The task is important in organizing information in large collections of news articles, as extracted coreferring event mentions can provide the user with an overview of the events discussed in articles, and can also provide a glimpse into the factual data related to the events. In this article, we survey previous approaches to automatic event analysis, discuss theoretical considerations related to event coreference detection and also outline a motivation for experimenting with event coreference detection in the context of limited linguistic resources. {"title":"Factorial structure of SILL revisited: adaptation of SILL for Estonian EFL learners","authors":"K. Saks, Ä. Leijen, Kandela Õun, Karin Täht","doi":"10.5128/356","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5128/356","url":null,"abstract":"DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5128/ERYa11.15 The present study aims to contribute to the understanding of the taxonomy of language learning strategies (Oxford 1990: 14–22) and its measuring instrument, the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL), through the adaptation process of the Estonian version. The translated version of the SILL was pilot-tested with a sample of 337 tertiary students. Cronbach’s alpha (0.91) reveals an acceptable reliability of the instrument. The t-test that was conducted in addition to descriptive analysis, to check for gender differences, did not reveal any significant differences. The results of the exploratory factor analysis did not support the 2- or 6-factor structures but the 9-factor analysis provides a good comparison to similar studies published in 1995 (Oxford, Burry-Stock 1995). This is achieved through a statistical analysis of collocations featuring in three coursebooks where the collocations found are analysed in terms of their type, frequency and usefulness index by studying them through an online language corpus (Collins Wordbanks Online). The coursebooks are systematically compared and contrasted relying upon the data gathered. Too pohieesmark on rakendada viit summeetrilist statistikut – t-skoori, vastastikuse informatsiooni vaartust, hii-ruut-statistikut, log-toepara funktsiooni ja minimaalset tundlikkust – erineva suurusega korpuste peal ja valja selgitada, milline meetod tootab eesti keele uhendverbide automaatsel tuvastamisel koige paremini. Teine suurem eesmark on katsetulemuste pohjal uurida, milline on korpuse suuruse moju statistikute toole. {"title":"Narrative production weakness in Russian dyslexics: Linguistic or procedural limitations?","authors":"A. Kornev, I. The experimental group consisted of 12 children (age 9–10) with dyslexia and the control group comprised 12 peers without any developmental disorders. The sample was counterbalanced from the perspective of narrative mode, story complexity, and task order. One of the classic methodologies for narrative analysis, i.e. story grammar, was extended in our study by a novel dynamic approach, enabling us to evaluate procedural features of narrative production. The results of our study highlight limitations in dyslexic narrative language underlined by two different causes. The first one can be defined as inefficiency in developing logical (temporal/causal) relationships between events; the other is difficulties in structuring an episode description. The high flexibility and dynamic changes in the episode structure in dyslexics anticipated the evidence that limitations in dyslexic narrative language are related to the deficit in procedural functions rather than to the primary language limitations; however, linguistic shortcomings in dyslexic narrative production still remain. Our experience with the dynamic approach to narrative assessment lends support to its value as a research tool. Sageli on aga nende kasutamise eelduseks usna pohjalikud teadmised geoinfosusteemidest voi monest konkreetsest programmist. Kaesoleva artikli eesmark on pakkuda uks lihtne ja kiire voimalus geograafiliste andmete esitamiseks, eeldamata kasutajalt suuri tehnilisi oskusi. Pakutud lahendus ja materjalid on vabavarana saadaval ning iga soovija voib neid oma vajadustele vastavalt kohandada voi selle baasilt valja tootada enda jaoks sobivad vahendid. Vaatluse all on kaks sama pere kooliealist last ja nende dialoogid molema vanemaga eraldi. Meetodina on kasutatud pikiuuringut (uht last on lindistatud regulaarselt vanuses 7–10 eluaastat, teist vanuses 10–14 eluaastat), mis holmab 16 tunni jagu audiomaterjali. Vanemate kone direktiivsed lausungid on liigitatud otsesteks ja kaudseteks kaskudeks, keeldudeks, koneleja soovitud tegevuse valjendusteks, palveteks, soovideks, soovitusteks, ettepanekuteks, hoiatusteks ja kultuurinormi edastusteks. On vorreldud eri tuupi direktiivide kasutamist ema ja isa kones ning vaadeldud direktiivide kasutamise dunaamikat laste kasvades ning suhtlusolukorriti. Kui osalejatel on uks ja sama eesmark, siis otsivad nad uhiselt argumente, mis naitaksid, mida positiivset toob kaasa tegevuse tegemine voi vastavalt mittetegemine ja kuidas korvaldada voimalikud takistused eesmargi saavutamisel. Kui osalejate eesmargid on teineteisele vastupidised, siis peab vahemalt uks neist argumentide ja vastuargumentide esiletoomise jarel oma algsest eesmargist loobuma. Artiklis arendatakse dialoogi mudelit, mille koosseisu kuulub argumendi mudel. Tuuakse naiteid dialoogikorpuse analuusist, et anda esialgne hinnang mudeli sobivusele inimestevaheliste argumenteerimisdialoogide analuusimiseks. Kasitleme korpuse kui leksikograafilise info allika potentsiaali ning analuusime, kuidas saab leksikograafilisi andmebaase pool- ja taisautomaatselt genereerida. Vaatleme, mil maaral on uusi tehnoloogilisi lahendusi voimalik rakendada Eesti oppeleksikograafias, tapsemalt eesti keele kollokatsioonisonastiku (KOLS) koostamisel. KOLS on esimene eestikeelne sonastik, kus rakendatakse andmebaasi automaatset genereerimist nii marksonastiku kui ka sonaartikli sisu (kollokatiivse info ja naitelausete) tasandil. Eesmark on selgitada, kas ja kuidas eesti- ja soomekeelsed keelekasutajad moistavad oma emakeele pohjal lahedast sugulaskeelt ilma sihtkeele oppimis- ja kasutuskogemuseta ning mille poolest erineb uksiksonade moistmine tervikteksti moistmisest. Moistmistestide vastuste ja osalejate eneserefleksiooni analuusi keskmes on kahe sihtkeele moistmise voimalik summeetria ning moistmisprotsessi mojutavad tegurid. Tulemuste pohjal osutusid eestikeelsed keelekasutajad edukamaks uksiksonatestis, eriti eesti ja soome keeles samatahenduslike kirjapildilt sarnaste sonade ning laen- ja voorsonade moistmisel, soomekeelsed keelekasutajad tervikteksti moistmisel. Molema sihtkeele moistmisel on otsustav keeltevahelise sarnasuse tunnetamine: toetutakse esmajoones eesti ja soome, aga ka muude varem opitud keelte ja sihtkeele sarnasusele, seostades seda metalingvistiliste ja uldteadmistega ning kontrollides oletusi lause-, loigu- ja tekstikontekstis. Kontekst toimib omalaadse filtrina, mis selekteerib keelekasutaja oletusi neid aktsepteerides voi tagasi lukates.
