In this paper, a non-invasive technique is adopted for estimating the heart rate of a subject while he is watching 3D contents, as a first step towards the ultimate goal of relating heart rate variations to the quality perceived by the observer in order to provide an effective tool for automatically evaluating the Quality of Experience. In order to validate the proposed approach, subjective tests have been performed and the achieved results are promising thus pushing to further investigate the correlation between emotions and the performed heart rate estimation.","PeriodicalId":378956,"journal":{"name":"2016 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127619037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The architecture is based on layered-depth-image (LDI) and supports the real-time rendering of multiple views for multi-view 3D displays. We also present a prototype implementation of the proposed architecture in OpenCL, and discuss experimental results. The results indicate that the proposed approach leads to better results than other state-of-art graphics architecture for multimedia application.","PeriodicalId":378956,"journal":{"name":"2016 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129920440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The encoding is predictive, where one sparse predictor is designed for every region of a view, using as regressors the pixels from the already transmitted views. As a first step, consistent segmentations for all subaperture images are constructed, defining the regions as connected components in the quantized depth map of the central view, and then propagating them to all side views. The sparse predictors are able to take into account the small horizontal and vertical disparities between regions in corresponding close-by views and perform optimal least squares interpolation accounting implicitly for fractional disparities. The optimal structure of the sparse predictor is selected for each region based on an implementable description length. The encoding of the views is done sequentially starting from the central view and the scheme produces results better than standard lossless compression methods utilized directly on the full lightfield image or applied to the views in a similar sequential order as our method.","PeriodicalId":378956,"journal":{"name":"2016 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122238136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pixelation process is assumed to occur in free space. The z component is computed in the Fourier domain by using Gauss's Law from the x and y components of the output electric field. The effect of the display parameters are discussed for a y polarized display in a phase only operation. It is found that, in the low frequency regions, the size of the region of the large magnitudes becomes smaller as the width of the active region increases. Moreover, the validity of the scalar theory for a single pixel is evaluated for varying pixel sizes. It is shown that, when the ratio of the width of the active region to wavelength is between 1.5 and 5, the error decays with oscillations between 43% and 5%. When that ratio is larger than 15, the error does not exceed 3%.","PeriodicalId":378956,"journal":{"name":"2016 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122804560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Viewing environment and viewing experience change compared to that of traditional stereoscopic content so that previous subjective methodology for stereoscopic content cannot be directly applied to SMV content. A new subjective assessment methodology is proposed in this paper. In the methodology, we firstly create a stereo video pair along a sweeping pathway which simulates the trajectory of supposed head movement during viewing SMV content. Then, the created stereo video pair can be displayed on traditional stereoscopic monitor and evaluated by general subjective assessment methodologies for stereoscopic videos. This methodology conforms to the normal viewing condition of SMV content. A subjective experiment was conducted to use the proposed methodology to evaluate the performance of compression technology. The experimental results are reasonable and can discriminate two different codecs.","PeriodicalId":378956,"journal":{"name":"2016 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114754537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed scheme contains two upsampling stages; one is self-similarity matching (SSM), and the other is predictive linear upsampling (PLU). SSM accelerates cost volume filtering by using a variant of joint bilateral upsampling, which utilizes high-dimensional vectors, which is neighborhoods of an RGB image and a depth map. The high-dimensional upsampling suppresses edge blurring and scattering problems. PLU generates smooth surfaces with keeping edges guided by the results of SSM. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme has higher accuracy than the state-of-the-art upsampling. Additionally, the proposed method has real-time performance on a multi-core CPU.","PeriodicalId":378956,"journal":{"name":"2016 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124980199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The input cameras are placed on a circle and we create a large number of novel virtual viewpoints on that circle. Next, we choose a position within that circle and compute the omnidirectional image that is visible from that position by considering the collection of virtual images as a light field. The corresponding pixels in the virtual images are selected by tracing rays from the desired viewing position. Changing your position inside the circle, results in an adapted view-dependent rendering. This creates a free viewpoint 3D VR experience. We demonstrate our method using the game engine Unity combined with the Oculus Rift.","PeriodicalId":378956,"journal":{"name":"2016 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133879130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To evaluate calibration of cameras in two-dimensional ar-rays, assessments need to be made on two-dimensional datasets with constraints on camera parameters. In this study, accuracy of several multi-camera calibration methods has been evaluated on camera parameters that are affecting view projection the most. As input data, we used a 15-viewpoint two-dimensional dataset with intrinsic and extrinsic parameter constraints and extrinsic ground truth. The assessment showed that self-calibration methods using structure-from-motion reach equal intrinsic and extrinsic parameter estimation accuracy with standard checkerboard calibration algorithm, and surpass a well-known self-calibration toolbox, BlueCCal. These results show that self-calibration is a viable approach to calibrating two-dimensional camera arrays, but improvements to state-of-art multi-camera feature matching are necessary to make BlueCCal as accurate as other self-calibration methods for two-dimensional camera arrays.","PeriodicalId":378956,"journal":{"name":"2016 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129614149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several technical challenges in producing a high-quality synthesized view such as warping, blending, ghost artifact reduction and hole filling. Four tools (techniques) have been proposed in this paper to solve these problems. They are unreliable region extraction, fast backward warping, adaptive blending, and hole filling by using the constructed background models. Other techniques such as disocclusion detection, bicubic interpolation, and background model construction are also employed in the proposed algorithm. All above techniques have been designed and tested on the MPEG test sequences. Experimental results show that high-quality virtual views are generated with fewer artifacts.","PeriodicalId":378956,"journal":{"name":"2016 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129926275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper studies the problem of creating self-contained (i.e., independently decodable) partitions in the HEVC streams. Further, the requirements for building self-contained regions are described, and an encoder-side solution is proposed based on HEVC tile feature. A particular application of self-contained tiles targets the type of light-field 3D displays, which employ a dense set of optical engines to recreate the light field. Correspondingly, such 3D displays require a dense set of input views and therefore the partial decoding of bitstreams helps providing less complex and consequently real-time decoding and processing. The simulation results show a significant increase in decoding speed at the cost of a minor increase in storage capacity.","PeriodicalId":378956,"journal":{"name":"2016 3DTV-Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130638664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
