A total of 70 students participated in both pre- and post-surveys and an individual in-depth interview was performed with 4 students who already had experience in education and activities for global citizenship through other channels. \u0000The paired t-test or the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test results showed that a statistically significant change was found only in the practice factor among the 4 domains of global citizenship. The analysis of individual interviews indicated that the students earned the knowledge, skill and attitude factors from other sources or perceived them as something universal. Therefore, little changes in these factors after taking the course can be expected. The results from this study can be used as preliminary evidence for assessing the outcomes of the government supported program whose purpose is to improve global citizenship and the awareness on international development cooperation.","PeriodicalId":382684,"journal":{"name":"Association of Global Studies Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130170020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, Korean teachers tend to belatedly acquire the related expertise of the teaching methodology in Professional Learning Communities(PLC) rather than in teachers’ colleges. \u0000Based on the comparison of the responses of TALIS 2018 from 2,223 Korean teachers and 6,168 Swedish teachers, who have taught in classrooms with migrant students, the effectiveness on 'Preparation for teaching elements teaching in a multicultural or multilingual setting(.057)' and 'Cultural diverse class adapt teaching to cultural diversity of students(.393)' of Swedish teachers were higher than that of Koreans. To this end, this research developed a survey tool consisting of 34 questions in 7 areas and analyzed the collected data from 163 respondents of a national university in the Philippines. Then, the study conducted the t-test, Borich's needs, and The Locus for Focus to derive priorities and support areas for improvement needs. The research results are as follows. First, there is a significant difference between importance and performance in teaching competency, confirming the need for improvement. In particular, it showed high demand in instruction competency related to e-learning and major classes, teaching strategy related to learner participation-centered instruction, strategy on evaluation and feedback, and content knowledge. On the other hand, in terms of the competence for instructional design and analysis and organizational value practice, the difference between importance-performance level and the demand was at the lowest level. This study suggested a specific need for the development of competency for university faculty, which can serve as a basis for understanding the local needs of developing countries and exploring the way for international cooperation in higher education.","PeriodicalId":382684,"journal":{"name":"Association of Global Studies Education","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123747693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Researchers conducted in-depth interviews with Korean studies students across a range of ethnicities and nationalities in 2021. The paper finds that the gap can be reduced in two ways. First, universities can manage the unrealistic expectations about life in Korea created through media portrayals through education and pre-enrollment exposure. Second, universities must increase their commitment to act in loco parentis for international students, who lack the tacit cultural knowledge and social networks to navigate difficulties alone.","PeriodicalId":382684,"journal":{"name":"Association of Global Studies Education","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116116745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Second, the comfort women issue as a reconstruction of historical memory. Third, the comfort women issue as a social practice. Then the challenges and directions for ‘comfort women’ research were presented as follows. First, oral history about the testimony of victims should be studied. Second, ‘comfort women’ discourse, which reproduces confrontation between countries should be overcome. Third, discussion on political responsibility is required in comfort women issue. To get closer to solving ‘comfort women’ issue, further studies on political responsibility of community that tolerated structural injustice and epistemic violence as well as judicial and moral responsibility for direct violence such as war crime, cruel treatment, and violation of women’s rights are also required.","PeriodicalId":382684,"journal":{"name":"Association of Global Studies Education","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130161211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Findings from a survey, interviews, and a focus group show that teachers effective in SEL have higher levels of teacher efficacy and job satisfaction than the national average. Efficacy in teaching appears to be a prerequisite of SEL implementation. Once successfully implemented, the ensuing positive responses from students or colleagues become important sources of job satisfaction and a motivator to continue SEL.","PeriodicalId":382684,"journal":{"name":"Association of Global Studies Education","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125994802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
