Cheng, Hai Zhou, Chung Yu","doi":"10.1109/SSST.1992.712305","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/SSST.1992.712305","url":null,"abstract":"Passive inertial rotation sensors based on the ring cavity suffer from error sources, such as frequency lock-in, mode pulling and null shift at low rotation rates. Fiber ring lasers used as active rotation sensors can remove some of these error sources, if the fiber Brillouin ring laser scheme is employed. Since stimulated Brillouin scattering gain has directional sensitivity, it is possible to support two simultaneous Brillouin lasers in the same ring resonator, yet decoupled, thus eliminating lock-in error and facilitating measurements of low input rates. Mode pulling errors should also be reduced. Laser sources powering such sensors may be subjected to Zeeman splitting under terrestrial or environmental magnetic fields, leading to magnetic field intensity dependent frequency shifts in the pump wave, of the order of the Sagnac shift. Such terrestrial dependence of laser rotation sensors may be removed by the Brillouin fiber ring scheme, since only a single pump wave can generate the two Brillouin ring lasers at one time, whichever is dominant. Demonstration of gyro application of the fiber Brillouin ring laser will add to the already abundant versatility of this device for optical amplification, channel selection, optical switching, optical noise suppression or amplification, leading to application both in fiber-optic communication and fiber-optic embedded structural sensing.","PeriodicalId":359363,"journal":{"name":"The 24th Southeastern Symposium on and The 3rd Annual Symposium on Communications, Signal Processing Expert Systems, and ASIC VLSI Design System Theory","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124231769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quantities measured are capacitance, dissipation factor, surface resistivity and volume resistivity. The test variables are voltage, temperature, frequency and pressure. The electrical insulating materials suffer degradation primarily due to the interaction of high energy protons, electrons and space plasma. Furthermore, the degradation is brought about by the thermal cycling due to the extreme temperatures to which the spacecraft is subjected when the spacecraft is facing the sun or eclipsed from the sun. The properties of the insulating materials targeted for measurement are Volume Resistivity, Surface Resistivity, Capacitance and Dissipation factor. The volume resistivity is used to indicate, indirectly, the uniformity of an insulating; material either with regard to processing or to detect conductive impurities which affect the quality of the insulating material. It is often used as an indirect measure of moisture content, mechanical continuity and deterioration of various types. The surface resistivity is used to indicate the level of the contamination that happens to be on the surface of the sample at any time. It is often used as a measure of moisture absorption and contaminant deposition on the surface (1) and deterioration, which affect the materials insulating properties. The capacitance is used to indicate the property of a dielectric which permits the storage of electrically separated charges when potential difference exists between the dielectric surfaces. The change in capacitance or dielectric constant indicates the changes in the bulk molecular properties of the material. The dissipation factor is used to indicate the A. C. power loss. The change in dissipation factor is a measure of the stability of the insulating properties, where as the value of the dissipation factor is a measure of the quality of the insulating properties under specified service conditions.","PeriodicalId":359363,"journal":{"name":"The 24th Southeastern Symposium on and The 3rd Annual Symposium on Communications, Signal Processing Expert Systems, and ASIC VLSI Design System Theory","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124447716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Defect mechanisms such as gate-oxide shorts, bridges between layers, leaky p-n junctions, or pin-hole defects can cause elevated current states that can be measured during non-transitional parts of the circuits operation. Detection of these abnormally large supply currents (IDDQ) in the power (VDD) or ground (GND) busses during a normally quiescent operating time allows detection of these physical defect mechanisms which normally are not accounted for when using simple stuck-at-fault testing. This paper presents an overview of IDDQ sensor techniques and presents an improved on-chip IDDQ current sensor which increases test application time from 1 MHz [1] to 8 Mhz.","PeriodicalId":359363,"journal":{"name":"The 24th Southeastern Symposium on and The 3rd Annual Symposium on Communications, Signal Processing Expert Systems, and ASIC VLSI Design System Theory","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132007196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This protocol can provide high throughput if the signal propagation time plus carrier detection delay is much smaller than the packet transmission time. Therefore, it is very crutial for performance analysis to consider both the exact timing of a sequence of the events at individual stations and their positions on the network. A study of the CSMA/CD protocol on the basis of space-time model which describes not only times of events but also spatial location is analyzed. A simulation study of the Ethernet operation is presented. First, the throughput of the protocol are monitored at the several different observation points on the bus. Second, the effect of packet length is examined. Then these realistic simulation results based on the space-time model are compared to previous time domain results. These results show that the throughput is much higher than time domain results.","PeriodicalId":359363,"journal":{"name":"The 24th Southeastern Symposium on and The 3rd Annual Symposium on Communications, Signal Processing Expert Systems, and ASIC VLSI Design System Theory","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130464271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In cases where the internal source of the motion of a cell is not known, the alternative approach to tracking and estimating the motion is using the shape information. Some of the techniques in curved boundary are reviewed in this paper, and an approach that segments and describes boundaries to obtain the correspondent points on a pair of boundaries for tracking the motion is proposed. Each boundary is described as a set of cyclic convex/concave segments, and inflection points between two segments are used as break points for tracking the motion of a cell. Some of the intermediate results of representing curved boundaries and tracking the motion of a cell are also presented along with algorithms.","PeriodicalId":359363,"journal":{"name":"The 24th Southeastern Symposium on and The 3rd Annual Symposium on Communications, Signal Processing Expert Systems, and ASIC VLSI Design System Theory","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130889230","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Misalignment Force Control in Two Manipulator Systems","authors":"W. Dellinger, J.N. Anderson","doi":"10.1109/SSST.1992.712212","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/SSST.1992.712212","url":null,"abstract":"An algorithm is developed for controlling the internal forces generated in an object when two arms with end-effector misalignments interact by grasping that object. The object may be rigid or have multiple degrees-of-freedom. Each manipulator is outfitted with a force torque sensor attached to its end-effector. Those forces/torques which are due to misalignments between the two arms are partitioned out of the measured forces/torques. A force controller is then designed to control these forces. Joint correction angles are calculated by use of the manipulator inertia matrices and the position controller gains. Each time the misalignment forces exceed a given threshold value the controller generates correction angles. These corrections are maintained until another violation of the threshold occurs.","PeriodicalId":359363,"journal":{"name":"The 24th Southeastern Symposium on and The 3rd Annual Symposium on Communications, Signal Processing Expert Systems, and ASIC VLSI Design System Theory","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133296946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
