In this paper the characteristics and effects of electromagnetic radiation on organisms are discussed. Thermal effects and non-thermal effects of electromagnetic radiation on living things are also presented. Then a series of suggestions to diminish electromagnetic pollution are put forward. With the rapid development of electronic technology, electromagnetic pollution is getting more and more serious with each passing day. So it has been paid attention by many countries and has entered the list of public hazards, which need to be eliminated in accordance with the United Nations Human Environment Conference. In particular microwave radiation is the main cause of electromagnetic pollution which not only disturbs the ecological balance but also threatens human beings. Therefore, the study of the elimination of electromagnetic pollution has wide significance.","PeriodicalId":354225,"journal":{"name":"ICMMT 2000. 2000 2nd International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology Proceedings (Cat. Device simulations using ATLAS/BLAZE for the SiGe HBT with trapezoidal or triangular Ge profile are carried out to optimize the device performance. A HBT with a 15% triangular Ge profile shows a higher cut-off frequency and DC current gain than that with a 19% trapezoidal Ge profile. The cut-off frequency and DC gain are increased from 42 GHz to 84 GHz and from 200 to 600, respectively.","PeriodicalId":354225,"journal":{"name":"ICMMT 2000. 2000 2nd International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology Proceedings (Cat. It operates at 9 GHz with over 300 MHz linear tuning range. The excellent GaAs MESFET voltage controlled oscillator has a good balance between the high output power and wide tuning range. A GaAs FET balanced resistive mixer is used in this circuit which provides the low intermodulation and low 1/f noise even at the very low IF (to tens of Hz). All of these features are very suitable for the application of this kind of radar.","PeriodicalId":354225,"journal":{"name":"ICMMT 2000. 2000 2nd International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology Proceedings (Cat. The whole design can be divided into three main parts: transmitter, receiver and frequency synthesizer. Commercial RF ICs are adopted in the circuit design thus making the system small enough to fit onto a single PCB. The RF direct modulation technique eliminated the intermediate frequency stage from the transmitter to make the system more compact and better performance is achieved. For the receiver, when the arrived RF signal level is as low as -95.1 dBm, the bit error ratio (BER) of the binary output can retain a proper value 10/sup -3/ for voice communication. The receiver's dynamic range is over 70 dB under its AGC loop. These test results are good enough to meet the standard performance requirements.","PeriodicalId":354225,"journal":{"name":"ICMMT 2000. 2000 2nd International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology Proceedings (Cat.
