The aim of this study is to present an overview of the opinions and habits regarding teleradiology for radiographic studies among veterinarians in France and China. A web-based survey was created and sent to licensed practitioners thanks to two postgraduate veterinary professional associations in these countries. Nineteen questions were developed, with a first group focusing on habits regarding radiography, a second on knowledge and the use of teleradiology, and the last regarding cost. A total of 767 surveys were collected and included in the study. More than half of the practitioners were working in veterinary clinics with more than two practitioners. The Chinese respondents were significantly younger than the French respondents (P 0.05). Almost all veterinarians owned a radiographic device (with digital radiography more prevalent in China and computed radiography in France [P <0.05). A major finding was the fact that most Chinese respondents were not familiar with teleradiology (85%). This study highlights numerous differences regarding general practices, radiographic habits, and the use of teleradiology in these countries, even if this service is not frequently used for radiography at present.

A 10-year-old neutered male shiba inu dog was presented with a suspected ureteral obstruction associated with anorexia, weakness for 48hours and a 3-week history of hyperthermia. Probabilistic broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs were instituted, but a relapse was reported at the end of treatment. The referring vet identified had a suspicion of right ureteral obstruction at the ultrasound. At admission in our institution the physical examination was normal. Abdominal ultrasound revealed a right-sided hydronephrosis and hydroureter secondary to the presence of obstructive ureteroliths. Abdominal radiographic findings and ionised hypercalcaemia were suggestive of calcium oxalates urolithiasis. Superficial cervical ultrasound and an increased plasmatic level of parathyroid hormone confirmed the hypothesis of primary hyperparathyroidism in the context of calcium oxalate lithiasis disease. The dog underwent a right-sided ureterotomy with retrograde placement of a ureteral stent and ultrasound-guided ethanolisation of the parathyroid nodule. Subsequent normalisation of ionized calcaemia was observed. This case is an interesting illustration of the presence of a primary disease responsible for calcium oxalate urolithiasis in dogs.

","PeriodicalId":38077,"journal":{"name":"Revue Veterinaire Clinique","volume":"58 3","pages":"Pages 96-102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45433078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study describes the clinical presentation, ultrasonography, histopathology and outcome of local surgical excision of five cases of uveal melanocytomas in dogs. The age of diseased dogs ranged between 4 and 9 years and their breeds included Rottweiler (n =1) and Labrador retriever (n =3 dogs) or two masses (n two dogs) with corneal edema, keratitis, lateral iris separation, completely obliterated pupil, impaired vision and cataract. Transcorneal ultrasonography of the eyes with uveal melanocytoma revealed a hypoechoic mass filling the anterior chamber with thickened hypoechoic iris and early cataractous changes. The vitreous body was completely anechoic and filled with echogenic endovitreal echoes as well as hypoechoic organized bleeding. Histopathology revealed heavy neoplastic melanocytic proliferation with severe hemorrhages and different sized neoplastic cells with intense melanin pigment. Local surgical excision (LSE) was a successful ablative procedure with minimal complications and saving the animal's eye. In conclusion, uveal melanocytoma should be suspected in cases with change in colour and/or shape of the iris. Both ultrasonography and histopathology are helpful diagnostic tools and local surgical excision is a successful ablative procedure with minimal complications and saving the animal's eye.
