A flexible algorithm that allows us to control this number depenhng on the environment in which it operates is presented. The maximum degrees of freedom for an N element array is N - 1 for the incoherent case and (N-l)/2 for the fully coherent case. The most noticeable feature in this algorithm is that it can be implemented in real time since the updating of the weight equation involves only a rank one update each time a new snapshot arrives.","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114163267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given a set of subword Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) and a set of utterances of a specific word, the modified tree-trellis algorithm and the BaumWelch re-estimation procedure is used iteratively to achieve a combined optimisation of baseforms and subword models. The DARPA Resource Management (RM) database was used to evaluate the combined optimisation scheme. The proposed method resulted in a monotonic increase in the likelihood score of both test- and training data. When compared to the initial lexicon derived from the DARPA RM-distribution and a set of initial HMMs, a 13% reduction in word error rate is achieved at best.","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130639223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm is based on the estimation 3f the local fractal dimension (FD) of the image using its local spectral density computed from the Fourier-wavelet transform. Using our high-resolution FD map, the FD and edge information is integrated into a region gowing algorithm for segmentation of nasural and real images. Implementation results for a thirdorder lattice wave digital filter in a 0.8~ standard CMOS process indicate that a sample frequency of 300MHz is achievable, which is more than double the sample rate reported in previous works on the same filter[2],[5]. It is the high speed of the TSPC technique and absence of carry propagation in CS arithmetic, that provide the improvements.","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114652037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such data is typical in many practical applications, for example, sonar where data streams are comprised of both transient and long duration tones. While classic Fourier techniques are well suited for analysis of global regularites, time-frequency techniques are showing promise for finding the location and spatial distribution of spurious events. However, it is widely regarded that no single transformation performs best on all types of data. In this paper, enhanced signal rep resentation is addressed by introducing a multistage approach to adaptive signal processing of data containing disparate features. The first stage consists of data partitioning into segments of like features. The next entails determining the appropriate time-scale decomposition for each data segment. Application of the technique is performed on both simulated and actual sonar data sets and results are compared with outputs from single stage techniques.","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114118407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We not only consider the typical model errors : gain errors, phase error and sensor position errors; but also consider the effect of uncompensated mutual coupling. While the signal-to-noise ratio and beampointing error are robust to model errors, the sidelobes are shown to be very sensitive. Due to this sensitivity, under non-stationary interferer environments, we show that model errors can greatly worsen the attainable sub-clutter visibility (clutter-to-noise ratio).","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"293 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117350973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed system consists of a non-linearly spaced array structure followed by a speech seeking unit, a dual-beamformer, a post-processing stage as well as an artificial neural network (ANN) central control unit. The system can seek and track the target speaker automatically and obtain an optimal output with the best quality and intelligibility. Extensive simulation results have shown that the proposed system is a useful device for speech signal acquisition in the presence of competing speech and/or background noise. The application of this technique include hands-free telephone and covert recording systems for forensic application.","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124164107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We define the array gain, which is proportional to the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR), and show that the array gain is varying over the angle of arrival (AOA) of the signal impinging on the antenna array. It means that the SINR of a user can differ from that of other user depending on the user‘s location. The average array gain is obtained with respect to the AOA. Using the average array gain, we can define the optimum antenna array that maximizes the average array gain. Some properties of the optimum antenna array are considered. From this, we observe that the uniform linear array (ULA) is closer to the optimum array than the uniform circular array (UCA).","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122081186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Parallel HMM filters are used for QAM detection, with one filter for each group of constellation points. This greatly reduces the number of computations required. A Kalman Filter (KF) is then applied for channel estimation. The resulting adaptive algorithms appear as coupled KF and HMM filters. As well as having reduced computations, this approach does not require so called ‘hard-decoding-decisions’ to be made, which result s in better robustness to noise.","PeriodicalId":359344,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122100990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
