This can cause the assessment team to waste time and may result in the presentation of an inaccurate picture of compliance status. By identifying and responding to risks and issues which can negatively impact upon the efficiency of the assessment process, an organization can maximize the opportunity for assessors to accurately determine an organization's true level of compliance. Accurate, relevant findings provide a solid foundation from which to facilitate continuous improvement and achievement of higher process goals. This paper describes the strategies used to successfully conduct an assessment against the Capability Maturity Model for Software in the Motorola iDENtrade Subscriber Group engineering organization in April 2003. The techniques can be applied to other similar appraisal methods (including ISO 9000 audit or a SCAMPISM for CMMIreg ) which involve some combination of interviews and evidence review","PeriodicalId":355273,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2004. The schemes enjoy the following advantages. They require no special trusted parties. After bid opening phase, only the winning price is revealed and the relation of other bidding amounts keep unknown. The winning price is publicly verifiable. Our scheme supports the first-price auction, Vickrey auction and (M+l)st-price auction. Finally, the first-price auction is very efficient and the generic (M+l)st-price auction is applicable when a high standard of security is required.","PeriodicalId":355273,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2004. Meta-search engines help a bit by having a better coverage of the WWW. However, users are still overwhelmed by the large amount of irrelevant results returned by a search. A promising approach to tackle the problem is personalized search. Thus the problem of capturing users' personal information need and re-organizing the results has attracted a lot of attention. In this paper, we present a meta-search engine that extracts users' preference implicitly and provides immediate response by re-ranking the results. Re-ranking is done by using the Naive Bayesian classifier and the resemblance measure. Moreover, we show that the users' preference can be succinctly represented by a few keywords.","PeriodicalId":355273,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2004. The role of Reo is to construct and manage connectors, the latter being patterns of connected channel communicators. The communication and coordination of components lying over a distributed address space has been dealt so far with stream or datagram connections created and controlled by the participating calculation and coordination components. Web services can take advantage of the Reo channel system that separates communication from computation concerns using components that have independent sink and source ports that can be attached to Web Services components, thus overcoming the problem of compatibility in distributed systems. The flow of information is entirely regulated by the channel interconnections.","PeriodicalId":355273,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2004. In this paper, we present an automated approach for checking consistency and completeness of testing models for interactive systems. The testing models are described in terms of operations provided by the system under test (SUT). Each operation is specified as a set of possible results each with a guard condition and a set of actions on its parameters and the system state. The consistency and completeness checks performed include identification of malformed models, irrelevant state variables, incomplete and redundant guard conditions, missing data values, and nondeterminism in and executability of operation results. We review our testing requirements model, and describe various consistency checks performed on this model. We illustrate these checks with an example test model, and also present algorithms used to perform our analysis","PeriodicalId":355273,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2004. Distinguishing essential functionalities from accidental ones in the development can lead to the reduction of maintenance effort and to the trustworthy system. In this paper, we propose feature based modelling (FBM) in which accidental functionalities are aligned with essential functionalities. The feature in this approach, as a logical unit, provides traceability from a functionality in the requirements to an implemented module with effective dependency management, thus the accidental features can be modified with minimal disruption to the essential features. FBM enables us to limit working boundary of maintenance activities, thus helps to keep the trustworthiness of the system against unskillful modification.","PeriodicalId":355273,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2004. We need to take and use this effectively (and hence need measures of what is effective too). My position is therefore that the CCSE is a useful and quite important stepping-stone, but it is not a watershed in the education process nfortunately, I think there are many more tasks ahead of us. The SEI's programme to develop curriculum modules back in the late 1980s represented a determined attempt to bootstrap software engineering education, using expert judgement with some degree of consultation. The process used to develop the CCSE has moved on a step from this, but was still heavily dependent upon expert judgement-even if this has drawn upon a larger community and longer experience. For the next step, we therefore need to begin to replace the use of expert judgement with evidence that has been carefully assembled and systematically reviewed","PeriodicalId":355273,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2004. However, so many important aspects relevant to testing can be identified from the specification that exhaustively testing their combinations can be very costly. A common approach to reduce testing costs is to identify some particular input conditions and test each of them only once. We argue that such an approach should be used judiciously, or else inadequate tests may result. This paper explores several alternatives to assess the validity of the tester's hypothesis that a particular condition can be tested adequately with only one test case. These alternatives help to test the particular conditions more reliably and, hence, reduce the risk of not revealing the existence of faults","PeriodicalId":355273,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2004. The target application field is the verification of fault-tolerance algorithms where a paper proof is published Ideally, testing should be focused on the weak parts of the demonstration. The identification of weak parts proceeds by restructuring the informal discourse as a proof tree and analyzing it step by step. The approach is experimentally assessed using the example of a flawed group membership protocol (GMP). Results are quite promising: (1) compared to crude random testing, the proof-guided method allowed us to significantly improve the fault revealing power of test data; (2) the overall method also provided useful feedback on the proof and its potential flaw(s).","PeriodicalId":355273,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2004.
