The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of organizational factors (namely organizational communication and organizational management) on the performance of healthcare employees in selected private healthcare establishments in Northern Malaysia. A sample of 152 employees was used, and descriptive analysis, correlation, and regression techniques were employed to analyze the relationship between the independent variables (communication techniques, communication barriers, training, and management style) and the dependent variable (employee performance). The results indicated that communication technique was the most critical and influential factor impacting employee performance, while training and management style also had a positive impact. The study recommends that healthcare establishments in Northern Malaysia prioritize effective communication techniques to improve employee performance. In conclusion, this study provides insights into the factors that affect employee performance in the healthcare industry and can inform organizational practices in improving employee performance.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135138787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most studies on mental health help-seeking in Malaysia focussed on stigma and mental health literacy. This study aimed to examine the relationship between cultural value and university students’ attitudes towards seeking help for their mental health. An online survey was conducted using the Inventory of Attitudes towards Seeking Mental Health Services (IASMHS), Cultural Values Scale (CVSCALE), and Psychological Well-being Scale (PWBS) amongst university students in Malaysia. A total of 167 university students (Mean age = 21.57 years old, 75.4% females) participated in the study. Overall, the participants had a positive attitude towards mental health help-seeking. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis showed that the Chinese race (B = -0.315, p = 0.028), long-term orientation (B = 0.250, p = 0.002), Hindu religion (B = -0.242, p = 0.039), masculinity orientation (B = -0.223, p = 0.006), psychological well-being (B = 0.194, p = 0.008), Malay race (B = -0.165, p = 0.045), and participant’s age (B = 0.150, p = 0.028) were significantly associated with attitude towards mental health help-seeking. The results had implications for understanding cultural reasons that hinder mental health help-seeking amongst university students in Malaysia, and proposed recommendations in designing culturally relevant and appropriate interventions for targeted groups.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Brushing teeth twice a day is considered the social norm, but the development of such habits is dependent on psychosocial, economic, and environmental factors. Recognizing the significance of statistical modeling in medical sciences, this study will use decision trees and ordinal regression to predict frequency of toothbrushing in children. The methodology will be harmonized in the R syntax. The study illustrated the development of the method using 527 observations from WHO oral health questionnaire for children. Before regression analysis, the clinical relevance and significance of each of the 28 variables will be assessed using decision tree analysis and tested for accuracy. The classification obtained will be used as an input for the ordinal regression modeling. According to decision tree analysis, smoking, maternal education, dietary habits, history of toothache and self-rated tooth health contributed significantly to the children’s overall toothbrushing frequency. These six variables were used as input for ordinal regression analysis and the developed syntax was used to assess the goodness of fit for the model. Our proposed method achieves the highest level of forecasting precision possible. The process is an alternate to ordinal regression modelling as the selection of appropriate variables is based on computational analysis, forecasting the importance of the independent variables chosen for the final model. This process demonstrates the possibility of developing prediction models which can then be used to formulate clinical hypothesis and inform future researchers.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135138538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Past researchers gave guidelines on the general e-Health, but the usability guidelines for m-Health apps were lacking. General guidelines are challenging to refer to when developing mobile apps with specific domains and complex functionalities. However, the absence of specific m-Health guidelines has made it challenging to design a quality and suitable app if it follows the general guidelines. Hence, specific usability guidelines for specific domains and complex functionalities apps with quality and sound research were developed to ensure the users get the best usable app. This study aims to produce a m-Health usability guideline for the clinical-based app of clinical coding and grouping for healthcare users. A total of ten participants participated in this study, which were fell into three categories; namely four industrial practitioners in the field of UI/UX, four experts with more than 20 years of experience in UI/UX and usability expertise, and two end-users, which consist of doctors and lecturers in public health and clinical coding. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews, allowing the participants to share feedbacks and comments to improve the usability guidelines and prototype for clinical coding and grouping of the m-Health app. The four participants from the expert categories had undergone usability evaluations, namely heuristic evaluations, while the two end-users’ groups had engaged in cognitive walkthroughs to improve the usability guidelines and the app’s prototype. The transcript of the interviews and usability evaluations were transcribed for thematic analysis using Nvivo software. The emerging themes were categorised into legibility and readability consisting of sub-themes font, icon, label and logo, buttons, and visual design that includes the sub-theme, theme and style, illustration and animation and colour. The emerging themes were a few vital usability components that were taken into consideration during the development of the m-Health app. The study highlights some of the usability components that were the foundation of the usability guidelines and the prototypes developed may be used by researchers and developers to develop the clinical-based m-Health app in the future. The usability guidelines and the clinical coding and grouping m-Health app prototype can be further tested towards other m-Health apps with similar features and between more experts and other wider audiences, such as older age groups and colour-blind people to produce a more robust and holistic app that is universally suited for all people. Moreover, the expansion from a medium-fidelity prototype to a high-fidelity app was also encouraged for future researchers and developers.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135135310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The object of this research was to determine the effect of preeclampsia during pregnancy on the quality of life of children 2-4 years.  The study used a retrospective cohort. The sample was 104 (consisted of 52 pregnant women with preeclampsia and 52 normal pregnant women), not suffering from chronic disease, taken randomly. Preeclampsia was assessed based on the diagnosis from medical records, while children’s quality of life was assessed using PedsQL. Data were analyzed by using logistic regression. The results showed preeclampsia has an effect on physical quality of children (p-value 0.03 <0.05), but did not affect the child's social and emotional function. Children born to mothers with preeclampsia are at 5.9 times the risk of having low physical quality compared to children born to normal maternal pregnancies. Early efforts are needed to stimulate children born to mothers who suffer from Preeclampsia in order to obtain optimal quality of life and physical function.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Decisions regarding vaccine acceptance may be impacted by a variety of circumstances, and individuals may weigh these aspects differently. The objective of this study was to assess the acceptance towards the covid-19 vaccine among Malaysian adults. Adult Malaysians aged 18 and over were enrolled in a cross-sectional online survey. Google Form was used to deliver an online survey that was used to collect data. The bulk of the 403 responders (90.1%) expressed high acceptance levels for the COVID-19 vaccination. Meanwhile the majority showed low hesitance levels towards covid-19 vaccine with 94.8%. The sociodemographic factors have a correlation with vaccine reluctance. The sociodemographic factors of age (p=0.001), education (p=0.001), occupation (p=0.001), and marital status (p=0.032) all significantly correlated with vaccine hesitation. Non-significant factors include gender (p- 0.097) and monthly income (p-0.210). Parents' knowledge, attitudes, perceptions, and socioeconomic status are potentially significant factors in improving dental treatment. In 2021, parents of ten primary school students in Tripoli participated in a survey of their children during school time. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in ten randomly selected primary schools across Tripoli, the capital of Libya. A total of 293 respondents were approached using a systematic sampling technique. A previously validated and published questionnaire was used with minimal modifications. Knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions were analyzed using a scoring system based on the number of correct or favorable answers provided by parents. According to our results, parents of primary school students exhibited a high knowledge score of 60.4% regarding dental treatment. Approximately 41.7% of participants displayed a positive attitude towards dental treatment, while 40.2% held a negative attitude. Most parents practiced poor oral health care for their children, with 52.2% individuals scoring poorly, indicating that 52.2% had inadequate dental treatment practices. In general, the variables explained a total of 61.6% of the variation in dental treatment. The findings of this study demonstrate the positive impact of knowledge (B=0.192, P-value<0.05), attitude (B=0.339, P-value<0.05), income (B=0.161, P-value<0.05), and education (B=0.134, P-value<0.05) on dental treatment. However, position and perception had an insignificant effect. Respondents varied based on their socioeconomic status, with high education and income respondents differing from those with low education and income. This study highlights the implications and limitations of the research and provides suggestions for future research after the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to numerous psychological problems among healthcare workers, which are directly related to inadequate knowledge, incorrect attitudes, and inadequate perception. Nevertheless, timely interventions and accurate information have the potential to safeguard the mental well-being of healthcare professionals during the novel coronavirus epidemic.","PeriodicalId":38537,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, sarcopenia is not always related to advanced age in chronic kidney disease (CKD) but rather a consequence of accelerated protein catabolism. This study aimed to identify the prevalence of sarcopenia and its associated risk factors in pre-dialysis CKD patients. This cross-sectional study was conducted among 250 pre-dialysis CKD patients aged 18 years or older who attended the outpatient Renal Clinic in a tertiary hospital between  April to November 2019.  It was found that 59.2% of pre-dialysis CKD patients had slow gait speed, 52% had low handgrip strength, and 5.2% had low appendicular skeletal muscle mass index. The prevalence of sarcopenia in the studied group based on AWGS criteria was 5.2%, for which CKD stage 3-5 accounts for 0.4%, 0.8%, and 4% of the prevalence, respectively. Body mass index (AOR: 0.39, 95% CI: 0.166-0.912) and Modified Barthel Index score (AOR: 0.64, 95% CI: 0.470-0.884) were significantly associated with sarcopenia.to conclude, sarcopenia is prevalent in advanced-stage CKD and is related to low body mass index and a lack of functional independence.
