Despite its relevance, we do not have studies to understand how it is manifesting in our country. Therefore, our objective was to describe the characteristics and physical deconditioning of Long COVID patients in a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) outpatient service in Peru.</div></div><div><h3>Materials and methods</h3><div>Retrospective cohort of Long COVID patients treated by PM&R at EsSalud between July 2 and October 27, 2021. We reviewed the medical records and extracted the variables of interest.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>We included 104 patients (median age: 61<!--> <!-->years, male: 62.5%). 99% had adequate cognitive function, 76% reported comorbidities, 85.6% reported mild or no functional limitation, 91.4% reported independence or mild dependence for basic activities of daily living, and 51% underwent post-discharge physiotherapy. The most frequent signs or symptoms were pain, cough, arrhythmia, and muscle weakness. 58% had reduced aerobic power, 45.6% had reduced flexibility, 22.5% had reduced anaerobic power, and 6.2% had reduced balance. The reduction in aerobic power and balance was statistically significant in those over 60<!--> <!-->years of age.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>Physical deconditioning was a frequent complication in Long COVID patients, especially in those assessed for aerobic power and flexibility. Simulation provides a controlled environment where students can practice skills in a realistic case setting. However, there is a lack of research on the opinions and experiences of physiotherapy students undergoing simulation-based training. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness and student satisfaction after a simulation focused on chronic pain.</div></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><div>A mixed-methods approach was employed to investigate the effectiveness of simulation-based learning with a biopsychosocial approach in the context of chronic pain patients in physiotherapy.</div></div><div><h3>Participants</h3><div>The study included 66 students who participated in two simulation experiences. The students completed a questionnaire consisting of open-ended questions and Likert-scale responses. We aimed to analyse the presence of specific CRP contents and subjects in the curricula of the Spanish Physiotherapy bachelor's degree programs.</div></div><div><h3>Material and methods</h3><div>A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2020 to September 2021. The contents of the programs for the 2020-21 course of the Degrees in Physiotherapy were analyzed, using a syllabus or list of contents (48 items) that was created and validated by CRP experts from all over the national territory, using the Delphi method. Chi-squared test was applied to compare the distribution of items and specific CRP subjects, according to their presence in the teaching programs and by universities and autonomous communities.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>A total of 252 subjects containing syllabus items were selected, corresponding to 56 universities (36 public). No significant differences were found in the distribution of the items in the teaching plans (p<!--> <!-->>0.05), nor in their distribution in public and private universities (p<!--> <!-->>0.05). Of the total subjects, 21.8% were specific to CRP, compared to the remaining 78.2% of non-specific subjects. The development of new technologies and the growth of the number of people with Internet access open new options to the prescription of exercise therapy. The aim of this study is to analyze qualitatively how telerehabilitation is experienced from the perspective of two different types of users: (1) 4th year students of the Degree in Physiotherapy (future professionals), and (2) patients.</div></div><div><h3>Materials and methods</h3><div>Qualitative description research. One focus group for user type was registered. Data were coded and compared, and two researchers independently analyzed the data using a thematic analysis.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>The concept of telerehabilitation versus rehabilitation, the use of the interface (navigating the platform), and the strengths and points to be improved on the platform were the main themes that emerged. These detail users’ opinions and interaction with telerehabilitation and what options telerehabilitation offers.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>The study has provided information about the opinion of users of a remote exercise therapy web platform. Vargas , A. von Oetinger","doi":"10.1016/j.ft.2024.07.002","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.ft.2024.07.002","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objectives</h3><p>The aim of this research is to explore the influence of different exercise protocols on carbohydrate oxidation.</p></div><div><h3>Design</h3><p>Uncontrolled experimental study.</p></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><p>They recruited ten inactive male subjects, 30–39 years old, with elevated body mass index (BMI). Each participant was evaluated in four separate sessions. First session consisted in determining peak aerobic power (<em>p</em>AP), following sessions participants realized three equivalent exercise protocols; each one consisted of three bouts of 15-min exercise separated by 5<!--> <!-->min. Constant intensity protocol (CIP) included exercise at 55% of <em>p</em>AP, while the other (increasing and decreasing) consisted in exercise at 40%, 55% and 70% of <em>p</em>AP in an increasing or decreasing order respectively.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>IIP (increasing intensity protocol) causes a progressive increase in carbohydrate oxidation comparative to DIP (decreasing intensity protocol and CIP protocols (<em>p</em> <!-->≤<!--> <!-->0.01). In the third period of protocol IIP oxidized significantly more carbohydrate than the other two.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>Carbohydrate oxidation in exercises at intervals of different intensity depends on the order of these periods, being greater when performed increasingly, being more useful for sedentary subjects with insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus. The competencies of physical therapists working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) can vary depending on the geographical region. Currently, Mexico lacks a standardized framework for defining the competencies of physical therapists working in the ICU. The objective of this study is to establish minimum standards for clinical practice among physical therapists in the ICU in Mexico.</p></div><div><h3>Material and methods</h3><p>An expert consensus was achieved using a Delphi technique, involving three rounds of electronic questionnaire-based inquiries.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>A total of 41 experts participated in the first two rounds, and 38 in the third round. Pérez Herrera","doi":"10.1016/j.ft.2024.03.002","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.ft.2024.03.002","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Introduction</h3><p>The increasing use of mobile devices among students has led to a rise in the prevalence of text neck syndrome, characterized by pain and tension in the neck.</p></div><div><h3>Objective</h3><p>Assessing the positive impact of a tele-rehabilitation program specifically designed to mitigate the effects of text neck syndrome in university students during the COVID-19 pandemic.</p></div><div><h3>Materials and methods</h3><p>A quasi-experimental study was conducted in which a tele-rehabilitation program was designed, implemented, and evaluated to reduce neck pain in university students with text neck syndrome. The program included stretching and strengthening exercises, lasting for four weeks through the specialized platform Physiotec®. Twenty-four individuals with a medical diagnosis of text neck syndrome participated, and variables such as pain, generic and cervical disability, as well as range of motion, were analyzed.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>The results indicated significant improvements in pain symptoms, with a notable shift towards the mild pain category, while cases of moderate to severe pain decreased.
