{"title":"Cats in Tunisia, a big gap of knowledge","authors":"","doi":"10.1016/j.anicom.2024.05.008","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.anicom.2024.05.008","url":null,"abstract":"<div><p>Cats<span> are present in North Africa since several centuries, they are well appreciated as companion animals in all social categories. Despite this status, compared to the other domestic Tunisian animal species few peer-reviewed studies were published on cats in Tunisia. There is a huge lack of knowledge concerning different aspects of both cats’ breeding and health, including Tunisian cat demography, percentage of vaccinated cats, dominant cats’ diseases… The authors present a review on Tunisian cats’ breeding and health and concluding that a lot of efforts are requested at different levels to improve both the knowledge about breeding and health status of Tunisian cats.</span></p></div><div><p>Les chats sont présents en Afrique du Nord depuis plusieurs siècles, ils sont très appréciés comme animaux de compagnie dans toutes les catégories sociales. Malgré ce statut, comparativement aux autres espèces, très peu d’études réalisées par des pairs ont été publiées sur les chats en Tunisie. {"title":"Sténose nasopharyngée caudale traitée par dilatation par ballonnet en aveugle chez un chat","authors":"","doi":"10.1016/j.anicom.2024.05.007","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.anicom.2024.05.007","url":null,"abstract":"<div><p>Ce rapport décrit le cas d’un chat de 9 mois présentant des signes respiratoires chroniques dont un stertor ne répondant pas aux traitements antibiotiques et anti-inflammatoires dans un contexte de syndrome coryza objectivé à l’adoption. Une sténose nasopharyngée caudale est diagnostiquée sur la base d’un examen tomodensitométrique et confirmée par pharyngoscopie. Le traitement consiste en la réalisation d’une dilatation par ballonnet à l’aveugle ayant permis une résolution transitoire des signes cliniques au bout de 10<!--> <!-->jours. Une seconde procédure similaire est réalisée dans ce contexte conduisant à la normalisation complète de l’état du chat deux mois après la prise en charge. De bon pronostic à long terme malgré de fréquentes récidives, des interventions multiples sont souvent nécessaires, associées parfois à la pose d’endoprothèses bien que limitée en région caudale. Ce cas suggère qu’une approche simplifiée réalisée à l’aveugle est envisageable dans des cas de sténoses nasopharyngées caudales dont l’endoscopie ne permet pas une visualisation correcte avec un taux de succès plutôt similaire aux procédures de dilatations réalisées sous contrôle endoscopique et fluoroscopique.</p></div><div><p>This report describes the case of a 9-month-old cat presenting with chronic respiratory signs including a stertor that did not respond to antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment in the context of a coryza syndrome diagnosed at adoption. Caudal nasopharyngeal stenosis was diagnosed on the basis of a CT scan and confirmed by pharyngoscopy. Treatment consisted of blind balloon dilatation, with transient resolution of clinical signs after 10 days. A second similar procedure was carried out in this context, leading to complete normalisation of the cat's condition two months after treatment. With a good long-term prognosis despite frequent recurrences, multiple operations are often necessary, sometimes combined with stenting, although limited to the caudal region. {"title":"Dégénérescence vitréenne périphérique précoce chez le petit lévrier italien : résultats des examens chez 27 chiens apparentés","authors":"","doi":"10.1016/j.anicom.2024.07.001","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.anicom.2024.07.001","url":null,"abstract":"<div><p>Vingt-sept petits lévriers italiens (15 femelles et 12 mâles) âgés de 11 mois à 7,5 ans ont subi un examen oculaire complet, 5 chiens ayant bénéficié d’un suivi sur une période de 3 ans. À l’examen initial ou unique, aucun ne présentait d’anomalie de l’angle irido-cornéen. Le vitré périphérique était dégénératif chez 23 chiens (12 femelles et 11 mâles), parmi lesquels 10 femelles et 7 mâles présentaient des floculats vitréens uni- ou bilatéraux en chambre antérieure : chez ces derniers, 4 femelles et 2 mâles avaient une PIO supérieure à 20<!--> <!-->mm<!--> <!-->Hg. Deux des chiens suivis ont présenté un glaucome unilatéral. L’association vitré dégénératif – vitré en chambre antérieure était présente chez 63 % de l’effectif examiné constitué de chiens apparentés. Les chiens affectés et non affectés testés pour la mutation ADAMTS17 associée à la luxation primaire du cristallin étaient homozygotes sains. Chez le petit lévrier italien, cette description de dégénérescence vitréenne précoce confirme celles de la littérature, une prédisposition familiale pouvant être suggérée par cette étude, qui n’est pas en faveur d’une possible implication de la dégénérescence vitréenne dans l’apparition de glaucome ou d’une cataracte.</p></div><div><p>Twenty-seven Italian greyhounds (15 females and 12 males), aged from 11 months to 7.5 years, underwent a complete ocular examination; 5 of them have been regularly controlled during a 3 years period. No iridocorneal angle anomaly was observed at the initial or unique examination. The peripheral vitreous was degenerative in 23 dogs (12 females and 11 males) with 10 females and 7 males exhibiting bi- or unilateral vitreous prolapse in the anterior chamber: among these dogs, the intraocular pressure was over 20<!--> <!-->mm<!--> <!-->Hg in 4 females and 2 males; 2 of the 5 re-examined dogs presented a unilateral glaucoma within the 3 years period. The association vitreous degeneration – vitreous prolapse in the anterior chamber was reported in 63% of the related dogs that underwent examination. Affected and non-affected dogs were clear for the ADAMTS17 mutation associated to primary lens luxation when assessed. {"title":"Masse cervicale ventrale droite chez un chat","authors":"","doi":"10.1016/j.anicom.2024.07.002","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.anicom.2024.07.002","url":null,"abstract":"<div><p>Un chat Bengal mâle castré de onze ans est présenté en consultation à la suite de l’apparition d’une masse cervicale ventrale droite associée à un syndrome de Claude Bernard-Horner ipsilatéral et répondant partiellement à des injections de corticoïdes et d’antibiotiques. La première analyse histologique est en faveur d’une inflammation granulomateuse et la seconde en faveur d’un lymphome malin de grade incertain. Le bilan d’extension ainsi que les analyses histologiques orientent le diagnostic vers un lymphome atypique de type Hodgkin-like. Une polychimiothérapie et une exérèse chirurgicale permettent d’obtenir une rémission clinique complète deux mois après le début de la prise en charge. L’analyse histologique en postopératoire est en faveur d’une population mixte pyogranulomateuse et lymphoïde. Le lymphome hodgkinien est un lymphome atypique peu décrit en médecine vétérinaire qui se développe généralement dans un seul nœud lymphatique ou une chaîne de nœuds lymphatiques. Celui-ci est souvent indolent et est parfois curable. Les objectifs sont de faire un état des lieux à travers ce cas des connaissances actuelles sur le lymphome hodgkinien chez le chat en comparaison avec les connaissances en cancérologie humaine.</p></div><div><p>An eleven-year-old neutered male Bengal cat presented for a right ventral cervical mass associated with ipsilateral Horner syndrome, partially responsive to corticosteroid and antibiotic injections. The first histological analysis was in favour of granulomatous inflammation and the second in favour of a malignant lymphoma of uncertain grade. The extension work-up and histological analyses suggested an atypical Hodgkin-like lymphoma. Chemotherapy and surgical excision resulted in complete clinical remission two months after initiation of treatment. Post-operative histological analysis was consistent with a mixed pyogranulomatous and lymphoid population. Hodgkin lymphoma is an atypical lymphoma that is rarely described in veterinary medicine. It generally develops in a single lymph node or a chain of lymph nodes, is often indolent in nature and is often curable. The patient had a history of apathy, hyporexia, polydipsia, increased rectal temperature, decreased body condition score, muffled cardiac auscultation, hypoglycemia and hepatomegaly. The dog developed cardiorespiratory arrest on the same day and was subsequently referred for post-mortem examination. In the necropsy, the macroscopic evaluation hepatopathy with the liver in the aspect of “nutmeg”, scrotal sac with abrasions, and the presence of a nodular lesion in the testes. Histopathology confirmed a diagnosis of testicular seminoma with liver metastasis. Testes are the third most common localization for dog tumors. However, metastasis of seminoma is uncommon.
