The validation of the PSWQ-C in Poland was conducted through two studies. Study 1 examined the initial factor structure, internal consistency, and construct validity of the PSWQ-C in two samples of school students (N = 819) aged 8–19 years (M = 14.63, SD = 3.09). Study 2 involved 620 participants aged 8–19 years (M = 14.35, SD = 3.42). We conducted Confirmatory Factor Analysis to compare the initial factor structure with different models mentioned in the literature. The results suggest that the scale has good psychometric properties, including good reliability and acceptable validity. The factor structure that showed the best fit to the data consisted of one general worry factor and two method factors representing wording effects. This study is part of a broader discussion on the factor structure of the PSWQ-C. The results suggest that the questionnaire is homogeneous and measures one latent variable, worry, despite a bifactorial model being the best fit for the data. The two sub-factors do not have any psychological meaning (“non-worrying”), but are only an effect related to the positive or negative wording of the scale’s statements.","PeriodicalId":38005,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Psychologiczne","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141669133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results are based on a verbal test derived from the Woodcock-Johnson Cognitive Ability Test (WJ IV COG), which was processed using item analysis according to the Rasch model. The main results are based on analysing the differential function of individual items within the verbal tests within the research group (N = 399) compared to the normative sample of the Czech population (N = 936). A secondary goal is to compare Romani children originating from socially excluded areas (N = 204) with those from non-excluded areas (N = 195). Regarding item comparisons between the majority and sample groups, they reveal significant disparities in 14 items (70%) of the Synonyms subtest and 9 items (45%) of the Antonyms subtest. The results highlight the crucial role of a more limited vocabulary, particularly in formal linguistic expressions by Romani children. The presented words representing differently functioning items can also serve as a basis for linguistic analysis and can be applied in assessing educational needs. When comparing the group of children based on their residence in a socially excluded locality, significant differences in the DIF were identified for one item from the Synonyms subtest and three items from the Antonyms subtest.","PeriodicalId":38005,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Psychologiczne","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140997136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ASI-R is a widely used tool for measuring appearance schemas, but it is currently not available in Polish. The adaptation of the ASI-R has the potential to fill this gap and encourage research in the Polish community. The validation of the scale was conducted on two separate samples of healthy adults. Although the results indicate that the Polish version of the scale, in contrast to the original one, exhibits a one-factor structure, its psychometric properties are robust. The scale demonstrates high internal consistency and sound construct validity, established through correlations with various aspects of psychosocial functioning, along with body image and sociocultural attitudes toward appearance. The scale seems to be gender-invariant and can be utilized in future studies that adopt a cognitive-behavioral approach to appearance schemas.","PeriodicalId":38005,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Psychologiczne","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140719195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample contained 232 individuals. The aim was to study emotional experiences and their connection with coping strategies in the context of gender differences. The research was based on the concept of differential emotions, and on the understanding of the accumulation strategies as a dynamic process, which is determined by personal prepositions and situational factors. Measures used in the study were the Differential Emotions Scale and the Ways of Coping Questionnaire. The growth of negative experiences and stress at the beginning of the pandemic among men and women was confirmed. We described the differences regarding emotions and coping strategies. Women use emotion-focused strategies of social support, strategies of positive reappraisal of the situation, and avoidance, the acceptance of responsibility among women is associated with negative emotions. We found that women more frequently use two or more coping strategies compared to men. A different emotional basis of coping strategies, expressed at high levels of tension among men and women, was revealed. The defined features of coping behavior among men and women may help to determine the main goals for the development of preventive and psychotherapeutic interventions.","PeriodicalId":38005,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Psychologiczne","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140716676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The efficiency of goal realization in these two areas of activity varies and may depend on balance between the two domains. The study aimed to answer the question of how interplays between the work and family domains (work-to-family conflict, family-to-work conflict, work-to-family facilitation, and family-to-work facilitation) were related to the realization of work and family goals in entrepreneurs. It also tested if sex was a moderator of these relationships. A total of 246 entrepreneurs participated in the study; they were married or in stable non-marital relationships. Structural equation modeling showed that family-to-work conflict is negatively related to work goal realization and family goal realization, and work-to-family facilitation is positively related to family goal realization. Sex does not moderate the relationships analyzed. The study provides insight into the relationships of conflict and facilitation to goal realization in people running their businesses.","PeriodicalId":38005,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Psychologiczne","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140716592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed that soloists (n = 59) not only were higher on narcissism, but also had higher self-efficacy scores than musicians who perform in ensembles (n = 65). However, soloist and band players are not different in narcissism and self-efficacy when the other trait is controlled, which indicates that common features of both traits differentiate solo and band musicians. Results raise further questions on what factors affect the development of a musician’s career path.","PeriodicalId":38005,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Psychologiczne","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140717123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The TPUI is an instrument that allows the measurement of problematic Internet use. Problematic Internet use is defined as “excessive involvement in the use of certain Internet applications (mainly related to interactivity) with clear features of addictive behaviour, causing psychological, social and health problems” (Poprawa, 2011a, p. 217). The TPUI was subjected to psychometric verification in research involving 178 students with mild intellectual disability. Considering the diverse aetiology of intellectual disability, adolescents diagnosed with a genetic syndrome and adolescents with multiple disabilities were excluded from the study. Firstly, the analysis focused on descriptive statistics and distribution. Subsequently, exploratory, reliability and confirmatory analyses were applied. Finally, instrument standardisation was performed. The preliminary results lead to the conclusion that the Test of Problematic Using of the Internet is probably an instrument allowing a reliable and accurate measurement of problematic use of the Internet among adolescents with mild intellectual disability. Confirmation of these conclusions requires conducting further analyses on a sufficiently large group of students.","PeriodicalId":38005,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Psychologiczne","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139868574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two qualitative tools have been elaborated: the Structured Critical Life Events Interview and the Coding System for Personality Development. They were empirically verified in a preliminary longitudinal mixed methods study (N = 40 participants, n = 1440 narratives) with three measurements in one year referring to the Transition Cycle (Hopson & Adams, 1976). For assessing reliability the Intraclass Correlation Co-efficient (ICC) and Cronbach’s α were assessed. The convergent validity of the tools was deter¬mined by correlating the results with (1) linguistic structure of participants’ verbalizations and (2) the questionnaires measuring similar behaviours and features. The research showed good psycho-metric properties of the tools. Moreover, they better identified personality growth and the specific dynamics of personality changes (positive and negative) than the Post-traumatic Growth Inventory (Tedeschi & Calhoun, 1996).","PeriodicalId":38005,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Psychologiczne","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139685855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cyberpsychology is described in the article as a transdiscipline in the context of (new) media studies and media cultural studies. It has been also presented as a sub-discipline of media psychology and communication. Cyberpsychology represents “media-user based approaches”, because research on main types of media is conducted in relation to their impact on human behaviour. The features of new media, the transition to the interactive network media paradigm and immersive technological environments in the 1980s and 1990s require the use of psychological methods by media experts. Cyberpsychologists, on the other hand, are obliged to use media-based approaches in their research. Within the framework of cyberpsychology focused on the study of digital media user, the mainstream of theoretical and applied research has been distinguished. Its links with other sub-disciplines of psychology and the relevant direction of contemporary research on digital media and cyberculture 3.0 have been indicated.","PeriodicalId":38005,"journal":{"name":"Roczniki Psychologiczne","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139620434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
