This growing awareness of the existing different communities is one of the reasons that education assign a significant role in shaping the life model based on the interaction of individuals and communities, and entire societies - without destructive conflicts of national, ethnic, religious or cultural. The main foundations would be tolerance for attitudes and customs, respect for language, traditions, religions of all students, the mutual enrichment through exchange of values, instilling the principles of peaceful existence and cooperation in social and cultural opposition to any form of discrimination, and - apart from learning about their own history and culture - getting to know the values of other cultures. Functioning in a culturally diverse environment makes it assume a distinctive lifestyle, behavior and conduct, drawing from more than one source of culture, assimilating more or less consciously different values, directly experiencing other cultures and entering into direct interaction with its representatives. To do this, develop the concept of integral education and pedagogy open, inspired, among others, Christianity. Religious Education is to fill an important humanizing role. Thus, they form the horizon for reading cultural texts for education. They are, for example: borderlands, borders, journey, road, returns, childhood, imagination and body. Gaining such experiences helps to shape self-knowledge and to build narrative identity. We also analyze the role that different cultures play for the socialization of a young person. The following concepts constitute the theoretical axis of our article: cultural pattern, habitus, intergenerational transmission, communicative knowledge, conjunctive knowledge and multiculturalism. We supplement our consideration of them with data from interviews that were conducted in a community of young adults of Jewish origin. We refer primarily to such life experiences as: sources of knowledge about oneself and Jewish culture, intergenerational transmission, the sense of one’s own difference, giving meaning to one’s origin, the need for community, intellectualism and mysticism, and constructing one’s own identity. At the same time, they are criticized due to their content and their influence on human actions and social relations. A number of social researchers refer to the submission of media to popular culture and entertainment, promoting of immaturity of the recipients and in consequences withdrawn from the public sphere. On the other hand, the popular culture is consider as a factor important for development of the human capital, the bonding social capital, individuals identity and society’s cohesion. The aim of this paper is to analyse the relationship between popular culture and the civic engagement of youth. First, the basic assumptions of popular culture- civic engagement relations are introduced. The second section is based on the chosen findings of author’s pilot study into the field of The youth identity formation in the mobile society era (N=92). The mutual associations between the popular culture consumption of university students and their level of civic engagement are analysed. The research results show statistical significance of the positive relationship in the sample between analysed factors. The higher is level of students’ cultural participation and media consumption, the higher is level of their civic engagement. The remedy for this problem Aldona Pobojewska sees in the humanities, more precisely – in philosophy. What really matters is philosophy-ing understood as a peculiar paradigm – educationally common, the standard model of which are workshops on philosophical thoughts. The author puts the currently dominant pop culture, that is too flexible and dynamic, on the opposite site to the high culture. In the postmodernity the pop culture standards determine the character of education space. Young people are looking mostly for enjoyment in the pop culture, what influences directly and indirectly the level of education. The result of this phenomenon is ongoing decrease of the level of schooling (education), what comes to the pauperization of the idea of an university. The communication is very important in the areas of culture and education. The most alarming is that the classical communication medium – vocal word, does not have enough influence to both very important processes: education and upbringing. Currently the most important is media coverage. The system of concepts necessary for this embedding is presented in the following order: culture – art – participation in culture (art) – introduction to participation in culture (art). In the adopted perspective, delineating the boundaries between “art”, “bad art”, “anti-art”, “kitsch” is not very attractive. This problem is relieved of unnecessary tensions. The key here is the way of understanding the concept of culture, which implies an appropriate way of understanding art and, consequently, participation in and introduction to culture (art) (which is the primary function of education).
