According to WHO, 20 million people are affected by Urinary Incontinence. This paper proposes an integrated architecture to continuously monitor the patients' bladder and remotely trigger the wireless artificial sphincter system using wireless power transfer in real time. After analysis, a few Ionic Electro Active Polymers (EAP) were selected to physically control the urethra. Possible designs using EAP polymer for urethra control are elaborated in this paper. This paper analyzes the major challenges of wireless power and data transfer and its impact on the design of the complete system. The proposed system provides a solution to continuously monitor the bladder and send alert messages to the control system that's on the patient's body. On receiving these alerts, patients' will remotely trigger the artificial sphincter control system to release the urine from their bladder. Thus the patients or caregivers can monitor the pressure inside their bladder and control urinal flow remotely by opening and closing the ionic EAP clip from outside. The system design has been simulated and tested with its different parameters and its results are discussed in this paper.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123848580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each object has their own trajectory information that is based on their object direction that change when updating their coordinate of the object vertices. For example, when one of the object vertex located at point A (let say 1,1) move into the point B (let say 1,5), then we have an update just for y-axis where it changes from point 1 to point 5 and involved y-positive direction. Hence, our purpose is to approximate accurately the point B where we need to know the direction of x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis are heading under reasonable time consumption and less computation with nearly accurate approximation technique. In this paper, we presented our theoretical framework of finding closest features from point of contacts between nearly intersected triangles.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124552275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on literatures, silicone rubber is one of the best candidate materials that exhibit desirable skin characteristics, thus making it the right material for skin substitute. Nonetheless, there is no specific standard that has been used to measure the mechanical properties and deformation behaviour of synthetic skin. This paper for the first time aims to assess two standard testing methods for silicone rubber. The work is carried out in 2 stages involving uniaxial testing and quantifying the material constants using a Matlab programme. Mechanical tests are conducted on 2 types of materials (different grades of silicone rubber) using uniaxial tensile test with two different standards (ASTM D2209 and ASTM D412). The raw testing data (load-extension) are then input into an in-house developed Matlab programme to compute and plot stress-stretch value based on neo-Hookean model. Based on statistical analysis, the testing data is found valid, since the sample variance is found to be less than 1%. The neo-Hookean constants, C1, are found to be 0.7819 (ASTM D2209) and 1.3786 (ASTM D412) for Material 1; and 0.927 (ASTM D2209) and 1.4396 (ASTM D412) for Material 2 revealing a difference of 59.67% and 51.21% for Material 1 and Material 2 respectively. As a conclusion, the significant difference of the quantified Material constants suggests a dedicated testing standard must be used.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115577185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It holds extensive potential applications in computer recognition, medical image analysis, artificial intelligence, and other fields. This paper explores and compares the performances of Harris corner detection and Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) methods in feature point detection works on facial image pre-processed using two different techniques; normal pre-process and background subtraction. Each method is performed to test their relation with repeatability. Three experimental stages have been executed; starting with feature point detection, identifying repeatability and finally measured the repeatability. The feature point is experimented on facial image surfaces with natural and smile expression. Based from the experimental result, we found background subtraction pre-processing technique give a good impact to the performances of both Harris Corner and SIFT detector in terms of searching the repeatability points.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115590949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, throughout the overwhelming growth of information usage on the online medium, it's become a question whether quality of information influence user to be loyal at the authoritative or organizational website. Web content quality widely measured as part of web site quality assessments. The four groups of identifying dimensions of web content quality based on information quality model are intrinsic information quality (IQ), contextual information quality (IQ), representational information quality (IQ) and accessibility information quality (IQ). Intrinsic IQ are included Reliability, accuracy, Objectivity and believability. The representational IQ measured in term of conciseness, completeness, consistency and understandability. A third group of IQ, which accessibility measured in detail in term accessibility, usability, efficiency and security while the last group of IQ, which is contextual assessed for currency, uniqueness, relevancy and scope/depth. The proposed framework is expected to have judgments and validations from the researchers to further conduct of the study.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124981138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For small, congested island states like that of Penang Island in Malaysia, the act of expanding its land area through reclamation of shallow coastal seas is a common sight. However, despite proven economic viability for reasonable depths, land reclamation poses detrimental effects to both people and environment. This paper presents an alternative solution to reclaim coastal seas, employing the concept of Very Large Floating Structures (VLFS). The application of VLFS and their major developments over the past two decades are briefly reviewed. Subsequently, applications of VLFS for increasing the land area in congested island states and coastal cities in Malaysia are discussed alongside proposed key systematic research areas and practical implementation models.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131803518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Evidence shows that robotic treatment could positively influence hand recovery. Nevertheless, there is no single established treatment strategy or protocol. This paper for the first time attempts to design and assess a novel wearable multiphalanges device for hand and finger rehabilitation assisting acute paralysed stroke survivors. A prototype of a Pneumatic Actuated Finger Exoskeleton (PAFEx) has been developed. The design of the device is proposed after analysing four existing main working mechanisms, i.e. Pneumatic Cylinders, Artificial Rubber Muscles, Linkage Mechanism and Cable-Driven Mechanism. The main design considerations for the home-based device focus on the ease of use and affordability. The device focused on assist the MP joint and PIP joint of thumb and index finger. For that reason, the angular displacement relationship between MP joint and PIP joint is estimated. The current findings show that the device has great potential for individualised rehabilitation session for patients who require rehabilitation in the context of their own home. Nevertheless, further investigation and experiments involving the Pneumatic Actuated Finger Exoskeleton (PAFEx) are currently in progress and the results will be reported imminently.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127624623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A variable double-band hysteresis is applied into bidirectional converter current controllers in order to improve dynamic response and reduce switching losses by increasing the switching frequency when inverter output current is relatively low and decreasing the switching frequency when inverter output current is relatively high without sacrificing the harmonic content of the AC side current.
