The books are the main tools of children’s literature. Children’s books should not only be in coherence with language and style; at the same time it should be able to contribute to children’s mental and imaginary world with their subjects, heroes, implicit and indirect messages. In this study, the elements of violence in twenty books (decided by random sampling) of 100 Basic Works prepared by the Ministry of Education for Primary and Secondary Schools have been examined. In the analysis of these works, documental analysis among qualitative analysis methods has been used. “Sentence” is accepted as the starting point of the analysis of works in terms of violence. Each work has been analyzed on the basis of sentences and the sentences containing violence have been classified quantitatively. To analyze the outcome of the obtained data, Content Analysis Method has been used. At the end of the study, it is indicated that many works including child heroes such as “The Prince and The Beggar, A FifteenYear-old Captain, The Treasure Island, The Kidnapped Child” frequently refer to “violence”. Children books should be evaluated from the view of messages of it, characteristics of heroes, usage and aim of violence. © 2014 IOJES. For this purpose, drawing method, open-ended questions and word association test were applied to 65 middle school students. Descriptive analysis and content analysis were used to analyze the data. It was found that there were a wide range of alternative conceptions in students’ drawings and definitions of the cell. They mostly designated the nucleus, cell membrane and the mitochondria as the most important parts or organelles. The participants association of the cell concept with daily life was mostly categorized as ‘awareness generated by knowledge’, ‘health’ and ‘finding it necessary for the future’. Also, the data collected through the word association test was categorized under 5 categories and ‘defining the cell’, ‘parts and the organelles of the cell’ and ‘giving examples to the cell’ were the mostly persisting ones. We conclude that the 6th grade students who met for the first time with the cell concept at school had insufficient conceptions about that concept. © 2014 IOJES. In this context, this research study was planned with the idea that it is important to determine the teaching attitudes of pre-service teachers who graduated from the faculty of Science and Letters and the faculty of Education. The research problem was to investigate pre-service elementary mathematics teachers’ attitudes towards the profession of teaching and the teaching attitudes of the Mathematics graduates from the faculty of Science and Letters who have taken teaching formation courses in terms of different variables. The research was conducted with the pre-service mathematics teachers enrolled in the senior grade of the program of Mathematics Education in Hasan Ali Yucel Faculty of Education and those taking teaching formation courses in the academic year of 2012-2013. The data were collected using the “Teaching Approach Scale” developed by Cetin (2006) and a demographical information form prepared by the researchers. This quantitative research study was conducted in survey method. An SPSS 16 statistical program was used to analyse the data. According to the findings, it was observed that pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards teaching did not differ in terms of gender, parents’ educational level, type of high school of graduation. On the other hand, a significant statistical difference was detected between the pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards teaching in terms of parents’ monthly income. This criticism is considered for the development of all school curriculums in Turkey, and proper educational curriculums are prepared in line with the criticism. An attempt to understand the desired primary school model of primary school student teachers basically reveals their educational philosophy. This study aims to scrutinize the philosophical perceptions of primary school teacher students, who study at the Faculty of Education, Pamukkale University, towards educational processes based upon their ideas and experiences. The study based its design on the sequential explanatory design, one of the mixed methods. The study was comprised of 267 primary school student teachers who were enrolled in the Department of Primary School Teaching. Considering the quantitative part of the study based on the understanding of primary school student teachers about their educational philosophy, the participants mostly had popular educational thoughts and applications. The three basic themes were “the school which makes people free”, “the school which teaches life” and “the school which makes people think” in terms of the qualitative part of the study. © 2014 IOJES. The sample of study consists of 422 primary education students who were enrolled in different programs at Sakarya, in Turkey. In this study, Metacognitive Learning Inventory-Science and Perceived Self-regulation Scale were used. The relationships between metacognition and selfregulation were examined using correlation analysis and the hypothesis model was tested through structural equation modeling. In correlation analysis, metacognition, and self-regulation were found positively. The model demonstrated fit (χ2= 1014.86,df=551, p=.00, RMSEA=.038, GFI=.99, AGFI=.99, CFI=.99, NFI=.99, IFI=.99, RFI=.99, SRMR=.008). According to results metacognition was predicted positively by self-regulation. Results were discussed in the light of literature © 2014 IOJES. At the total of 677 students from six different universities volunteered to participant in this study. The study process, learning modality and achievement goal levels of students were determined. The presence of relationship between Study Process and Achievement goal and mediation effect in the Study Process Approaches for the relationships between the Learning Modalities and the Achievement Goal Orientation are the two main findings of this study. According to these findings the teacher candidates should know well the Study Process Approaches and Learning Modalities that provide for the students to learn in a more comprehensible manner, for them to avoid factors that pave the way to mental confusion and that will facilitate attaining success. © 2014 IOJES. Of the qualitative research methods, the case study method was used in the research. The study group of the research consisted of 18 social studies teachers in the center of Antalya. The criterion sampling, one of the purposeful sampling methods, was used to choose the study group. The data of the research was collected through interview technique and analyzed by using descriptive analysis. When the results of the research were generally evaluated, it was understood that social studies teachers could explain the intangible cultural heritage, and could relate it to the social studies courses and also that they thought that teaching the intangible cultural heritage was important for the elementary and secondary school students. In addition, it was determined that the social studies teachers could find themselves and also the social studies program inefficient to teach the intangible cultural heritage. According to the results of the research, it was also seen that attending the elective course called The Public Culture for the social studies teachers had a positive effect on teaching the intangible cultural heritage topics. © 2014 IOJES. Data were acquired within the scope of a professional development project supported by Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). Technology integration education given within the scope of the project lasted for a month, four hours a week. In the educational program, teachers were informed about what should be taken into consideration when integrating technology into their lessons. This study used case studies and qualitative research methods. The participants consisted of 10 teachers. The participants were randomly chosen among the teachers who received the educational training given within the scope of the project and who were available for technology use in their classes. The videos were analyzed within the context of roles given to technology. According to the findings obtained from video analyses, before the educational program, teachers did not use technology in their lessons even though their classroom environment was convenient for technology usage or used replacement, which is the lowest level among technology usage roles. After the program, teachers were observed to realize technology integration beginning generally from the lowest level. In addition, after the program, as well as replacement, two teachers used technology in the transformation role and five teachers used technology in the amplification role. © 2014 IOJES. The sample group consists of 315 students who are enrolled at the School of Physical Education and Sports in Sakarya University, Marmara University, Kocaeli University and Mugla Sitki Kocman University. SPSS 15.0 software package was used in order to evaluate the collected data. As a conclusion, no significant difference was found between political skills of student-athletes and whether they do sports in individual or in a team. “Thinking” and “Feeling” personality types, which are preferred by student-athletes when making decisions, differ in terms of “Social Astuteness” dimension of the Political Skill Inventory and whether student-athletes do sports in individual or in a team. © 2014 IOJES.
