This study aims to develop a model of Agra Mas Bus driver's fitness for duty using measuring instruments in the form of the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS) and Quantitative Analysis of Situational Awareness (QUASA). Thirty Agra Mas Bus drivers on the Wonogiri – Kendal – Karawang route participated in the study with independent variables such as age, weight, height, sleep duration, sleep quality, cigarette consumption, caffeine consumption, eye health, shift work, attention level, fatigue, and sleepiness, as well as the dependent variable in the form of FFD results of physical test screening. The results of this study indicate that the study and evaluation of the driver's job readiness level are quite good. That is, 100% of the drivers can be declared ready to be seen from the model that has been made. A total of 96.7% of drivers were correctly predicted, meaning that the predictive power or the accuracy of the model in classifying its observations was 96.7%. The ability of the model to predict the observation value is high, which is 75.8%. The adjusted R2 value of the model is 66.67%. VAS and KSS can be used to evaluate the work readiness of drivers, while QUASA cannot be used. Fatigue and sleepiness affect the driver's work readiness, while attention does not. Fatigue affects the driver's level of sleepiness. The more tired a driver is, the higher the level of sleepiness felt. A shift has no significant effect on attention, fatigue, and sleepiness. Shifts can affect the duration and quality of a driver's sleep. The expected results of this study can be a reference for predicting the fitness for duty of bus drivers so that the risk of road accidents is reduced.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72413352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The accompanying chronicity, pain and disability are usually associated with mental health impairment. This study was carried out to examine the prevalence of MSDs and its relationship with psychological distress among undergraduate students from several health sciences programs. A set of self-administered questionnaires consisting of the Standardised Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) was given out to 330 undergraduate students of a public university in Malaysia. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis on the relationship between MSDs and psychological distress (depression, stress, and anxiety). The prevalence of MSDs during the past 12 months was found to be high (86.6%), with lower back pain being the most common symptom (63.3%), followed by neck pain (53.6%) and shoulder pain (50.6%). Half of the students (57.0%) reported depression, 37.3% reported anxiety, and 28.2% reported stress. The occurrence of MSDs in the regions of the shoulder, and hips or thighs or buttock regions have significant positive relationship with stress and anxiety scores of the students (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the occurrence of MSDs in the region of the wrists or hands, knees, and shoulders have significant positive relationship with the depression score (p < 0.05). In conclusion, MSDs in the shoulder, hips or thighs or buttock regions wrists or hands, and knees regions were significantly associated with psychological distress. Further intervention programs should be implemented to reduce psychological distress associated with MSDs among the students.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81909968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Students experiencing food insecurity have a higher likelihood of performing poorly at university. However, only a few studies have been conducted in Malaysia to determine the association between food insecurity, and academic performance among university students during COVID-19. As a result, the purpose of this study was to investigate the aforementioned association between variables. This cross-sectional study was conducted among 300 undergraduate students from Malaysia's selected public universities in each zone. This self-administered online survey is divided into three sections: demographic and socioeconomic factors; food security status via the USDA (food security survey module, FSSM); and students' current academic performance (based on ICGPA). SPSS version 25 was used to analyse the data. The result indicates the majority of the respondents were classified to have a marginal food security level (38.0%), followed by high food security level (31.0%), low food security level (21.7%), and the remaining (9.30%) were classified to have a very low food security level. The majority of respondents (45.3%) had a CGPA of 3.50 to 4.00. The study showed a statistically significant association between food insecurity and current CGPA among Malaysian university students (1, n=300) = 7.739 and p=0.021. The association between food insecurity and academic performance may be accounted for by a range of causes, including hunger, despair, and ill health. Selecting the extent to which each possible relationship between food insecurity and low academic performance contributes can aid health-related authorities in determining the most effective areas for intervention.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84355509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A decreased income influences food expenditure and accessibility affecting dietary adherence to healthy recommendations. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the association between financial hardship and dietary adherence among Malaysian working adults during the pandemic. Individuals aged 18 to 59 years (N=163) who experienced financial hardship during the pandemic participated in this cross-sectional study. The data were collected through an online survey. The reported number of servings consumed by the respondents for nine food groups was compared with the recommendations by the Malaysian Dietary Guidelines 2020 and Malaysian Food Pyramid 2020 using one-sample t-test to measure dietary adherence. The association between the financial hardship categories (≤25%, 26-50%, 51-75%, and 76-100% of monthly household income reduction rate during the pandemic) and dietary adherence status was assessed using the chi-squared test. The respondents consumed significantly lower number of servings of vegetables, fruits, cereals, fish, legumes, milk and milk products, and fat/oils, compared to recommendations (all p<0.001) whereas their sugar intake was significantly higher than recommended (p=0.041). These indicate dietary non-adherence. However, no association between financial hardship and dietary adherence was detected among adults who were financially affected during the COVID-19 pandemic in this study. In conclusion, most Malaysian adults who reportedly experienced financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated non-adherence to healthy dietary recommendations. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to recruit participants from 10 hospitals in 10 districts of Suphanburi Province. A total of 228 participants have been diagnosed with CKD stage 3. Data were collected using a questionnaire with an overall Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.96. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression at the significant level of 0.05. The results showed that the social support scores from medical personnel had high levels (52.20%). Meanwhile, the score of healthcare providers, village health volunteers, and families had low levels (76.80%, 98.20%, and 85.10%, respectively). For illness perception, perceived benefits, self-efficacy, and self-management behaviors of patients with CKD stage had high levels (62.30%, 92.10%, 95.60%, and 50.90%, respectively). Meanwhile, CKD knowledge had moderate levels of 58.30%. The strongest predictor of self-management behaviors in a patient with CKD stage 3 was social support from healthcare providers (Beta = 0.348, p-value < 0.001), followed by perceived benefits (Beta = 0.299, p-value < 0.001) and self-efficacy (Beta = 0.266, p-value < 0.001), respectively. These factors account for 42.70% of predicting self-management behaviors of a patient with CKD stage 3. In conclusion, healthcare providers should encourage the self-management behaviors of patients with stage 3 CKD by enhancing their perceived benefits and self-efficacy to modify behaviors in order to slow the progression of CKD.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87839756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, this study aimed to examine the prevalence of a sedentary lifestyle (H1), the sedentary prevalence in influencing the risk of health problems and stress levels (H2, H3), and the more dominant sedentary prevalence in influencing health problems or stress levels (H4). The sample was made up of 420 between the ages of 17 and 55 who were all residents of the city of Malang, with a total of 535 respondents. The instruments used for measurement are the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) questionnaires. The results by implementing Chi-Square and Odds Ratio analysis showed the prevalence of a sedentary lifestyle in the Malang city community of 352 respondents (83.8%), sedentary prevalence did not affect the risk of chronic disease (Chi=0.028, 95% sig/p=0.867>0.05), sedentary prevalence affected the level of stress (Chi=11.808, 95% sig/p=0.001<0.05), and the level of stress was predicted as the dominant factor influenced by sedentary lifestyle prevalence (Adj.OR=2.771, 95% CI lower and upper >1). In conclusion, the sedentary prevalence was more dominant in influencing stress levels than the risk of chronic diseases. Based on these results, the researcher suggests that respondents modify their lifestyle by increasing physical activity because the risk of chronic diseases originates from their daily lifestyle or behavior. In addition, the community had to pay great attention and discipline to maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent stress.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"83 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83786944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to investigate the issues and challenges that the elderly face when using a walking frame/walker, as well as to identify potential solutions and considerations. The Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) sessions were conducted in this study which involved seventeen respondents from various parties, including people aged 60 and above (current users of walking frames/walkers), their caregivers, industry people involved in the marketing and selling of walking frames/walkers and experts/researchers. Interview data as verbatim transcripts were analyzed thematically and gathered systematically into a specific classification according to the House of Quality (HoQ) for technical analysis. Findings on FGD showed that quality, design, and cost were key issues raised by respondents. Based on the HoQ analysis, it’s indicated that the highest rank of customer requirements (CRs) for a new walking frames/walkers design requirement was safety (rank 1), stable (rank 2), suitable for outdoor use (rank 3), user-friendly (rank 4) and comfort design (rank 5). Meanwhile, the highest rank of technical requirements (TRs) are adjustable height and width (rank 1), design two-level handle walking frames/walkers and design ‘R’ shape walking frames/walkers (rank 2 & 3), design with ABS castor wheel (rank 4) which provided functional accessories such as seat, bucket, and pocket (rank 5). The information acquired would be useful as references for further studies on the development of suitable walking frames/walkers for the Malaysian elderly in the future.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82175700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is widespread use of tobacco among adolescents where the establishment of smoking behavior occurs during adolescence. Due to the high prevalence of smoking in Indonesia, it is essential to identify the associated risk factors for smoking behavior among adolescents, especially in West Sumatra. Thus, this study aims to determine the validity and reliability of the Adolescent Smoking Questionnaire (ASQ) that consisted of associated factors on smoking behavior among adolescents in Padang, Indonesia. This cross-sectional study was conducted among 172 respondents aged 13-15 from high schools in rural and urban areas, Padang City. The questionnaire consisted of sociodemographic information, knowledge of smoking, attitude toward smoking, social influence on smoking, and psychological factor. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were performed using STATA software Version 14. The EFA resulted in the production of 4 domains with 47 items. The CFA produced 46 items, and the model fit the data well, with CFI and TLI above 0.90 and RMSEA less than 0.08. All items also had factor loadings greater than 0.50. The Cronbach's alpha showed a good internal consistency since all domains had values greater than 0.7. However, owing to reports of a low vaccination rate, the objective of this study was to explore the factors associated with parents’ hesitation in getting their young children vaccinated. This is a cross-sectional study conducted in a tertiary hospital. All parents or legal guardians of paediatric patients with chronic illnesses aged 3 to 11 who visited the hospital during the study period filled out the online questionnaire. Two hundred and thirty-five outpatient clinic respondents and 77 ward respondents were asked to complete the questionnaire. Malays made up the majority (88.5%), followed by Chinese (6.7%) and Indians (4.8%). Ethnicity, information sources, children‘s age, knowledge score and vaccine perception were found to be significantly different across three degrees of acceptance – ‘Yes’, ‘No’ and ‘Not sure’.
