However, most of the current clustering algorithms usually only take one of the aspects into consideration. In the first stage, an adaptive DBSCAN is proposed to automatically detect the uncommon load curves and obtain the TLP of each individual customer. In the second stage, LPC is formulated as an optimization problem in which clustering validity index (CVI) considering both compactness and separation is used as the objective function. Gravitational search algorithm (GSA) is adopted to solve this optimization problem. Four different CVIs are investigated to find the most appropriate one for LPC. A comparative case study using the real load data from 208 households from the U.K. verified the effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"6 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128563280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To maintain the level of power quality, the control algorithm should have capability of rejecting the disturbances. The controller plays a vital role in minimizing the error for the generation of reference current. This paper presents the application of fractional order $PI^{lambda}D^{mu}$ controller for power quality improvement in electric power distribution system. Genetic algorithm is used for tuning the control parameters of fractional order $PI^{lambda}D^{mu}$ controller. The performance of controller is tested using non-stationary load conditions. To validate the effectiveness of fractional $PI^{lambda}D^{mu}$ controller, its dynamic response, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), complexity and design parameters are compared with integer based controller and fuzzy logic controller. Historical wind speed data, representing the Chester region of Nova Scotia, Canada, from 2012 to 2017, was used to operate this model. The form structure is defined by the rows p, d, q, and the length of the data period retrospectively. The structure parameters, autoregressive and moving average, were determined by the partial auto-correlation function and auto-correlation function, respectively. The model forecasting accuracy is based on the root mean square error, the mean absolute percentage error and the mean absolute error.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131225607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Initially this arrangement was used for laboratory-scale experiments for modelling lightning attachment and then it was found a useful way of the investigation of industrial technologies applying corona discharge. In the paper, we are focusing on the properties of the corona in electrostatic precipitators. Laboratory measurements and numerical calculations were made to evaluate the modification of voltage-current characteristics related to the initial condition in different modes of operation and predict the effect of the change of certain parameters. For the reliable comparison, a reference arrangement was constructed to handle the uncertainty caused by the presence of dust particles and dust layer in point-plate and wire-plate electrode arrangements.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129978605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, solar energy strictly requires high gain DC-DC converter for the regulation purpose. To meet the requirement, two coupled inductor based DC-DC converters are proposed in this paper. These coupled inductor utilizes the two winding coupled inductor which is cost and size effective as compared to three winding coupled inductor. The first converter is a combination of a switched inductor and coupled inductor which is named as switched inductor based coupled inductor converter while other is a combination of switched inductor/capacitor and coupled inductor and hence named as switched inductor/capacitor based coupled inductor converter. The operation and steady analysis of these converters are elaborated. A comparative analysis is also presented to validate the potential of the proposed converters. Finally, these converters are simulated in PSIM 11.0 to demonstrate the suitability.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129991358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, existing literature does not study them holistically, combining technology with economy. In this paper, we first examine complimentary nature of these two technologies in a New York State college. Then, we establish an econometric model to study impacts on BEV demands due to renewables and five other socioeconomic factors, using 2010–2016 panel data from eleven countries. After multi-linear regressions, we observe that renewables impact BEV demands positively; i.e., one percent increment in renewables would yield 2% increment in BEV demands per 100 thousand people. High gasoline prices may lead to high BEV demands. The number of chargers impacts BEV demands positively. Population density does impact BEV demands positively, as well as education levels. The elasticity for GDP per capita is larger than one. Finally, we make recommendations to decision makers to synergistically promote renewables and BEVs. Planners should properly select locations encompassing renewables, chargers, parking facilities, highway rest areas, shopping centers and community activity centers.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"142 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129243717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the reactor, NO is firstly oxidized to NO<inf>2</inf> by air plasma, and then NO<inf>2</inf> and SO<inf>2</inf> are absorbed into a water film on the inner wall of the reactor. The wastewater absorbing NO<inf>2</inf> and SO<inf>2</inf> must be treated before drain. In particular, nitrogen compound such as nitrate ion <tex>$(mathbf{NO}_{mathbf{3}}^{-})$</tex> and nitrite ion <tex>$(mathbf{NO}_{mathbf{2}}^{-})$</tex> are harmful. Therefore, the wastewater is treated by argon (Ar) plasma to remove <tex>$mathbf{NO}_{mathbf{3}}^{-}$</tex> and <tex>$mathbf{NO}_{mathbf{2}}^{-}$</tex>. As a result, more than 98% of NO and SO<inf>2</inf> were removed in the air plasma. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that <tex>$mathrm{NO}_{3}^{-}$</tex> and <tex>$mathbf{NO}_{mathbf{2}}^{-}$</tex> in the wastewater were decreased by Ar plasma. From these results, it is confirmed that this wet-type discharge plasma reactor is useful for the simultaneous removal of NO<inf>x</inf> and SO<inf>x</inf>.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130364087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Carbon dioxide (C02) is main substances for global warming and its emission should be reduced. One of the promising technologies is the conversion of CO2 to CO by plasma treatment, so that CO itself or its conversion to methane can be used as fuel for combustion engines. In this study, CO2 dissociation or reduction treatment system using an adsorbent and nonthermal plasma (NTP) flow is investigated. In this study, in order to improve the conversion efficiency, the conversion efficiency for Ar or He plasma is evaluated. In physical adsorption process, approximately 10% CO2 gas with a flow rate of 10 L/min is prepared, and then it is introduced into the flow channel and CO2 is adsorbed by the adsorbent. After the adsorption process the circulation flow channel is set and then the Ar or He plasma flow is generated with a blower. As a result, the CO2 adsorbed by the adsorbent is desorbed with CO2 concentration of 20 and 23 % by Ar or He plasma flow, respectively. More than 10 % of the conversion energy efficiency of desorbed CO2 to CO is obtained with plasma power of 300 W.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130514065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the operation mechanism of controllable excitation linear synchronous motor, the voltage equation, flux equation, magnetic levitation force equation and state equation of controllable excitation linear synchronous motor are established. The sliding mode surface is designed, and the integral term is introduced to eliminate the steady-state error of the system. The reaching law is designed to reduce chattering by using saturation function instead of sign function. Fuzzy logic reasoning is used to estimate the switching gain, to cancel the unknown disturbance and further weaken the chattering of the system. The sliding mode controller based on fuzzy switching gain adjustment is designed, and the system is simulated in MATLAB environment. The simulation results show that the fuzzy sliding mode control algorithm can improve the dynamic performance of the system and weaken chattering. The feasibility of this algorithm is proved.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124790259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Historically, utilities conduct pilot CVR projects on a limited number of feeders where the time-series (TS) voltage and power data are measured, preprocessed and utilized in a mathematical model for energy saving calculation for each individual CVR deployed feeder. The challenge is establishing energy savings in large-scale projects where CVR is running on thousands of feeders and feeder by feeder data processing and savings analysis could be cumbersome. This paper proposes a methodology to estimate system-wide energy savings by creating sub-clusters of the CVR feeders. Initially, a combined approach based on random sampling and K-means clustering is introduced to determine the representative sample feeders required to perform CVR out of a large feeder population. Following the results of the proposed clustering approach, a mapping technique based on Euclidian distance methodology is developed to link each non-sample feeder to a sample feeder and create sub-clusters of non-sample feeders. In addition, the proposed methodology benefits from a developed extrapolation algorithm where savings of the sample feeders are estimated even though the CVR data is unavailable during some periods of the analysis. Next, energy savings of sample feeders are utilized to estimate the energy savings of the non-sample feeders, and eventually, to estimate the energy savings of the entire sub-clusters. Finally, the total system-wide energy savings is calculated by summing up the energy savings of all the sub-clusters. The proposed approach is tested using real field data from a large-scale CVR program within a utility service territory.","PeriodicalId":376719,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125789446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
