Therefore distribution audits are mandatory for identifying power surges in these transmission lines. This article, therefore, proposes a Power Surge Detection using the Transmission Audit (PSD-TA) scheme. The proposed scheme houses federated learning for identifying surges due to generation or utilization between distribution points. Based on the detection, the regulation or transmission allocation for the distinct surges is recommended by the learning for reducing failures. Therefore the previous audit from the surge is used for identifying similar failures by training the learning paradigm. This scheme, therefore, improves the distribution rate and meets the utilization demands of the users.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139617346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because, of their eco friendlessness and cost effective operation. A Re-Lift Luo Converter integrated with renewable sources to the utility microgrid along with Intelligent Controller strategies is proposed. The solar photovoltaic system provides voltage to the inverter through a Re-lift Luo converter. The Bidirectional Battery converter along with battery system is used to achieve energy control management for the proposed system. In this paper the grid synchronization with DSTATCOM devices controlled by PI controller with D-Q theory transformation is achieved. Under this work, DSTATCOM has been used to improve the power quality under different loading conditions. The LC filter is employed to develop the output of the inverter. The input of the PV and battery systems are DC bus power source, as well as AC power injected into the grid network. The obtained results indicate that proposed approach delivers better performance with superior efficiency and nominal harmonics. The entire proposed system is validated through a MATLAB simulation and Hardware experimental prototype.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139619269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance of a custom power device, distribution static compensator (D-STATCOM), in reducing current total harmonic distortion (THD) during the mitigation process of voltage dip with fault is investigated in this study. To control the load side voltage, the D-STATCOM utilizes a three-phase voltage source converter and is coupled at the point of common coupling (PCC). To mitigate voltage dip effects, this study implements and compares the effectiveness of the conventional PI controller with an intelligent optimization-based PI controller using the dynamic gravitational search algorithm (DGSA). The performance of these controllers is validated by the MATLAB/Simulink simulation results obtained. Analysis of the results demonstrates that D-STATCOM operates flawlessly with an intelligently optimized PI control strategy reducing the current THD from 11.68% to 3.74%.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138972209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the operative cycles of the electrical turbine, the faults are predicted to prevent power generation interruptions. This paper introduces an Interference Optimization-based Fault Prediction Method (IO-FPM) for serving smooth operation purposes. In this method, the inferred optimization using classifier tree learning is induced for segregating the operating cycles of the turbine. The maximum and minimum threshold conditions for turbine operation using resistance and magnitude of the blades are accounted for each operation cycle. The classifier performs segregation based on low and high thresholds for predicting failure cycles. Such cycles are altered using pre-maintenance intervals and mechanical fault diagnosis at an early stage. This prevents turbine failure regardless of external influencing factors.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138601233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The STATCOM parameter tuning process is converted to an optimization problem which is solved by FPA. The performance of the proposed FPA-based STATCOM (FPASTATCOM) is compared with Genetic Algorithm (GA) based STATCOM (GASTATCOM) under various operating conditions and disturbances. The superiority of the proposed technique in damping oscillations is confirmed via eigenvalues and time domain simulation results over the GA.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139217014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Renewable energy sources (RES), such as solar, photovoltaic, and wind are gradually overtaking other sources as the most attractive alternative within the power generation and distribution systems across many nations. Reduction in the carbon footprint is a major consideration in the choice of the RES. However, the technical challenges with RES pose a significant barrier to unified integration, even though the high penetration level appears plausible. The challenges are majorly caused by the variability and unpredictability of these sources. It is therefore a stimulating task to efficiently manage the electrical power distribution systems in the face of renewable energy integration. The purpose of this study is to examine the potential of renewable energy integration and the accompanying technical challenges that include power quality issues associated with grid-tied renewable energy (GtRE). The study also recommends techniques capable of mitigating prominent power quality challenges to guarantee seamless renewable energy integration in power systems.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139256976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This motor is a brushless DC (BLDC) motor as a high-performance drive. It is supplied from twin electric sources to drive it and charge the storage elements (i.e., batteries, super-capacitors, etc.). The first one is a renewable, neat, and clean source photovoltaic (PV) module and the second one is a pedal generator driven by the rider. The submitted design of the controllers is optimized to improve the system’s dynamic stability. The artificial bee colony (ABC) as an artificial intelligent (AI) algorithm is suggested for searching the optimal gains of the proposed proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers by reducing the error of its fitness function. The system behavior is studied with that controller when directly feeding from the PV array with and without batteries. The response of the proposed technique - against dynamic troubles and PV oscillations such as irradiance- is also verified. Other evolutionary computational techniques - such as ant colony optimization (ACO) and genetic algorithm (GA)- have been compared with the behavior of the proposed controller to ensure high efficiency in optimized tuning of PID gains. Then, the proposed controller that gives a high performance will be executed in real-time by using OPAL-RT 4510 RT-simulator and rapid control prototyping.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139257295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the first mode, the active switches are on and energy is transferred into the coil. In the second mode, the coil is short-circuited and the current in the coils stays constant, and in the third mode, the free-wheeling diode takes over the current. In the here used concept the active switch of the original converter is replaced by a series connection of two active switches and an additional diode is connected to the connection point of the two electronic switches. The other terminal of the diode is connected to the coil. This concept was originally applied to the Boost converter. In this paper, it is shown that the same idea can be applied to other DC/DC converters and the Buck and the Buck-Boost converters are shown. It is also possible to apply the concept to converters of higher order. Here the Cuk, Zeta, and SEPIC are treated. It is also possible to apply it to quadratic converters and the d-square converter is taken as an example. A converter with a reduced duty cycle is also treated and a modification that avoids the inrush current is also shown. Finally, an improved superlift converter is treated. The position of the zero of the transfer function is exemplarily studied.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139255771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article presents a methodology for integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as an advanced tool for building energy management, allowing to combine detailed information about the physical aspects of the building with geospatial and environmental data. While BIM enables the integrated design, construction, and management of buildings and infrastructure, GIS provides spatial analysis based on geographical data. However, integrating these two approaches is complex, particularly regarding data formats, scale, and accuracy. This study, therefore, presents the application of a new integration environment, Autodesk InfraWorks, which combines Autodesk Revit and ArcGIS for a complete visualization of models in a GIS context. Illustrating the implementation of this approach in an energy efficiency project in the Municipality of Reggio Calabria (Italy), this article demonstrates how the convergence of BIM and GIS can improve urban planning and land cover management, promoting sustainable development practices in the city. This integration has the potential to significantly benefit urban power systems by offering a holistic view of building energy management within a broader urban context. It enables urban planners to make informed decisions that consider energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and overall urban development, leading to a more efficient and resilient power system.","PeriodicalId":38993,"journal":{"name":"WSEAS Transactions on Power Systems","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139270277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
