The controlled synchronization consists into induce a prescribed behavior onto the whole elements of the complex network. To this end, we propose a controller obtained from the geometrical control theory for nonlinear systems. The control action is applied only to a one or a small number of systems in the network but not to all. Thus, via the controlled systems the desired behavior is induced to the whole network. Simulation results are provided to corroborate the proposal.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"188 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133566101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The waveform segmentation is required to detect stationary and non-stationary stages throughout the voltage event waveforms. This detection plays an important role in the features extraction process since some features must be computed during stationary stages and other in non-stationary ones. The comparison is carried out using field measurements, which have been previously segmented through a visual inspection. The third and fourth states of the Kaiman filter as well as the voltage fundamental component have been used in the waveform segmentation process. Kaiman- and DWT-based segmentation results are compared and their advantages and drawbacks are discussed.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124873882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the nonlinear differential equation that describes the V-I (voltage vs. current) arc characteristic, both voltage fluctuations in the time domain and the arc length are established assuming periodic, stochastic and chaotic variations. The model is developed using PSCAD-EMTDC with parameters from a real steel company located in Colombia. The values for the short term flicker severity index (PST) were determined according to the IEC-61000–4–15 standard specifications. The simulation results are compared with real data obtained from the steel facility to demonstrate the validity of the models.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121054419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is because the dynamic characteristic of BPs makes the traditional analysis of these properties harder. Characteristics like the transitory dynamics of the states and the irreversibility of the states (from the dynamic systems point of view) are serious obstacles for the use of classic tools to make an analysis of stability and controllability in BP, therefore, other tools should be used in order to come closer to a theoretical analysis on BP control. One approach is the use of some set theory's definitions. This paper uses the Controllable Trajectories Sets (CTS) to carry out a theoretical analysis on BP control.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"317 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124484778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast to traditional techniques like PID by which the set point turns out to be of importance, a Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) by using the Volterra model together to the orthogonal polynomials might permit to control the reference trajectory tracking of the internal temperature of the reactor. This work proposes a NMPC based on the second order hybrid Volterra-type model containing only 6 parameters. It allows to evaluate both advantages and disadvantages of the model as to automate the temperature trajectory tracking from the initial phase of the heating. From the results, interesting and favorable prospects to automate the reactor are expected. It might suggest that the hybrid Volterra models are a key step towards compact technologies containing newest NMPC schemes of high performance.","PeriodicalId":359559,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE ANDESCON","volume":"14 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114025946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
