Thumb fractal code involves fewer block parameters than other fractal coding, as data from the image thumbnail is utilised in image generation. Using domain block to range block size ratio of 4 for thumb fractal code yields a super-fast converging codec, with initial image the exploded thumb. This codec is especially suitable for thumbnail-based image access, where image retrieval is preceded by thumbnail access and diaply.","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121138107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Assuming a large data size or/and a high SNR, the estimation variances of the SS and CR methods are derived. The performances of the three methods are studied and compared against the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB). It is shown that the TSML method significantly outperforms the SS and CR methods and attains the CRB over a wide range of SNR. It is also shown that the SS method is more robust to iii channel conditions than the CR method, while the two methods show nearly identical performances for well-conditioned channels.","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116060102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We find that the estimation and association problem can be formulated as a simultaneous Diophantine approximation problem. We propose an algorithm for obtaining estimates and associations based on the LLL algorithm [SI. We also show a relationship with the maximisation of a certain trigonometric sum, which can be regarded as the periodogram of the measurements. We present some numerical results which indicate that the algorithm is able to make correct associations of pulse indices, and therefore accurate estimates of the period, with very high probability even for very sparse, short and noisy records. This is demonstrated in examples in which 99.9% of pulses are missiig and as few as 9 pulses are recorded with average errors of up t o 1% of the period on each measurement and yet the experimental frequency of correct association was more than 99%.","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114356952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lloyd's algorithm aims at the finding of the least mean square between the training vectors and their centroids. The major problem of this method is ''local optimal state''. Therefore Simulated Annealing (SA) is applied in the optimization of the codebook in VQ system. In the existing SA scheme, the successful rate of each generation, especially in the end of the process, would be very low. In this paper, novel schemes (Local Region Searching and Least Frequently Hit) are suggested to enhanced the performance and arise the hit rate of the generation of the existing SA algorithms. From the experimental result, the hit rate is arise by over 100 times of existing method. Improvement is found in both the fidelity testing and perception testing on the decoded image.","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"15 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124091854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
