Abstract

Introduction

Job satisfaction is an indicator of the well-being and quality of life of workers. The evaluation of levels of job satisfaction is of vital importance both for the workers themselves and for the companies in which they work. The objective of this study is to know the job satisfaction of physiotherapists who work in the public sphere of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands in addition to analyzing the relationship of job satisfaction with other social and work variables.

Methods

A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out. Physiotherapists were included who will provide their care in the public sector of the community. The sociodemographic variables and the General Satisfaction Scale were recognized. A correlational analysis was carried out between the variables.

Results

Forty-two physical therapists responded to the survey. The average age of the population was 41.17 ± 10.03 years and 61.90% were women. The average score of general satisfaction with their work was 65.64 ± 15.51 points out of a total of 105. Significant differences were found between permanent and temporary staff (P = .028).

Conclusions

Most physiotherapists working in the SCS have medium-high levels of job satisfaction. These results should serve the different management levels to make decisions regarding the employment situation and sociodemographic situation of physiotherapists in the autonomous community of the Canary Islands.
