The system frequency domain search speed is improved evidently. And TTFF (time to first fix) can be extremely reduced, with out to much extra hardware costs. As a result, the weak signal acquisition and fast acquisition could be achieved simultaneously. Through hardware testing the sensitivity of the system and the advantages of the new strategy in the search speed is validated.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127626322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In case the terminals cannot be equipped with antenna arrays, Distributed Space-Time Coding (DSTC) can be applied to virtual MIMO channel which is constructed by several single-antenna terminals. A novel way of searching relays for DSTC based on decentralized ad hoc networks is proposed in this paper. The major merit of the new scheme is that the scope of selecting the cooperative relay node is far beyond the SISO transmission range. Thus more opportunities for cooperation are provided, even when the network density is low or the traffic is heavy. As a result, the transmission range is greatly extended without reducing the QoS. Besides, corresponding MAC and routing protocols are presented. Simulation results show that as compared with using SISO, end-to-end throughput of the network increases by 103.9%, while end-to-end latency is reduced by 87.6%.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131240203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the increased capacity and extended coverage comes with a corresponding increase in contention and interference. These can cause a significant degradation in throughput unless an effective channel assignment scheme is employed. In an earlier work, we proposed a practical distributed channel assignment scheme for high density WLANs. The proposed minimum neighbour with extended Kalman filter estimator (MINEK) scheme maximizes throughput by selecting the channel with the minimum number of active neighbour nodes (nodes associated with interfering access points). The latter is estimated in-situ using an extended Kalman filter. In this paper, we present extensive performance evaluation of the MINEK scheme. Specifically, the scheme's performance is evaluated in terms of upper-bound performance, normalized density, non-saturated load, unequal load, fairness and scalability. Extensive packet-level simulations using OPNET have shown that the MINEK scheme not only provides significant throughput improvement when compared to other existing schemes but is also highly robust across various deployment scenarios.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128879076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Ad Hoc networks, the salvation character of this scheme improves the performance of the 802.11 MAC protocol. However, the IEEE802.11b with variable bit rate is widely used at present. Consequently, it is necessary to analyze the behavior of MASA in variable rate conditions. Based on the above idea, this paper proposes a new salvaging scheme called Relay Multi-rate MAC (RM-MAC), which is an integration of MASA and modified Receiver-Based AutoRate (RBAR). A two-dimensional markov model concerning this new scheme is established, and then simulation by NS2 is implemented. Both model analyzing and simulation results show that RM-MAC is superior to IEEE802.11 in aggregation throughput and average packet delay.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126701682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared to the two traditional multihop relaying schemes, non-cooperative multihop relaying and hop-based cooperative multihop relaying, the proposed transmission scheme is capable of reorganizing the delivery path if an outage happens in the transmission, thus adapting to the instantaneous channel condition and/or the frequently-changing network topology. The analytical results of end-to-end outage probabilities for the proposed transmission scheme and its two alternatives are derived and compared. Simulation results verify the accuracy of the analysis and show the effectiveness of the proposed transmission scheme in terms of reducing the end-to-end outage probability. This is especially desireable with Cognitive Radio, a field having an extensive theoretical background but where there is little in the way of practical equipment or systems which can be used to implement and demonstrate cognitive radio functionality. To overcome this deficiency, the Communications Research Centre has developed a platform which implements WiFi based cognitive radio networks and allows the study of such attributes as sensing, adaptation, and collaboration in a field environment. In this paper we discuss the operation of thisWiFi based cognitive radio technology, providing an overview of the components that led to its implementation, and detail how this technology is being used to gather sensed information in a WiFi interference environment. According to different thresholds of the average SNR of subchannels, the algorithm dynamically allocates the source coding parameters of video information and the channel coding parameters of RCPT, which realizes unequal error protection (UEP) for the video information of different importance. Through the bit and power allocation based on MQAM modulation and the subspace allocation based on beamforming technology for different subcarriers, it also makes full use of space-frequency domain resources. Our previous study showed that our proposed multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-based collision mitigation scheme is very efficient for uplink throughput performance. However, for infrastructure-based WLANs, there still exists a downlink and uplink collision problem, since the multi-user MIMO-based collision mitigation scheme only can partially resolve uplink collisions. In order to mitigate this kind of collision, in this paper, we propose a relay-assisted downlink and uplink collision mitigation scheme and analyze the corresponding performance. Moreover, when it comes to the coexistence of the uplink and downlink traffic in WLANs, due to a random access nature of the WLAN systems, the access point (AP) may have less channel access opportunities than stations(STAs). Thus, we need to take into account a downlink and uplink throughput balancing problem. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme yields better throughput performance than the conventional multi-user MIMO-based collision mitigation scheme, especially when we consider the uplink and downink throughput balancing.","PeriodicalId":339961,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131572068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
