Critical discourse analysis used in this research is a method that allows to detect such hidden meanings of societal agreements and interpretations encoded in texts. To exemplify how the roles of different parties are construed in traffic news, were analysed 26 police reports about traffic accidents that happened on crossroads in October and November 2013. To find out how such framing influences readers in interpreting the text, were questioned 104 respondents. The text analysis showed that traffic news stories are being framed through the driver’s viewpoint and attention is drawn to the pedestrian’s mistakes (lack of a reflector, dark clothing). Traffic reports are phrased in such a way that accidents happen, their active participants are cars which hit pedestrians and pedestrians who are hit by cars. The diachronic analysis is based on the media texts of the 1890s–1990s stored in the Corpus of Standard Estonian, while the synchronic analysis applies to texts found in Delfi.ee. The results highlight the main media discourses dealing with giftedness, the relevant terms and expressions, and the social relations and meanings brought up in the media in connection with the topic. Opilastega labi viidud poolstruktureeritud ruhmaintervjuud toovad riigikeele oppe senistesse diskussioonidesse keeleoppija, st 15–16-aastase vene koolinoore haale. Ainestiku diskursiivne analuus naitab, et koolinoorte hoiakutes riigikeele oppimise ja oskuse suhtes tousevad esile arusaamad eesti keele vaiksusest, piiratud kasutusvoimalused lahikeskkonnas, eri keelte roll tooturul, aga ka opilaste rahvuslik ja keeleline enesemaaratlemine. Uhe pohitulemusena voib valja tuua, et 9. klassi koolinoore silmis on eesti keelel peamiselt vaid instrumentaalne vaartus, st keelt nahakse vahendina eneseteostuse saavutamisel. Erinevalt eesti keelest on neid kaht keelevarianti voorkeelses teaduskirjanduses nimetatud mitme eri terminiga, eesti keeles on piirdutud uksnes lastekeele , hoidjakeele ja lapsele suunatud konega , mis aga ei anna laste- ja hoidjakeeleuurijatele piisavat hulka vajalikke ja tapseid toovahendeid. Terminite ja nende moistesisu paljude tolgenduste tottu on praeguseks kujunenud vajadus maarata kindlaks lapsele suunatud kone eri kasutusjuhud, kuna eri vanuses ja eri lahedusastmes olevate lastega raagitakse isemoodi. Eesti vat -morfeemi ( ole-vat ) kohta on arvatud, et see keeleuksus voib kanda kaht tahendust: nii evidentsiaalset kui ka episteemilis-modaalset. Uurisime selles artiklis, kuivord tolgendati vat -morfeemi episteemilise modaalina. Tapsemalt selgitasime eesti laste kaitumiskatsetega, mis on evidentsiaalide olemuses sellist, et nad on seotud episteemilise modaalsusega. Katsetest selgus, et evidentsiaalse markerina omandatakse vat -morfeem enne uheksandat eluaastat. It is hypothesized that morphonotactic clusters will be better retained during production than phonotactic clusters due to the function fulfilled by a morpheme. The study is based on experimental data collected from 60 Lithuanian TD children and 11 Lithuanian SLI children. This study explores the impact of morphology on the acquisition of phonotactics. The findings suggest that TD children process morphonotactic clusters more accurately than phonotactic clusters because morphonotactic clusters have the function of co-signalling the existence of a morphological rule. The written texts were then rated as being at levels from A2 to C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The data were collected by computer keystroke logging and analysed based on the concept of a ‘micro-context’. Micro-contexts were analysed according to their frequency and duration and were compared across proficiency levels. The results show that writing in the L2 is not a smooth process. The longest transitions in micro-contexts reveal that the most cognitive effort is made between paragraphs and sentences and when deletions are involved. The aim was to find out whether young adults whose first language (L1) is Estonian speak L2 English with less accent than older speakers of L1 Estonian. Prior studies have claimed that more exposure to the target language lessens the effect of L1 interference (internal factors) (e.g. Piske et al. 2001, Munoz, Llanes 2014). An apparent-time study was imple- mented in order to test whether a change in learner setting (i.e. limited exposure to the target language vs. abundant exposure) shows any evidence which can be explained by such external factors. Data was elicited from the speech samples of 97 speakers of L1 Estonian and L1 interference effects were analysed sound by sound. The results show that the younger generation displays less L1 Estonian interference than the older generation. Eesmargiks on maarata, missuguseid dialoogiakte ja missuguseid suhtlusstrateegiaid kasutavad dialoogis osalejad ning missugustest struktuuriosadest dialoogid koosnevad, s.o labi viia pragmaatilist analuusi. Selleks, et lihtsustada dialoogide pragmaatilist analuusi, arendame tarkvara, mis voimaldab tuvastada ja margendada dialoogi tekstis dialoogiakte, suhtlusstrateegiaid ja dialoogi struktuuriosi (sh alamdialooge). Dialoogiaktide tuvastamiseks rakendame andmepohist meetodit, samas suhtlusstrateegiate ja dialoogi struktuuri maaramine pohineb reeglitel. Tarkvara kasutavad lingvistid dialoogide uurimisel, mille kaugem eesmark on dialoogsusteemi arendamine, mis suhtleks kasutajaga loomulikus keeles, jargides inimestevahelise suhtluse norme. Uhendverbide aratundmine on vajalik lause tapsemaks suntaktiliseks analuusiks, sest lause osaliste suntaktilised funktsioonid, semantilised rollid ja nende keelendamine soltub sellest, milline on lause keskmeks olev predikaatverb, sh sellest, kas predikaatverb on lihtverb voi uhendverb. Uhendverbide tuvastamineks rakendatakse kahte strateegiat: leksikonipohist ja reeglipohist. Viimane tahendab seda, et osa korraparaseid produktiivselt kombineeruvaid uhendverbe pannakse kokku reeglite abil. Artiklis kirjeldatakse kahte eksperimenti: esialgse ja taiustatud uhendverbide tuvastamise kaiku. Taiustatud susteemi tulemus on paris hea, saavutades saagise 97,4% ja tapsuse 96,6%.
