This is potentially exacerbated by cognitive and functional decline. This study, therefore, aimed to determine the burden of GIP among older adults in institutional care. This cross-sectional study involved coprological screening and a quantitative survey among thirty-seven (n=37) residents from two nursing homes in Kajang, Selangor. Demographic data and information on the subject were collected through face-to-face interviews with caregivers and participating residents regarding their daily hygiene practice before stool sample collection. Gastrointestinal parasite (GIP) was identified by formalin-ethyl sedimentation technique and stained using Trichrome and Acid-fast. GIP was present among 34 (91.9%) of residents, 32.4% monoparasitism, 52.9% biparasitism and 14.7% polyparasitism. Up to five species were recovered, including Blastocystis spp (51.6%) and Cryptosporidium spp. (38.7%). Those of older age have increased GIP prevalence. This study examined the challenges faced by disabled entrepreneurs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Twenty of 51 disabled entrepreneurs who have successfully participated in the Selangor Youth Community Leadership Entrepreneurship Acceleration and Development (SAY LEAD) program with different types of disabilities, ages, marital statuses, educational levels, and types of business were recruited using purposive sampling. The inclusion criteria included being registered as a person with disability with the Malaysia Department of Social Welfare, was born in Selangor or currently living in Selangor for at least five years, aged from 18 to 40 years old, and applied for SAY LEAD program. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews enabling the interviewee to share personal experiences and perceptions on challenges in managing their business during the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority of participants were male (80%, n=16), aged between 31 and 35 years old (35%, n=7), single (65%, n=13), and physically disabled (60%, n=12). The transcripts of the interviews were subjected to thematic analysis. The emerging themes were that disabled entrepreneurs were restricted in their physical movement during Movement Control Order (MCO), have financial problems, and have health risks that needed them to reconcile between business and family commitments. The study suggests that the use of technology in doing business, attending online seminars and classes during the pandemic, and getting financial support from the government are the coping strategies to overcome the challenges faced by disabled entrepreneurs.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87123123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A retrospective study was conducted from January 2018 until December 2019 involving 393 patients, with 131 and 262 patients categorized as undertriaged and appropriately triaged, respectively. Undertriage patients were identified as patients who fulfilled the red zone category based on the Malaysian Triage Category but were mistriaged to green. The numerator was the number of red zone patients who were mistriaged to green, and the denominator consisted of all red zone patients. Patient characteristics (demography, comorbidities, chief complaints, vital signs, Glasgow Coma Scale), environmental factors (working shift, weekend, public holiday), and staff factors (paramedic and nurses’ working experience) were obtained from electronic medical records and proforma forms. Logistic regression was employed to analyse the data. The rate of undertriage was 1.2% (131/10,867 cases), slightly higher than the 0.5% set by the Health Ministry of Malaysia. This resistance includes different forms of behavior called anti-vaccine, ranging from being against some vaccines to rejecting all vaccines. In this study, it was aimed to examine the change in the level of anti-vaccination, which tends to increase worldwide during the covid-19 period, depending on socio-demographic variables. In the study, it was questioned whether there was a significant difference between the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants, their covid-19, experiences, and the scores they got from the Anti-Vaccination Scale. At the end of the analysis, it was observed that there was no significant difference between the total score of the anti-vaccine scale and the anti-vaccination levels according to the gender, marital status, presence of chronic disease, and covid-19 experiences of the participants. On the other hand, it was observed that there were differences in the levels of anti-vaccination depending on age, education level, income status, and several children. This study aims to identify whether moral identity (internalization, symbolization) and gender are predictive factors of emotional valence in response to smoking and non-smoking images. Youth-aged participants (N=347) viewed a series of smoking and non-smoking images and rated their emotional valence by using the Self-assessment Manikin. They also responded to the internalization and symbolization items on the Moral Identity Scale. The combination of gender and internalization factors explained the significant variance of emotional valence in smoking (12%) and non-smoking (7%) respectively. Participants with low internalization exhibited 2.4 odds to experience high emotional valence from the smoking images than those with high internalization. Internalization also indicated a significant predictor of emotional valence in non-smoking images. Internalization is a dominant trait rather than symbolization in predicting smoking and non-smoking behaviour. Gender interplays with internalization to provide an insightful explanation of emotional variance in smoking and non-smoking behaviour. Implication on public health program among youth-aged group is highlighted.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82573632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This behavior is becoming more prevalent among young people and has been linked to a number of detrimental effects. The current systematic review has aimed to examine the significant intrinsic and extrinsic factors associated with sexting behavior among youths. The relevant studies were found via six electronic databases and the eligible studies include studies that measured intrinsic and extrinsic factors associated with sexting behavior as dependent variables among the mean age group 10 to 24 years old, and cross-sectional, cohort, or case-control studies that reported the odds ratio (OR) or relative risk (RR) value and significant p-value or 95% CI. A total of 14 articles that were produced between years 2014 to 2020 were included in the qualitative synthesis. From these 14 studies, the reported significant factors associated with sexting were age, puberty, sex, sexual orientation, personal characteristics, psychosocial factors, peers, family, relationship status, sexual activity, internet use, and online-related activities. Perception of popular peer’s sexting behavior and female sex were the reported intrinsic factors with the highest odds ratio (OR) value. Participation in risky online activities and a history of sexual activity were reported to have the highest OR value among other extrinsic factors. In contrast to prior reviews on sexting that have mostly focused on the association of sexting with sexual risk behavior and mental health, this review has closely examined both individual and extrinsic factors related with sexting behavior, particularly among youths. The findings from this review can assist in the development of more comprehensive health education and behavioral intervention on sexting behavior among youths, such as using peer-based intervention and limiting the duration of internet use.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"35 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72939228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to investigate the associations of exposure to particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) inside campus transit buses with respiratory symptoms among bus drivers. A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted among 38 bus drivers as the exposed group and 38 office workers as the comparative group at a Malaysian public university. Indoor air monitoring was performed for 8 hours using SidePak Personal Aerosol Monitor, DustTrak II Aerosol Monitor, and Air Quality Monitor, while background information and self-reported respiratory symptoms were obtained using an adapted American Thoracic Society (ATS-DLD-78-A) questionnaire. Air pollutants (PM2.5, PM10 and NO2) exposure between both groups was significantly different at p<0.05. The exposed group had higher odds of getting cough (OR=2.5), chronic cough (OR=2.2) and chronic phlegm (OR=4.6) than the comparative group. Moreover, there were significant associations between PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations with cough (OR=2.2), chronic cough (OR=2.2), and chronic phlegm (OR=2.2). Meanwhile, only cough was significantly associated with NO2 (OR=2.4). Multiple logistic regression showed that the main predictor for cough was PM2.5 (OR=3.2), for chronic cough was PM10 (OR=5.0), and for chronic phlegm was work duration (OR=1.3). In short, the exposed group was exposed to higher concentrations of air pollutants than the comparative group, leading to a higher prevalence of respiratory symptoms among the bus drivers. These findings provide important evidence for future programs to improve the air quality in buses. It is recommended that the indoor air quality inside the bus should be monitored periodically to ensure the drivers and the passengers are not exposed to air pollutants above the permissible limit.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80027782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All the studies are methodologically good however limitation was identified in their concealment technique. All the included studies reported on the improvement in the glucose control, decreased in body mass index (BMI) and improvement in the adherence to the self-management activities. Mobile health application is effective in improving the glucose control (HbA1c), BMI and self-management activities of patients with type 2 diabetes.
