Borić, Jelena Hadžić","doi":"10.32914/MCPR.12.1.5","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.32914/MCPR.12.1.5","url":null,"abstract":"The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many unusual and unexpected situations in all areas of life, including language, to which almost every Croatian citizen has been exposed. This social paradigm shift exemplifies the fact that context changes the meaning of a language utterance. In other words, ordinary semantics aside, new semantic meanings have come up which haven’t existed before the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. The context by which we decipher the meaning is the key for the pragma-linguistic content analysis explored in this paper. Its purpose is to research the types of conversational maxims which are broken in humoristic utterances. The content consists of examples collected in March 2021 from a pool of interpersonal and group communication sources. Theory discussion is conducted by diachronic and synchrony analysis of elements of visual communication in digital environment and theory of public action. The main goal is to establish new communicative paradigm of media communication which includes the evaluation of digital skills, media literacy and the characteristics of the new hybrid dig-ital society. Obitelj i slobodno vrijeme su ljudima subjektivno bliži.\u0000K tomu treba dodati da ljudima sa niskim stupnjem obrazovanja teško pada da prema kompleksnim društvenim situacijama i prema kompleksnoj društvenoj problematici nađu osobni odnos, što bi u njima probudilo interes za traženje i primanje informacija. Da bi se aktivirao odnos prema informacijama bilo bi, pored ostalog, neophodno teorijski i praktički istražiti fenomen aktivnog traženja i prihvaćanja informacija.\u0000Traženje informacija je stalno povezano sa subjektivno viđenim i aktualno doživljenim događajima i problemima, koji tretiraju masovni mediji te sa svrsishodnošću informacija. Za masovne medije je dakle zadatak od prvorazrednog značaja, da različitim socijalnim skupinama društvene probleme predstave kao subjektivne probleme. U odnosu na teme masovnih medija, osobe sa višim stupnjem obrazovanja imaju prednost jer je njihovo opće znanje ujedno i predznanje odnosno predinformiranost. Takve osobe će lakše prihvatiti ponuđenu temu. Plenković, Slobodan Hadžić, Mladen Kučiš","doi":"10.32914/mcpr.11.1.2","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.32914/mcpr.11.1.2","url":null,"abstract":"The paper deals with exploratory, political and communication studies of the dialectics of media power or powerlessness in the process of electoral civic behavior on the example of the Croatian parliamentary elections in 2003. The survey covers time limits from September 1 to November 30, 2003. The chosen methodology and the applied research methods are in line with contemporary research trends applied in similar media and electoral and political campaign studies. The authors point to all the complexity of studying this issue, which is catching the attention of recent communication and political science publics. The initial research hypothesis fully confirmed the predicted research results. An inductive-deductive analysis of media representation was also carried out in correlation with the financial resources spent on publicity and publicity campaigns. The results obtained show that there is no significant causal relationship between media representation and electoral civic behavior. In the final interpretation of the results obtained, it is evident that, prior to the election campaign, attitudes towards electoral preference of voters did not change significantly during the media's publicity and propaganda election civic exposure.
