In a dynamic and competitive international environment, the entry timing decision involves the need to balance the early entry risks and the problems in losing opportunities as a result of late entry. This study proposes a theoretical framework to investigate the influence of advantages and disadvantages [dis (advantages)] on entry timing decisions of Malaysian construction firms in their international market expansion. Survey questionnaires were sent to 115 Malaysian construction firms listed under the Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia (CIDB) with 44.7 percent response rate. A total of twenty four (24) (dis) advantages were identified and confirmed using SMART PLS-SEM (partial least square structural equation modeling) to test the model and finally established the findings. The results with β coefficient of 0.538 and t-value of 2.805 indicate that the early mover disadvantages have significantly influenced the entry timing decision of the Malaysian construction firms into international market. Hence, this study illustrates the firms' acquirement of the (dis) advantages based on their late timing of entry into international market. It is hoped that the findings would offer valuable information to Malaysian construction firms with the intention to internationalize either as the early or late movers.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129167224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current situation demands an efficient targeted drug delivery system that enables localized drug administration which can be externally controlled. This paper proposes a remotely triggered targeted drug delivery system that is capable of providing drugs to multiple patients in a periodic basis and works according to the instructions transmitted from the external transmitter module. We present the characteristics and challenges in the propagation of Radio Frequency (RF) signals through different body tissues from the perspective of targeted drug delivery system so that the analysis can lead to the selection of optimum frequency needed for in-body communication. It is a problem which threatens the very core of academic sanctity, raising questions on the marred honour and integrity in a world generally presumed to be inherently virtuous and trustworthy. Whether plagiarism is committed and condone, consciously or unintentionally, the results are not very much different, with students being the very victims of the academic plague: distorted learning experience and undervalued learning outcomes. In addition, the internet has served as a two-edge sword cutting both ways, providing greater access to information and knowledge yet encouraging, though inevitably sometimes, increasing incidents of minor and major intellectual thefts. The circumstances notwithstanding, there is a need to review the culture of integrity or lack of in universities, where it encompasses the institution and system as a whole, the staff as the moral compass and the students seeking transparency and guidance in the matter. It is imperative to identify why students engage in plagiarism, how the current learning environment may have contributed to the rise in such misconduct, and what can be done to mitigate and circumvent plagiarism before it grows out of hand. A good grasp of the `whys' and `hows' can lead to the formulation of effective strategies and solutions, i.e. the `whats'. This paper explores the reasons students plagiarize in Malaysian IHLs, particularly the public universities.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127902817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system is based on wireless ZigBee technology that transfers the data wirelessly to UAV, which function is as a router, from which data is sent again to a data logger. An ATMEGA328P microcontroller is used to compute parameters such as CO2, O2, temperature and humidity. All the environmental parameters are measured on real time and are being stored in Secured Digital (SD) card for every 30 seconds interval. The data is collected at Engineering Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia in Nibong Tebal, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia using UAV at several nodes. The results show that the system is able to trace and record CO2, O2, temperature and humidity level, which are important parameters for studies related to global warming.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"138 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131781459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Removing the systematic error (bias) and enhancing the precision and limitations of radar data sources are the main focus in enhancing radar rainfall accuracy. This research work was to reduce radar rainfall bias due to the process and measurement noises using Kalman Filter with a multivariate analysis technique. The implementation of this technique involved numerical weather prediction (NWP) namely the Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model data output parameters such as temperature and relative humidity. The study found that filtering technique using Kalman Filter with multivariate analysis applying the WRF model output has satisfactorily improve radar rainfall estimates.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130764970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The unit cell of the circular loop and square loop FSS are designed and simulated using the CST Microwave Studio software at 2.4 GHz based on industrial, scientific and medical bands (ISM). The design FSS structure consists of FSS structures placed on the FR4 and glass. The reflection (S11) and transmission (S21) of the design FSS structure is analyzed based on the six types of configuration that have been set up. The hybrid material (FR4 and glass) effect the transmission and reflection signal of the FSS. The highest efficiency for circular loop FSS and square loop FSS are 91.4% and 88.1% with a return loss of -25.31 dB and -18.72 dB by using configuration 1. The frequency response of the FSS is shifted to the lower part when the hybrid materials are used. So, the size of the FSS can be reduced by using hybrid materials to achieve the desired frequency response.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132988466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Extended Kalman filter has the time performance close to the Kalman filter and is more suitable for nonlinear video target tracking. Particle filter is based on non-parameter estimation and outperforms in robustness in video tracking. Fusion state estimation can obtain more accurate and reliable motion state of video target by optimizing the state estimation and prediction of video target. To further boost the efficiency of video tracking, this paper also presents an adaptive frames sampling method which utilizes the motion state of video target to skip some frames and then avoid frame by frame sampling. In addition, an efficient video target state observation method is introduced. This method integrates adaptive background updating, adjacent three frames difference and canny edge detection to efficiently obtain the target contour and normalized HSV color histogram which are both crucial for video target matching.","PeriodicalId":364834,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Symposium on Technology Management and Emerging Technologies","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133739171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
