Since its creation, the UNED has fostered the integration of new tools and the improvement of the existing ones into learning/teaching/training. Therefore, once ICTs burst into our society, the use of ICT, both as a support to the processes of educational management and administration and the teaching and learning activities, turned into a primary aim for UNED. These efforts have promoted the development of new tools allowing the expansion of the services offered in order to strengthen the teaching and learning processes. One of these tools has been remote labs. UNED’s experience in e-learning and distance learning environments has assimilated easily these practical tools and valued them.","PeriodicalId":346387,"journal":{"name":"2021 International e-Engineering Education Services Conference (e-Engineering)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130742734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These findings fit in the Erasmus+ project e-Learning InnoVative Engineering Solutions (e-LIVES). This project fosters the integration of e-learning best practices and methodologies in the South Mediterranean countries of Algeria, Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia. This approach is needed due to the recent rise in the number of engineering students in the higher education system in these countries. Considering the engineering education field, innovations are needed to realize remote laboratory sessions. The laboratory sessions needed to be further developed, secured and disseminated to reach sustainable ownership. To assess the quality of the e-engineering programs, feedback from all stakeholders is mandatory. The group of stakeholders consists of students, teachers and trainees of the e-engineering program implementation workshops and trainings. Feedback is obtained by satisfaction questionnaires. The student questionnaire mainly covers two factors: the didactical and pedagogical quality and the functional quality. The teacher questionnaire covered one factor: the functional quality. The trainee questionnaire perspective covered two factors: the remote practical work training quality and the online teaching unit training quality.","PeriodicalId":346387,"journal":{"name":"2021 International e-Engineering Education Services Conference (e-Engineering)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115152186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many higher education institutions are leveraging this opportunity and are strongly investing in e-Learning systems offering courses in various disciplines. Engineering courses are challenging on their own, but to teach and engage e-learners’ in first year cohorts requires creativity and innovation from the teaching teams and providers. This paper aims to evaluate the success and learning quality by considering the implementations of new technologies available, as well as the students’ knowledge gain and professional qualification via online courses. The paper evaluates the success of e-Learning for various engineering units at the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) by analyzing core units offered in EIT Bachelor of Engineering programs both online and on-campus. Grades from past two years of the online and on-campus cohorts were used. The main findings indicate stronger commitment from the online students as compared to the on-campus students. Furthermore, it was observed that over time with greater experience, lecturers were able to engage and motivate students more effectively.","PeriodicalId":346387,"journal":{"name":"2021 International e-Engineering Education Services Conference (e-Engineering)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130137767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fundamental CT concepts include abstraction, algorithm design, decomposition, pattern recognition, and data representation or generalization. CT assessment is required to improve the understanding of the cognitive abilities and to relate them in related areas, such as introductory programming in computer science. Assessing computational thinking skills however is a challenging issue since it measures latent variables that cannot be directly observed. In addition, according to psychometrics, appropriate test requires a validation process before it can be effectively used as a measuring instrument. Thus, high quality tools for measuring student learning in Introductory Programming have been under-developed and under-researched. The objective of this work is to determine the psychometric properties (item validity, reliability, discrimination, difficulty, and distractors) of the developed multiple-choice questions of computational thinking in introductory programming by exploring classical test theory and item response theory which has not been deeply investigated by previous studies. The analysis results reveal that most of items are valid and the items are generally adequate reliable. In spite of the fact that some items are suggested to be revised since the item discrimination values, the distribution of difficulties, and distractor points are less than the expected threshold.","PeriodicalId":346387,"journal":{"name":"2021 International e-Engineering Education Services Conference (e-Engineering)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131484440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
