Agnieszka Duewska's publication, Understanding literary texts by students with hearing impairment presents, in a multi-faceted way, issues related to language and its role in cognition, as well as shows the difficulties faced by students with profound and severe hearing impairment during the process of understanding the read text. Often, a low level of language competences contributes to many negative consequences, which include not only marginalization, but also less opportunities for development and life satisfaction. This book, in the light of the research conducted so far, presents a new perspective, therefore it is worth getting acquainted with it more closely.","PeriodicalId":371798,"journal":{"name":"Special School","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129607196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If it is accompanied by other disorders, learning problems become more severe. The purpose of the study was to assess the functioning of a visually impaired child with Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) in the school environment and describe the learning difficulties that the child experiences, as well as to indicate, on their basis, proposals for actions (tailored to the needs and capabilities of the pupil) that can be taken to eliminate or reduce them. The leading method in the research was the individual case method. In addition, the dialogue method and document analysis were used. The technique of direct, participant, individual observation was used, which was carried out three times and was aimed at gathering information about the child's educational difficulties and the behaviours the child exhibits in uncomfortable situations. The technique of content analysis of written documents was also used. The results of the study revealed many school difficulties faced by a visually impaired child with FAS. Based on the results of the study, suggestions for working with a child exhibiting these disorders, which facilitate learning and improve the course of the learning and teaching process, were indicated.","PeriodicalId":371798,"journal":{"name":"Special School","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125255656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research was carried out using a questionnaire addressed to mothers of people with Down syndrome. Open-ended questions allowed for entering into the study group, obtaining information on individual life stories of families whose members are people with Down syndrome. The survey analyses enabled us to state whether the respondents are affected by transferred stigma or they perceive their social role as tough motherhood and whether they receive any support in upbringing and taking care of a person with intellectual disability from their immediate family. The study results shed light on problems in the area of support as well as difficulties in acceptance of both the child with Down syndrome and the mother. The difficulties towards acceptance emerge in the immediate family and they mostly concern the grandparents.","PeriodicalId":371798,"journal":{"name":"Special School","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132739229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An important issue in the area of justice and social rehabilitation is the skilful conversation. It is necessary to train the personnel in such a way as to obtain precise and complete information through all elements of the social rehabilitation system. By improving conversation techniques, the functioning of the entire social rehabilitation system will be improved, because it largely consists in collecting and providing information in a direct way.Innovative methods of conducting interviews should be implemented in social rehabilitation, should be based on empirical evidence, and the information contained in them should be presented in a practical way.","PeriodicalId":371798,"journal":{"name":"Special School","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125267655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it was shown that they mostly lead a sedentary lifestyle and have a higher rate of overweight and obesity. The aim of the study was to assess the level of PA with the use of objective and subjective tools among adults with ID based on the literature review (Google Scholar, Pubmed and EBSCO databases).The study uses the data mining method. The level of PA, biopsychosocial and environmental factors determining PA were considered, and objective and subjective research tools were verified. The obtained research material indicated a frequent occurrence of a sedentary lifestyle in the examined people (2579%). Diverse conclusions were observed in terms of the used research tools (objective and subjective). The general conclusion from the analysed material indicated the problem of overweight and obesity (4487% of respondents in the group of adults with ID), and the identification of barriers to PA.The PA level of people with ID was low. Moreover, most of the respondents did not meet the PA recommendations. Subjective and objective research tools were used in the research, however, the objective ones were used more frequent, in which a sedentary lifestyle was more common. Attention should be paid to promote tailor-made programmes of PA among people with ID.","PeriodicalId":371798,"journal":{"name":"Special School","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134230690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HRQoL was measured using the Assessment of Quality of Life (AQoL-8d) questionnaire that allows assessment of the overall health-related quality of life and the dimensions such as independence, senses, pain, mental health, happiness, coping, (social) relations, and self-esteem. The study included 27 persons with hearing loss. Most of them were persons with moderate hearing loss using conventional hearing aids. The control group also included persons with normal hearing matched in age and sex. We found that the overall HRQoL in the studied group with prelingual hearing loss was significantly lower than in the hearing group. It was also lower in the dimensions of independence, pain, and senses (physical sphere) and relations (psychosocial sphere). In psychosocial sphere in the dimensions such as mental health, coping, and self-esteem, the hearing-impaired group obtained lower scores than the hearing group at the level of statistical tendency. Moreover, higher education was related to the higher HRQoL in the physical sphere in general, including in the dimension of independence, but only in the group with hearing loss.Our results indicate that people with prelingual hearing loss require psychological support especially in interpersonal relationships self-esteem, and mental health, as well as hearing and speech rehabilitation to improve their auditory communication with the environment. Further research is required for the greater intensity and frequency of pain experienced in the study group of people with prelingual hearing loss compared to the hearing group.","PeriodicalId":371798,"journal":{"name":"Special School","volume":"161 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131864792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
