Three vocabulary component points assessed are picture identification, word meaning and spelling. Before getting treatment in the form of watching English animated films, students did 30 pre-test questions. After watching the film students were also asked to work on post-test questions with the same number and types of questions. In this study, the design used was the One-Group Pre-test Post-test Design method. This research was conducted at SMK Karya Bhakti Brebes, there were 23 subjects. From the results of the T-Test Picture Identification, we can see that the results of the t count (tcount)> ttable or 3,766> 1,713. This shows that the initial hypothesis is accepted or it can be said that the use of the animated film method is effective to increase students' vocabulary, especially in picture identification. For the results of the T-test Word Meaning, namely t count (tcount)> ttable or 2,760 > 1,713 so it can be concluded that animated films are effective for increasing students' vocabulary. And for the results of the T-Test Spelling the value of t count (tcount) < ttable or 0.568 < 1.713, indicates that the learning method using animated films is less effective.","PeriodicalId":34871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research on English and Language Learning","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77669303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is believed that morphological awareness contributes to enhance students' performances by analyzing the word structures. Students are required to improve their skills in manipulating and interpreting complex words presented in a text. This study then, investigates the students’ level of morphological awareness and its relationship with their reading comprehension. It was carried out with a group of 55 second-grade EFL students from one of Gresik's senior high schools in East Java. The data were collected through reading comprehension test and morphological awareness test. The results indicates that students’ level of morphological awareness are varied (5 students = Excellent, 21 students = Good, 18 students = Mediocre, 10 students = Poor, and 1 student = Very Poor). This study explores the use of novels, a genre of authentic text with interesting and inspirational contents, to help students understand pragmatics and thorough description of the turn-takings and their components in the novels. The method used is turn-taking analysis with two data taken, namely conversations for turn-taking features and narration by the author as turn constructional units. From the data collected, this research uses the conversation analysis method that was initiated by Sack, Schegolff, and Jefferson. The turn-taking feature found in this study is turn-taking in groups of students or when they listen to lectures from the teacher. The narrative section from the writer was used to show how the gaps, overlapping, intonation, or actions of the characters are. This part gave a big limitation to explore because it depends on what the writer wrote in narration. The genre of this novel also will influence what the researcher will find and English students will learn in pragmatics.","PeriodicalId":34871,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research on English and Language Learning","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81327888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
