In order to take advantage of the possibilities offered by such systems, their design must allow users to interact and communicate effectively. One of the open questions in this area concerns the fidelity of the remote partner's avatar. This can indeed have a direct effect on communication between remote users, more particularly regarding spatial interactions. In this paper, we present a theoretical framework to analyze the fidelity of the remote partner's avatar in CVE. We also present an ongoing study to compare the effects of two partner's avatar types on spatial communication. This will permit extracting guidelines for designing CVEs including pointing and spatial guidance tasks.","PeriodicalId":356460,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 30th Conference on l'Interaction Homme-Machine","volume":"311 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123043147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the major difficulties consists in proposing a visual data representation which makes sense to the users. After refining our method to identify user needs in terms of visualization, and to define the main dimensions of a learning dashboard, we propose a tool to support participatory design. This tool is based on a canvas and cards to help dashboards' creation using Learning Analytics. It allows users to support creativity around decision making, characterize their context, and draw a dashboard's mockup using existing content.","PeriodicalId":356460,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 30th Conference on l'Interaction Homme-Machine","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126638625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Applied to the education field, one of the challenges of HCI is that it relies on the design of user-interfaces and interactions designed to meet pupils and teachers' requirements. To evaluate designed interactions, researchers currently use scale-based questionnaires like Likert's. For now, most of the time data collection is different between pupils and teachers. Indeed, young respondents have less experience than adults and could be more limited in their ability to express themselves. Several studies show that children tend to select extreme answers on these scales. To reduce this bias, we investigated the role of tangibility. We developed a prototypical device to help them to \"weigh\" their opinion. We conducted a preliminary study with children. First, our results show that our tangible interface seems to engage young respondents to metaanalyze system usability. Secondly our prototype seems to reduce extreme responses.","PeriodicalId":356460,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 30th Conference on l'Interaction Homme-Machine","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115504474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Personalizing museum visits, depending on visitors' preferences, is one possible solution for making museums more attractive. Based on an analysis of the needs of museums professionals, we have designed five storyboards of interactions which allow a group of visitors to select a personalized tour based on their characteristics and desires. Based on this analysis and the related work, we have identified twelve requirements to evaluate these solutions. We then designed a low-fidelity prototype which we call \"personalization totem\", which allows members of the group to specify their individual characteristics and then collaboratively choose the characteristics common to the group.","PeriodicalId":356460,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 30th Conference on l'Interaction Homme-Machine","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123593965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is due to lack of interaction techniques to interact with a 3D VE composed of many objects. In this article, we focus on selecting objects in dense 3D VE. We propose DichotoZoomwhich allows the selection of objects inside a set of already pre-selected ones, with a limited number of actions. In a first study, we compare our technique with the Circulation technique, suggested by the literature. This study shows the effectiveness of DichotoZoomwhen the set contain significantly numerous elements. Finally, we studied its use with various interaction modalities used on Smartphone : using physical or graphical buttons, and gestural interactions via touch screen or moving the device itself.","PeriodicalId":356460,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 30th Conference on l'Interaction Homme-Machine","volume":"66 sup5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125131823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twenty devices are examined through two perspectives: Fishkin's taxonomy and an original classification from the authors. The latter focuses on two aspects: didactics, by trying to identify the concepts implemented by the child, and the interaction modalities made available to a child to communicate and interact with the device. Innovation tracks in terms of interaction design are suggested and opportunities to continue this study, particularly with regard to the assimilation of concepts by the child, are presented.","PeriodicalId":356460,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 30th Conference on l'Interaction Homme-Machine","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134034780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally, their visualization includes 2D renderings or animated visualizations that do not fit to the exploration of such complex data. In this paper, we present an alternative approach to current STD visualizations. Our approach uses tangible and visual tools such as mini-robots and a tactile interaction screen to facilitate access, interpretation and manipulation of this kind of data. While tangible elements have been introduced to represent information, our system provides a new approach to explore multidimensional datasets that conventional tools would not allow.","PeriodicalId":356460,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 30th Conference on l'Interaction Homme-Machine","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121683709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present the design and evaluation of novel interaction techniques relying on the usage of an always-available device, the smartphone, to improve interaction with spreadsheets on tablets. The smartphone can be used as an additional screen, allowing to display more information or as a tangible interactor, thus extending the tactile interaction vocabulary through stacking gestures. Our techniques aim to facilitate the creation of pivot tables, a common task in data analysis on spreadsheets. We evaluate our stacking techniques against the tactile interactions provided by mobile spreadsheet apps. Our studies reveal that some of our interaction techniques are 23.1% faster than tactile for creating pivot tables.","PeriodicalId":356460,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 30th Conference on l'Interaction Homme-Machine","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129989041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
