grids.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140375017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Grid-tied solar inverters are only capable of producing active electricity since they are made to produce power at a unity power factor. The grid alone can meet the load’s requirement for reactive power. Reactive power drawn from the grid relative to active power has increased significantly with the sharp rise in the deployment of distributed energy resources based on renewable energy. This has an impact on the grid’s power quality. The amount of reactive power that the grid must supply will decrease if the grid-tied solar inverter is designed to be intelligent enough to provide reactive power in addition to active power. This work’s primary goal is to generate the necessary pulses for a three-phase inverter, which will aid in producing reactive power and ultimately help achieve the work’s primary objective. Fuzzy logic is a complex approach that takes advantage of the flexibility and adaptability of fuzzy systems to manage Voltage Source Converters (VSCs) for three-phase inverter operation. The primary circuit is simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink environment, giving the desired results.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140249296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Ward and REI methods involve the admittance reduction method as well as being merged with the EMS model to derive boundary parameters, but these methods are limited and valid for a predefined condition. Therefore, it is required to design an equivalent circuit that adopts the real power system for analysis. In this paper, a new method is proposed to design a scaled-down power system model without changing the impedance of components. In this regard, a Low Voltage Simulink Model (LVSM) of the IEEE 57 bus network was designed in MATLAB/ Simulink so that it could be useful for laboratory model design purposes. The main objectives of this paper are to propose a mathematical procedure to scale down the network parameters and design a 3-phase LVSM of an IEEE 57 bus power system network within the Simulink platform. The performance of LVSM was analyzed with no-load, balanced load, and unbalanced load models. These simulation studies were validated and compared with the theoretical results to prove that the proposed LVSM modeling has good mathematical accuracy, robustness, and validity for practical model implementation.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140248996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is completely dependent on the natural process of air blown in the area or past forecasting of air blown data. It is considered an uncertain source of energy and less reliable in the context of real-time energy provisions. To make this wind energy more reliable and consistent, we are introducing a simplified approach for wind uncertainty cost functions based on uniform probability distributions and its evaluation for usage. We have developed analytical mathematics cost functions based on several assumptions and they are constructed using Weibull and Rayleigh probability distributions. The proposed method produces the required results to make this energy reliable and consistent with the distribution networks. Computing time and complexity are less as compared to the other methods to minimize the uncertainty of wind energy.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140250542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The starting transients, the settling time, and the harmonics of the stator and rotor currents and voltages are investigated as a function of the DC link capacitor Cd. Curve fitting is applied to derive mathematical equations (polynomial) relating the variation of the stator current THD with the value of the DC capacitor. Similarly, polynomials are deduced to relate the THD of the rotor current and rotor voltage with the value of the DC link capacitor. These polynomials help to design the DC link parameters that lead to minimum current and voltage harmonics of the grid-connected DFIG. The minimum THD values of the stator current, rotor current, and rotor voltage are presented. These results are repeated at different rotor speeds to deduce the optimum Cd value within a wide speed range. Also, the effect of Cd on the DC link current and voltage ripples is demonstrated at different speeds.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140249993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are multiple methods commonly used for this purpose that go under conditional monitoring. Conventional conditional monitoring can be time-consuming and difficult to interpret by a non-experienced operator, which increases the risks in such critical applications. Virtual Reality (VR) has been in use for multiple applications to ease the usage of complex tasks via proper visualization. In this paper, a visualization approach of industrial application that monitors the motor’s health connected with a vibration sensor via a programmable logic controller (PLC) is presented. The Beckhoff PLC was programmed using TwinCAT 3 software and linked with Unity VR headsets via MQTT protocol. The user is given the ability to select the number of connected sensors and place them to mimic the actual environment, import their own 3D machine design, test for MQTT broker connectivity, and visualize the machine's health as per the ISO 10826-3 standard. The proposed system has been tested successfully and it is expected to ease visualization in an industrial setup.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140078017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Field-oriented control (FOC) based PMSM drive is modeled in the present work to optimize the torque and speed performance of the PMSM. The FOC is based on a dissociated speed and flux control approach, which controls the speed and flux of the PMSM independently. The standard Proportional Integrator Derivative (PID) controller regulates the speed in FOC, which is noted for its increased resilience in linear systems, however in nonlinear ones, the PID controller responds poorly to changes in the system’s variables. In this case, the best solutions are frequently based on optimization techniques that produce the controller’s gains in every period. Optimizing the PID’s behavior in response to the system’s nonlinear behavior. The novel proposed strategy for enhancing the gains of the PID controller by employing a cost function such as Integral Time Absolute Error (ITAE) is based on PID speed regulation and is optimized using the Ant Colony Optimization algorithm (ACO) for FOC. To confirm the strategy’s aims, the suggested method is implemented on Matlab/Simulink. The simulation results demonstrated the efficiency of the intelligent ACO-FOC control, which delivers good performance in terms of stability, rapidity, and torque fluctuations.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140083426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
