Active and passive techniques are investigated, concluding that a passive technique is feasible but that an active technique is not. The passive technique would use a three channel spectral radiometer tuned on and around the resonance line. Concentrations of 10 parts per million could be detected over a path length of 100 m. Such a system could be incorporated into a passive millimetre wave imager to detect and measure remotely concentrations of carbon monoxide. Using active techniques, it is shown that modulated radiation temperature changes are too small to be measured using radiometry.","PeriodicalId":354225,"journal":{"name":"ICMMT 2000. 2000 2nd International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology Proceedings (Cat. Techniques of both low-impedance technique in a load-pull system and high-impedance internal node probing, including calibration approaches are presented. Applications of the low-impedance waveform technique are demonstrated in finding the optimum harmonic loads of power PHEMTs to achieve best power added efficiency (PAE). Measured versus simulated results show very good agreement and therefore verify the measurement technique. It has been shown that as high as 83% power added efficiency can be achieved under the inverse-F harmonic loading condition. Also the good agreement of high-impedance probing on a GSM power amplifier with simulated results validates the internal-node probing technique.","PeriodicalId":354225,"journal":{"name":"ICMMT 2000. 2000 2nd International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology Proceedings (Cat. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed scheme over the conventional scheme, four different low noise amplifiers for 9000 MHz and 1.85 GHz applications have been designed, fabricated and measured using 0.5 /spl mu/m BiCMOS technology. The measured results of both 900 MHz and 1.85 GHz LNAs show that the proposed scheme consumes less than 50% of power that is required with conventional scheme, while maintaining comparable gain and linearity. Specifically, a 900 MHz LNA has NF of 1.65 dB, transducer power gain (S/sub 21/) of 16.5 dB and IIP3 of +3 dBm including gain controllability with power consumption of only 21 mW (3 V) using maximum f/sub T/ of 15 GHz BiCMOS technology.","PeriodicalId":354225,"journal":{"name":"ICMMT 2000. 2000 2nd International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology Proceedings (Cat. Experiments show that the level of surface reflection is very large. Because of this large reflection from surface, it is very hard to obtain images from weakly scattered objects like mines etc. if they are buried close to surface. This paper shows that if the incident wave is arranged at the Brewster angle, surface reflection is decreased and the imaging by the microwave tomography method of buried weakly scattered objects like mines etc. is better than at non Brewster angle.","PeriodicalId":354225,"journal":{"name":"ICMMT 2000. 2000 2nd International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology Proceedings (Cat.
