Abstract
Super multi-view (SMV) content has a vast number of dense views and large viewing range. Viewing environment and viewing experience change compared to that of traditional stereoscopic content so that previous subjective methodology for stereoscopic content cannot be directly applied to SMV content. A new subjective assessment methodology is proposed in this paper. In the methodology, we firstly create a stereo video pair along a sweeping pathway which simulates the trajectory of supposed head movement during viewing SMV content. Then, the created stereo video pair can be displayed on traditional stereoscopic monitor and evaluated by general subjective assessment methodologies for stereoscopic videos. This methodology conforms to the normal viewing condition of SMV content. A subjective experiment was conducted to use the proposed methodology to evaluate the performance of compression technology. The experimental results are reasonable and can discriminate two different codecs.
