Cut off from home by the uprising of the Czechoslovak Legion and by events on other fronts of the Civil War in Russia, they began to suffer from cold and hunger in the autumn — winter of 1918 and ended up in the care of the American Red Cross, which in the summer of 1919 took them from the combat zone to Vladivostok, where they lived until July 1920. Due to the impossibility of returning through the Far East and Siberia, they sailed on a Japanese ship under the flag of the Red Cross along the route: Muroran (Japan), San Francisco, Panama Canal, New York, Helsinki, Koivisto (Finland), Petrograd. The paper includes the first publication of two colonists’ documents: a handwritten newspaper, ‘Kur’inskaia mozaika’ (Mosaic of Kurya), from July 13, 1918, and the handwritten diary of the colonist Mikhail Ivanovich Kholin for the period July 12 — September 18, 1920 (Vladivostok — Petrograd). The documents were received from A. L. Moyzhes (1910–2014).","PeriodicalId":36644,"journal":{"name":"Shagi/ Steps","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136004050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The topos has several variations in dissident discourse; it has a mirror parallel in pro-government discourse, i. e., the motive of purifying the air of the motherland by expelling foreign and hostile members of society who pollute it; it has a continuation in egodocuments written in emigration; and, finally, it may constitute a foundation in the deteriorating ecological reality and environmentalist rhetoric of the Soviet press which became increasingly conscious of environmental pollution during the 1970s. Besides such explanations as this topos being a possible reflection of environmental anxiety or a description of shortness of breath characteristic of depressive disorders to which some of the dissident authors were prone, it is assumed that the choice of this particular somatic metaphor among other possible ones in order to describe the unbearableness of living in the Soviet Union was primarily due to its very frequency, which led to a kind of suffocation epidemic and ensured the reproduction of the topos.","PeriodicalId":36644,"journal":{"name":"Shagi/ Steps","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135956260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the study is to define the notion of “the infra-ordinary” and establish its forms in the poetics of this author. This concept often appears in his works, although it may not be directly indicated. To this day, the meaning of “the infra-ordinary” remains poorly clarified, because it is difficult to find support for its understanding in the author’s texts, while it occupies one of the main places in his poetics. Perec articulates the term “the infra-ordinary” in one of his little-known essays, yet “the infra-ordinary” as an approach to writing is found in both his early and later texts. The indeterminacy of “the infra-ordinary” is largely connected with the multi-valued functioning of the concept of “everyday life” in Perec’s texts. This paper discusses the general problems of the concept of everyday life, the emergence of the concept of “the infra-ordinary”, the features and forms of implementation of “the infra-ordinary” in different texts by Perec. In the end, a conclusion is drawn about the serious significance of “the infra-ordinary” in his works, since it substantiates the author’s attitude both to the material of his writing and to writing itself, being meaningfully connected with the themes of memory, recollections, history, language and reality.","PeriodicalId":36644,"journal":{"name":"Shagi/ Steps","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136003053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The common opinion of experts (C. Sánchez Albornoz, M. I. Rostovtzeff, A. H. M. Jones and some others) is that Roman municipal institutions (including the curiales) disappeared in the former Roman Hispanic provinces no later than the middle of the 7th century. In contrast to this opinion, the article suggests another view of one of the classical problems of Roman studies, based on Hispanic primary sources from the 4th–9th centuries (including those of Arab-Hispanic origin). Information found in these sources points to the preservation of influential local oligarchies (including the Hispanic families of Roman origin which governed their cities in the epoch of the Visigothic Kingdom of Toledo) in Córdoba and Seville in the period following the Moslem invasion; at the same time, we see the influence of urban councils (senatus or curiae of the Latin texts), consisting of representatives of these families in the same cities. The fact of continuity and transformation of the curiae (consisting of successors of the Late Roman principales) is confirmed in the case of other cities and urban centers of Andalucia. The central and northern regions of Iberian Peninsula demonstrate the same tendency. Particular attention is paid to the role of bishops as successors of the Late Roman magistrates tradition and to the comites civitatum as a position which was genetically connected with the Roman urban government since the period of the 5th–6th centuries and which existed until the end of the Early Middle Ages at least.","PeriodicalId":36644,"journal":{"name":"Shagi/ Steps","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135955703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At first glance, Guizot — a scholar-intellectual, a liberal, a convinced pacifist, a well-known historian and one of the most unpopular French politicians — is the complete opposite of Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the most controversial, but at the same time one of the most popular heroes of French history: an anti-liberal and authoritarian ruler, a general who tried to conquer Europe with fire and sword. However, a careful comparative analysis shows that they had a lot in common. Their destinies were inextricably linked with the Revolution, both of them attached great importance to educational policy, both understood the importance of the religious factor, and both stood at the origins of a united Europe, although they proposed to act in completely different ways. Both have had a very difficult historiographical fate. Guizot and Napoleon are also brought together by very contradictory assessments in historical science. The careers of both Napoleon and Guizot ended in a defeat. However, Guizot, a brilliant historian and pacifist, a theorist of the parliamentary regime, who tried to combine the idea of freedom with the idea of order, remained in history as an unpopular and unsuccessful minister. As for Napoleon, he triumphed even after his defeat. He may have won his most important battle, that is, the battle for historical memory. For all his ambiguity, Napoleon remains one of the main national heroes of France. These important questions are the focus of this article.","PeriodicalId":36644,"journal":{"name":"Shagi/ Steps","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136003958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The author accepts Ding Naitong's conclusion about the genetic link between the ancient story of the taming of a shape-shifting empousa (witch or lamia) by Apollonius of Tyana in the 3rd century biography written by Lucius Flavius Philostratus and a) late medieval Chinese tales of the White Snake, beginning with the story of Feng Menlong in the 17th century, and b) Western European stories of marriages with demonic women from the 12th and 13th centuries, including Walter Map’s Henno cum dentibus. On this basis, and with the help of additional data, mainly a fragment of Nizami’s Iskandar-nāmeh and two stories from Hong Mai’s (1123–1202) collection Yijian zhi (“Records of Yi Jian”), an attempt has been made to clarify the relationship between all these plots, as well as between them and the Melusine legend. The article raises the question of a possible connection between the figure of Xu Xuan, who was the protagonist of Feng Menglong’s tale, and Apollonius of Tyana as a character in a mythological narrative.","PeriodicalId":36644,"journal":{"name":"Shagi/ Steps","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136259382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
