This study shows that in traditional media texts, the moral panic against K-pop is constructed through the discursive mechanisms of scapegoating, creating fear, stigmatizing, and labeling. Three discursive sub-themes create anti-K-pop discourse within the traditional media texts: K-pop as an epidemic, a threat against hegemonic masculinity, and as a new religion. In addition, the result of a hashtag campaign that feeds the anti-K-pop discourse produced in traditional media texts is discussed. These tweets collected by Nvivo 12 under the #banKpop from June 17 to 21, 2020 have been analyzed via thematic content analysis. The analysis shows that the anti-K-pop discourse is based on cultural essentialism, a homogenizing approach to Islam, homophobia, and transphobia. This research also finds out that trolling the #banKpop campaign by K-pop fans is a successful example of K-pop activism in Turkey.","PeriodicalId":377576,"journal":{"name":"Moment Journal","volume":"260 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122368065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The social and cultural field of the city by its central role on mobility was as dynamic as its economy throughout that era. Halls and open-air cinema venues were at the centre of the social and cultural life especially in the 1960–1980 period. There were almost 110 cinema venues in the city during this time. However just as the collapse in the local economy, the financial structure of the film industry in Adana region had been weakened and a fall had begun by the late 1970’s. In the following years with the transformation of the urban space, cinema venues became obsolete. Apart from the cinema complexes that survive today, there left only ruins of more than a hundred cinema venues. The loss of movie theaters to this extent compels a loss in the memory of the city. The aim of this study is to search for the locations of cinema venues that had operated in Adana since the early 1900’s and to map these through the geographical information system. Geographical location data of almost 125 cinema venues starting from 1900 compiled from the local film bulletins and newspapers, archives, and by the oral history gathered especially from the employees of the cinema venues, and the neighbourhood witnesses, and by a Datathon workshop. Consequently, this data is transferred into a digital map through the ArcGIS Desktop geographic information system, thus a digital map for new inquiries is exported.","PeriodicalId":377576,"journal":{"name":"Moment Journal","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122449668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a marginalised yet increasingly visible subculture, danmei writing has attracted legions of female producers/consumers, who are (self-)referred to as ‘rotten girls’. The female-oriented fiction is overwhelmingly marked by a conspicuous dichotomy differentiating seme (top) from uke (bottom) roles, and a prodigious amount of narratives concern feminisation of uke characters, motivated by the prevailing ‘soft masculinity’. Nonetheless, readers also delight in a subcategory of danmei featured by shaonu gong ‘maiden/adolescent-girl seme’ manifesting epicene demeanour and conducting sajiao which denotes playing cute/winsome/petulant or performing pettishness/coquettish. The sajiao acts of semes indicate authorial personae and the ‘cuteness’ youth culture, especially the ‘paradoxical cuteness’ integrating masculinity and femininity as well as cross-dressing and cross-gender performance. Furthermore, seme characterisation entailing enfeebled virility enables female readers to challenge heteropatriarchal and heteronormative zeitgeist, and it mitigates women’s dread and anxiety concerning sexual violence, exploitation, and oppression in real-world contexts.","PeriodicalId":377576,"journal":{"name":"Moment Journal","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122588357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Populist radical right leaders claim to protect “pure people” (a category that they define, in contradistinction to elites) against “threats” stemming from migration and globalization. Their political style is designed to show that they are cut out for such a “protective” role; therefore, it is based on gendered performances and discourses. Performances of hegemonic masculinity play a central role in determining this style. Yet, it is not only men who embrace such performances. Focusing on the political styles and performances of female leaders provides a fertile ground to discuss the centrality of gender to the populist radical right. Keeping in mind the dynamism of the concepts of hegemonic masculinity and femininity, this study investigates Marine Le Pen’s (the leader of France’s Rassemblement National) political style and performance through a gender perspective.","PeriodicalId":377576,"journal":{"name":"Moment Journal","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122499831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to being the main reason that keeps the rating and show business alive, especially considering sexual identity, it is an element that is considered in the editing process. One of the areas where this is reflected is music. Looking at the clips of the last period, the element that draws more attention than the song is the eroticism presented by the singer. Pop music singers, from their album covers to their clips, use their bodies as an element of their work and the dance they accompany, in the transformational process influenced by and influenced by popular culture. Although different identity patterns seem to be diverse, production is based on same logic. Therefore, the clips attain a populist structure consisting of music that presents the female and male bodies as sexually identified and constantly emphasizes the concept of gender. In this context, the study aims to analyze body use with the semiotic method through samples of pop music clips. In the process of commodifying the body with music, as a result of the analysis divided into male and female body categories in the clips, it was established that the view of men and women differs by gender roles.","PeriodicalId":377576,"journal":{"name":"Moment Journal","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128526769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This area of power, as Foucault argues, has an \"everywhere\" feature within it. In this context, the privileges given to masculinity by the patriarchal social structure exist by including such hegemony of power in forms of masculinity. All forms of gender that fight against forms of masculinity in fact represent resistance to such power. In this study, the ubiquity of hegemonic masculinity’s power was examined through the films Kelebekler (Tolga Karacelik, 2018) and Bizi Hatirla (Cagan Irmak, 2018) within the framework of the conception of power of Michel Foucault, who is one of the most important thinkers of the contemporary French philosophy. The study analyses the confrontation between secular and religious life that religious men experience in their everyday life by examining the data obtained via field study. Religious belief is a significant part of the everyday life of a religious man. According to Islam, the life of a Muslim man is divided into five parts and hours of prayer designate these divisions: dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset and night prayers. Men who grew up in a religious family are acquainted with this division and they are accustomed to it by the daily religious practices of their families.
