For that we considered two axes of research: the systemic axis,to ascertain the political, social and economic context; and the particularistic axis, to determine its ideological mark, ideational purpose and valences of its founders and leaders. The results point to three major conclusions: i) the crisis did not present itself as a great mobilizer for the creation of new parties; ii) the Geringonça accentuated the left vs. right divide; and iii) the opposition tends to generate new rupturing and purifying parties.","PeriodicalId":351727,"journal":{"name":"Relações Internacionais","volume":"176 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133808500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This change can be better explained by structural drivers that replaced traditional left-right cleavages by new cultural and social cleavages, also experienced in other liberal democracies. The consolidation of these new cleavages brings new opportunities to liberal centrist movements but poses serious threats to the traditional social-democratic left in its relation to the working classes. Additionally, this is a favourable political battleground for the far-right electoral growth.","PeriodicalId":351727,"journal":{"name":"Relações Internacionais","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115312425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article analysis the strategies of producers and recipients of vaccines in the Atlantic space. It concludes that Covid-19 has reinforced previous trends, regarding regional cooperation and global geopolitical competition. In that vein, the Atlantic space has been a laboratory of both cooperation and competition initiatives among vaccine producers and recipient countries. Although material interests have been a major driver in shaping preferences and strategies, this article suggests that symbolic and normative factors also contributed to the configuration of vaccine diplomacies of producers and recipients.","PeriodicalId":351727,"journal":{"name":"Relações Internacionais","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126786742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The anti-environmentalist and anti-indigenist administration of President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) partly dismantled environmental governance. The Amazon and its more-than-human populations were severely hit by Bolsonaro’s predatory agenda, which supported and legitimized the interests of the anti-conservationist forces within economic sectors such as agribusiness and mining, and fueled organized crime and violence in the region. This paper provides an overview and analysis of Amazonian politics and policy during this period, and discusses the importance of, and possibilities for, a transformative approach to the governance of the region.","PeriodicalId":351727,"journal":{"name":"Relações Internacionais","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126905080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It does so on a global scale, while maintaining the focus of analysis on the European reality and with regard to the Portuguese case. Analyzing the present and identifying the factors that can be crucial and bearers of stability or change is a fundamental step in knowing how to optimize resources and make strategic and sustainable options for the future, namely with regard to Portugal and its place in the context of apparent disorder in which we live. The pandemic only accelerated some changing trends that were looming on the horizon of the international system and, with it and after it, we moved from the VUCA world to the BANI world.","PeriodicalId":351727,"journal":{"name":"Relações Internacionais","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129756900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such crisis corresponds to the recent mass movement of displaced persons from the Ukraine war, following the Russian invasion of February 2022. The European Union’s response was unprecedented, having resorted, for the first time in history, to a European instrument that had been adopted more than twenty years ago: the Temporary Protection Directive. However, it is important to critically analyse this solution, and question why it was not adopted in previous cases of massive influx of people to the European Union.","PeriodicalId":351727,"journal":{"name":"Relações Internacionais","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116188508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
