Self-Compassion as a Predictor of Proactivity 自我同情作为主动性的预测因子

Participants were 285 university students (153 women, 132 men; M age= 20.9 yr.). In this study, the Self-compassion Scale and the revised Proactivity Scale were used. The relationships between selfcompassion and proactivity were examined using correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. In correlation analysis, self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness factors of selfcompassion were found positively and self-judgment, isolation, and over-identification factors of self-compassion were found negatively related to proactivity. According to regression results, proactivity was predicted negatively by over-identification and isolation. Further self-kindness and mindfulness predicted proactivity in a positive way. Self-compassion has explained 30% of the variance in proactivity. The results were discussed in the light of the related literature and dependent recommendations to the area were given. © 2014 IOJES. In this context, the study was carried out based on literature review. The data were obtained from the related literature concerning curriculum development models implemented in Turkey and epistemology discourse within pragmatism. The data collected were identified via descriptive analysis and interpreted comparatively. Firstly, study findings were examined curriculum development models implemented in Turkey to dimensions of methodological structure, integrated institutional structure, and effects to teaching practice. Secondly, compared with the discourse of epistemology related to essence, source, and methodology of knowledge within pragmatism, it was determined the understanding of knowledge that it makes possible. While some students overcome with the difficulties successfully, the others might not demonstrate the same skills. The differences among students are explained with learned resourcefulness. Many factors such as the relationships with parents have an effect to develop learned resourcefulness. In this study, determination of the predictive power of gender, parental attitudes, and values on learned resourcefulness of high school students were aimed. The study is designed according to the survey model. The sample consisted of 420 (F=202; M=218) high school students studying in different schools in Istanbul. Parental Attitude Scale, Rosembaum’s Learned Resourcefulness Scale, Schwartz Value Scale, and personal information sheet were used as measurements. Results showed that gender, parental attitudes and values had predictive power on learned resourcefulness. It was also gained that mother and father educational levels had significant effects on learned resourcefulness, whereas number of siblings and birth order did not yield any effects. This research aims to identify the level of acquisition by school boys and girls of the concepts of introduction, development and reinforcement levels in the Social Studies the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades. In this study, in which a descriptive method was used, the existing situation and conditions were researched as the year. It can be said that the success rates of the levels of acquisition as a result of concept teaching in the levels of the 4th and the 5th grade sare in sufficient at the level of following the lower class (The 4th grade) and the upper class level (the 5th grade) in the stage of “Introduction and Development” of the 4th and the 5th grades. Looking into the distribution of the concepts given the 6th and the 7th grades at the level of “introduction, development and reinforcement”, both in the 6th as well as in the 7th grades, most of the concepts given were seen to be “reinforcement” level concepts. Grades concepts, the “gender” variable of students are not influential and it can be added that the levels of success/failure achieved/suffered are independent of the effect of “gender” factor. In this regard, the fact that the acquisition states of social studies concepts of the 4th Grade students are higher compared to those of the 5th grade, and the states of the 6th grade students in comparison to those of the 7th grades clearly suggest that education/teaching studies regarding the same concepts for two consecutive years are inadequate. Among the reasons for these insufficiencies, we can state that educational-training activities are not conducted or supported enough with suitable methods, techniques and strategies. © 2014 IOJES. However, means of measuring metacognition efficiently is still a problem. This problem has been at the center of a scientific debate about which instruments are more suitable. In this study two off-line methods, student and teacher evaluations were used. The aim of this research is to investigate which one of the evaluation form (teacher form versus student form) is the predictor of mathematic achievement. For this aim two studies were carried out. In the first study mathematics achievements of students were measured by mathematic scores in their reports. In the second study it was measured by more standard test called Placement test (Seviye Belirleme Sinavi -SBS). In the first study 408 primary school students from a state school participated. Only sixth grade students who attended SBS exam of the first study were taken the second study. According to results of this study that aimed to investigate which one of the evaluation forms (teacher form versus student form) is the predictor of mathematics achievement, instead of the results of students evaluation form, the results of teacher evaluation form are the main predictor of the mathematics scores of students. Teacher evaluation form alone explains about 51 % of the variance in mathematics achievement. © 2014 IOJES.
