Decapitated planaria were regenerated in water, A. paniculata extract, hydrogen peroxide, and a combination of hydrogen peroxide and A. paniculata. The growth was 26% higher, locomotion 15% higher, and protein 35% higher in A. paniculata group. The stressed group had 33% higher growth, 17% higher locomotion, and 36% higher protein when treated with A. paniculata. In conclusion, A. paniculata accelerated the regeneration and minimized the stress induced by hydrogen peroxide and hence can be a promising option for the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases.KEYWORDS: Andrographolideplanariaredox Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).","PeriodicalId":35803,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Herbs, Spices and Medicinal Plants","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135512976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Triton WR-1339 led to elevations in total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TGs), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C), as well asatherogenic indices encompassing the atherogenic coefficient (AC), Castelli’s risk index I (CRI-I), and Castelli’s risk index II (CRI-II). The highest zone of inhibition (ZOI) were noted for methanol extract of B. nigra against S. boydii. The highest activity index (AI) was noted in methanol extract of B. nigra against S. boydi (AI = 0.86) using ciprofloxacin as positive control but AI ≥ 1.0 in some extracts while using gentamicin as positive control. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the extracts ranged from 6.25 mg mL−1 to 100 mg mL−1. The antibacterial activity of the extracts was B. nigra > T. foenum-graecum > S. molle.KEYWORDS: Antibacterial activityactivity indextest bacterial pathogens AcknowledgmentsWe thank the Department of Biology, the College of Natural and Computational Sciences, and the School of Graduate Studies of Madda Walabu University for their administrative and material support. This study delves into Dysphania ambrosioides medicinal properties, utilizing hydro distillation and ultrasonic methods for extraction, followed by GC-MS analysis. Assessments revealed potent anti-diabetic effects in the methanol extract, significant antioxidant activity in the DCM extract and oil, and resistance against Escherichia coli. This research underscores the potential of local flora for novel treatments, particularly in underdeveloped regions. It emphasizes the value of plant screening in bioprospecting efforts, suggesting further investigations into specific bioactive compounds for pharmaceutical applications.KEYWORDS: Dysphania ambrosioidesTFCphytochemical screeningGC-MSantibacterialTPCantioxidant AcknowledgmentsFinancial assistance from the BfR (SFP 1322-807) is thankfully acknowledged.Disclosure StatementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).Data Availability StatementData are available on request from the authors.Supplementary MaterialSupplemental data for this article can be accessed online at https://doi.org/10.1080/10496475.2023.2267467","PeriodicalId":35803,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Herbs, Spices and Medicinal Plants","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136112611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
